Govt clears acquisition proposals for military goods worth ₹1.05 lakh crore

The Ministry of Defence's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Thursday, 3 July 2025, cleared capital acquisition proposals worth nearly ₹ 1.05 lakh crore as the nation's military seeks to onboard new defence equipment. As per the official release, the 10 capital acquisition proposals are set to be carried out through indigenous sourcing from Indian companies. 'Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, on July 03, 2025, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to approx. ₹ 1.05 lakh crore through indigenous sourcing,' said the Ministry of Defence in its official statement. The Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) or the need for these proposals is for defence equipment like the procurement of Armoured Recovery Vehicles, an Electronic Warfare System, an Integrated Common Inventory Management System for the Tri-Services, and Surface-to-Air Missiles. 'These procurements will provide higher mobility, effective air defence, better supply chain management and augment the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces,' said the Ministry of Defence in the official statement. The Defence Ministry also cleared the AoNs for the procurement of Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mount and Submersible Autonomous Vessels, as the government seeks to mitigate the potential risks posed to the Naval and Merchant Vessels of India. 'To provide further impetus to indigenous design and development, AoNs were accorded under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category,' said the ministry. The Ministry of Defence in June 2025 was planning to review a ₹ 30,000 crore proposal to procure three regiments of the indigenous Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QR-SAM) system for the Indian Army, according to Mint's earlier report. On 28 March 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the biggest-ever deal to buy 156 Light Combat Helicopters worth over ₹ 62,000 crore for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

Bengaluru: Electricity meter name transfer soon to go online for a hassle-free experience

Soon, consumers of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) will be able to easily transfer the ownership of electricity meters to their names without much hassle. Bescom, in association with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), is integrating an 'automatic name change trigger' on its online portal, which will facilitate the transfer based on the property ID number. Lakhs of electricity consumers, specifically those in apartments, have long struggled with the name transfer of electricity meters from builders/landowners to the owners of individual apartment units. Initially, when apartments are built, the electricity meters are provided under the name of the builders or landowners. While for many years, consumers remained unaware of the fact that they should eventually transfer the meters to their name, the introduction of the Gruha Jyothi Scheme and now BBMP's E-Khata has prompted them to go ahead with the process. 'We are getting many requests; some subdivisions are getting five applications a day for transfer of names after E-Khata has been made mandatory. Hence, the managing director decided to set up a new system on our Web Self Service (WSS) portal ( to transfer names in a hassle-free manner,' said a senior Bescom official. They further said that the mechanism will work in such a way that after entering the consumer's property ID on the Bescom portal, it will automatically transfer the electricity meter to their name. 'The system is under development, and we are waiting for some communication from BBMP. Once everything falls into place, the trigger system will be functional,' the official said. 'Unaware' For now, although an online system exists for consumers to use for name transfer, most of them are either unaware of it or do not use it, as it requires the uploading of multiple documents. Many of them also end up paying bribes either to middlemen/agents or even junior officials in sub-division offices to get names transferred. 'My electricity meter was under the name of the builder, and I wanted to transfer it to my name when I was getting my E-Khata done. I found out from other residents in my apartment complex that going to the subdivision office and getting the name changed will take multiple visits. As a working professional, I can't go many times. I tried doing it online, but I was not sure which portal I was supposed to use. I ended up paying ₹5,000 to an agent who had helped many others in my apartment, to get the name transferred,' explained Kamalesh Sharma, a resident of an apartment complex in Yelahanka. Commenting on the lack of awareness about the process, Vikram Rai, secretary, Bangalore Apartment Federation (BAF), said, 'Many do not even know that the meter is not in their names. It is necessary to create awareness and break the knowledge gap regarding this. We have released a white paper that details all the steps to avail this transfer.' He also said that resident welfare associations (RWA) often face challenges while getting the name transfer for common area meters, too. 'Even here, they are not aware that they should get the name changed until they go for rooftop solar installations,' he said.

C-DOT to generate revenue of Rs 1,000 crore this fiscal: Mos Telecom

State-owned telecom research organisation C-DOT is likely to generate Rs 1,000 crore revenue in the current fiscal, Minister of State for Telecom Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said on Thursday. While speaking on the launch of the core 5G router by C-DOT, the minister said growth in C-DOT revenue reflects on its commercial relevance and technology leadership. "C-DoT's projected revenue of around Rs 1,000 crore this year, alongside a government grant of Rs 400 crore, is a strong testament to its growing commercial relevance and technological leadership. It demonstrates how a public R&D institution can evolve into a self-sustaining engine of innovation -- delivering cutting-edge indigenous solutions while upholding national priorities in telecom security and digital inclusion," Pemmasani said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: 1 simple trick to get all TV channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) is expected to get a grant of around Rs 400 crore from the Centre, which will be in addition to the Rs 1,000 crore revenue that the organisation will generate from technology agreements. The organisation's revenue in 2024-25 was Rs 536 crore, excluding around Rs 500 crore grant from the government. Live Events Pemmasani lauded C-DOT's work on 4G technology that made India the 5th country globally to make its 4G network gear. The 5G core router developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) can support a data load of up to 25.6 terabits per second. During interaction with scientists and engineers at C-DOT, the minister advised them to focus on building solutions, not just products. In response to the question of why he joined politics despite his multi-crore business, the minister said he completed his medical education in India by paying a very nominal fee in a government college and always had a motive to serve the country. "I studied medicine here, I only paid Rs 15,000 for my entire medical school. It is kind of a government fee, but I never served the country. I always wanted to do something back to the country. That was the primary motive because taxpayers' money is what made me a doctor, and that gave me (the opportunity) to build something extraordinary. So, that deep gratitude is what brought me here," he added. He is India's richest Member of Parliament with a net worth of over Rs 5,700 crore. Pemmsani assured C-DOT engineers and scientists to provide all support to help them facilitate easy and timely procurement of items required for research.
