Sanjay Raut claims unity between Raj and Uddhav Thackeray needed to keep Mumbai a part of Maharashtra
In his weekly column Rok Thok in the Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamana, Raut also claimed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nothing to do with the fight for Maharashtra's unity and Marathi "asmita" (pride).
"The BJP's policy is to first loot Mumbai, then make Mumbai a union territory and play game for a separate Vidarbha and finish the existence of Maharashtra," he alleged.
Raut said people have not forgotten Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the past carrying placards with the message: 'Vidarbha is my only state', during agitations in Nagpur.
If the unity of Thackeray cousins and their leadership does not remain intact, then Mumbai will be swallowed by "Adani-Lodha" and one day it will not be part of Maharashtra, the Rajya Sabha member alleged.
In April, MNS leader Raj Thackeray sparked speculation about a potential political rapprochement with his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, noting their past differences were "trivial" and uniting for the greater good of "Marathi manoos" (Marathi people) is not a difficult task.
The buzz strengthened when Uddhav Thackeray said he was ready to put aside trivial fights provided that those working against Maharashtra's interests will not be entertained, a veiled reference to Raj hosting Shiv Sena head and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde at his residence.
On July 5, Uddhav Thackeray said he and his cousin Raj Thackeray have "come together to stay together", while sharing the political stage with the MNS chief for the first time in almost 20 years, after the BJP-led state government withdrew two GRs on the introduction of Hindi language for students from Class 1.
Raut claimed the coming together of cousins Raj and Uddhav on July 5 gave confidence to 'Marathi manoos'.
"This does not mean all issues of Marathi manoos have been resolved. The issues troubling the Marathi manoos remain as it is. Thackeray brothers came together against the imposition of Hindi but the political alliance (between the two parties) is yet to be announced. It is necessary that there is an alliance. Only then Maharashtra will get a new direction," he said.
If anyone has an illusion that Thackerays will succumb to any kind of pressure, then they are fools, he asserted.
Raut claimed the unity of Thackeray brothers has rattled the rulers in Delhi and in Maharashtra, a reference to the BJP.
CM Fadnavis heats up the political atmosphere by meeting Raj, the Sena (UBT) leader said, adding the MNS president will speak on this and clear the confusion.
Fadnavis and Raj Thackeray had met at a hotel in Mumbai last month.
Raut said 'Marathi manoos' must first fight a battle for Mumbai and Thane, an oblique reference to retaining power in the civic bodies of the two neighbouring cities the polls for which are likely to be held later this year.

Achieve target of enrolling 2.5 crore members in DMK in 30 days, says Stalin
The ruling DMK president, M.K. Stalin, on Thursday called upon the party's district secretaries to help achieve the target of enrolling 2.5 crore members in the party in 30 days. 'We have 30 days left. While numbers are important, we should also attach priority to conversing with the members of the household for at least 10 minutes during our public outreach programme,' he said while addressing the district secretaries meeting. He said the objective of 'Tamil Nadu under One Front' – the public outreach programme – was to explain to every family the injustice caused to Tamil Nadu by the BJP-led Union government. 'We should also explain to them the achievements of the DMK government and the need to protect our language, land and pride,' he said. Reiterating that the digital booth agents were an asset to the party, he said their service should be used beyond the 2026 Assembly election. On his X page, Mr. Stalin had posted about the enrolment of an entire family, except the head of the family, as members of the DMK. 'The membership should increase and they should represent the aspirations of Tamil Nadu,' he said.

Delhi women to get free bus travel via smart cards soon: CM Rekha Gupta
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced that her government would soon provide free bus travel cards to all women of the city with an aim to empower them with mobility. Saheli Smart Card, a personalised travel pass carrying the holder's name and photo, will facilitate free rides to women and transgender residents of Delhi aged 12 and above on all DTC and Cluster buses. Laying the foundation stone for a fully automated vehicle testing station (ATS) at the DTC's Nand Nagri Depot, the chief minister said, "This is a symbol of a safer, more transparent, and women-friendly Delhi." "Along with technological upgrades like the ATS, we are also focused on empowering women with mobility. Soon, every woman in Delhi will have access to free bus travel through smart travel cards," she said. The new testing facility, to be developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore, is aimed at enhancing road safety, transparency, and pollution control. Once commissioned, it is expected to digitally test 72,000 vehicles annually with no human intervention. Delhi has only one operational ATS in Jhuljhuli with a limited capacity. The new facility will increase testing capacity significantly, especially benefiting commercial vehicle owners. CM Gupta also announced the construction of another fully automated ATS at the DTC Tehkhand Depot in South-East Delhi. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said the initiative marks a major leap in Delhi's transport infrastructure and will help reduce long travel for vehicle owners seeking fitness certification. "We are combining technological advancement with accessibility and affordability. These centres will not only make Delhi roads safer but also generate Rs 3 crore annually for DTC," he said. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP-led Delhi government of dismantling key welfare schemes under the pretext of fighting corruption. The AAP's Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the BJP government was systematically shutting down pro-people initiatives like the Mohalla Clinics and the Pink Ticket scheme as part of its "anti-poor agenda".
