Tirupati Laddoos Now Available At Easy-To-Use Kiosks For Pilgrims

NDTV24-06-2025
Hyderabad:
The Tirupati laddoo that has a dedicated following of its own, even among those who may not identify themselves as devotees, is now available at kiosk machines set up at laddoos counters in Tirumala.
The pilgrim-friendly initiative is an innovation introduced recently by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. This facility allows pilgrims to conveniently pay for additional laddoos using UPI. After payment, a receipt is generated, which can be used to collect the extra laddoos.
The intention behind this innovative move by TTD is to improve pilgrims' overall experience by cutting down on lengthy waiting.
One of the biggest draws for anyone going to Tirumala for a darshan of Lord Venkateswara is the Tirupati laddoo. Even if it did not have a GI tag, devotees of the laddoo insist that it is so distinctive in flavour and texture that you can make out immediately if it did come out of the "potu", the place in Tirumala where laddoos are made.
Very often, pilgrims may not carry physical money with them when going to the temple complex, and digital payment makes it convenient. Through an easy-to-use interface, pilgrims can swiftly complete their 'laddoo purchases' by using the machines.
Here is a step-by-step version of the process for using the KIOSK machines for Laddoos:
Pilgrims will approach the KIOSK Machine installed near the Laddoo distribution counters.
Pilgrims will be presented with two options: one for those with a valid darshan ticket and another for those without a darshan ticket.
With Valid Darshan Ticket: Choose this option if you have a valid Darshan ticket. The system will verify the ticket details, and pilgrims can purchase up to 2 additional laddoos per person based on the number of people listed on the ticket.
Without Darshan Ticket: Choose this option if you do not have a Darshan ticket.
You can still purchase up to 2 additional laddoos by providing a valid Aadhaar number.
After selecting the appropriate option, the system will navigate to the payment page, where pilgrims can complete the transaction using UPI.
Pilgrims can collect the printed receipt and proceed to the laddoo counters to receive them.

PM Modi, Ghanaian President Mahama hold talks, decide to double trade in the next five years

India and Ghana have elevated their ties to the level of a comprehensive partnership, with PM Narendra Modi reaffirming that New Delhi is a co-traveller in the African nation's development journey. Modi made the remarks on July 2, 2025, after holding wide-ranging talks with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama. The delegation-level meeting between the two leaders took place hours after Mr. Modi arrived in this capital city of the West African country on the first leg of his five-nation tour. Following the Modi-Mahama talks, the two sides inked four pacts that will provide for cooperation in several areas including culture and traditional medicine. 'Today, the President and I have decided to elevate our bilateral partnership to a Comprehensive Partnership,' Mr. Modi said, adding, 'India is not just a partner but a co-traveller in Ghana's journey of nation-building.' The Prime Minister also highlighted the upswing in trade relations between the two countries. 'Indian companies have invested nearly two billion dollars in about 900 projects. Today, we have set a target to double our mutual trade in the next five years,' he said. 'In the field of FinTech, India is ready to share its experience of UPI digital payments with Ghana,' he noted.

Insufficient supply of urea hits farmers

Devanakonda (Kurnool district): A shortage of urea in Devanakonda mandal has sparked distress among farmers, particularly with recent light rainfall and expanded cotton cultivation prompting increased demand for complex fertilisers. Private fertiliser shops are linking urea sales to bio-pesticides, preventing farmers from purchasing urea independently. As a result, many are flocking to the government-run Rythu Seva Kendra (RSK) in Devanakonda for supplies. On Wednesday, a truck delivering urea bags to the RSK triggered a rush of farmers from surrounding villages. The crisis has been exacerbated by the recent transfer of village-level Agricultural Assistants, disrupting fertiliser distribution to local RSKs. With no stock available in villages, farmers are forced to travel to mandal headquarters, overwhelming the central RSK. Farmers voiced frustration over the restriction of two urea bags per Aadhaar card, arguing it is insufficient for their cultivation needs. The limited supply and distribution challenges have heightened tensions, as farmers rely heavily on urea for their crops during this critical Agricultural Officer Usha Rani addressed the concerns, assuring farmers that urea and DAP supplies to village-level RSKs will resume after July 5. She urged calmness, emphasising that steps are being taken to streamline distribution across the mandal. Authorities are working to address the logistical issues caused by the staff transfers and ensure equitable access to fertilisers. The situation underscores the need for improved supply chain management to support farmers during peak agricultural seasons. For now, farmers are hopeful that the promised resumption of supplies will alleviate the shortage and enable them to meet their cultivation demands effectively.
