Binghamton Bearcats Softball prepares for AE Tournament; Sweep Conference Honors
The team went 33-12 in the regular season and currently sits on a 7-game win streak. They are 9-1 at home, with their only loss at the Sports Complex being to out-of-conference Cornell. The team's conference losses came to the 2 seed, UMBC, in late March. They kick off their America East Tournament run on Thursday at 11 am, as they have a first-round bye, where they'll either face Bryant or UMass Lowell, which will be found out on Wednesday.
'I think that we knew right from the start of the fall that this was going to be a special team,' said Head Coach Jess Bump. 'They followed through and did everything that we were expecting them to do.'
The tournament is hosted at the Bearcats Softball Complex.
After the America East released the all-conference teams for 2025 on Tuesday afternoon, it was all headlined by Binghamton.
Sophomore catcher and Groton native Elisa Allen was named Player of the Year in the conference. Junior Brianna Roberts got the nod for Pitcher of the Year. Rookie of the year was given to freshman Rachel Carey, and Head Coach Jess Bump repeated as Coach of the Year.
The Bearcats are the first softball program in the America East ever to sweep all four major awards outright. In addition, Binghamton posted a conference-record seven first-team selections and nine overall picks.

J.J. Watt, Andre Johnson welcome Janice McNair to Texans' Ring of Honor
A fourth member of the Ring of Honor will be inducted this upcoming season for the Houston Texans and the other three are making sure to congratulate her. Texans Co-Founder and Senior Chair Janice S. McNair will be the newest member inducted into the team's Ring of Honor, joining late owner and husband Bob McNair, Hall of Fame wide receiver Andre Johnson and three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt. The induction ceremony will take place during halftime of the Texans' Week 9 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Nov. 2. While McNair couldn't send a message, both CEO Cal and Hannah McNair made sure to welcome her to the ring on his behalf. "As a co-founder of the team and someone who has given so much to the organization and the city, this was an east decision," Cal McNair said. Watt, who was the latest to be inducted, echoed a similar sentiment while welcoming her into the highest honor of Texans' history. 'It's only right that we'll be able to look up and see your name right there next to Bob," Watt said. "You guys helped bring professional football back to Houston and you are truly one of the kindest, sweetest souls that I have ever known." Johnson, the first Texans player in the Ring of Honor and first Hall of Fame recipient in franchise history, thanks Janice for helping him build a career that led him to Canton, Ohio and football immortality. "I'm truly honored to be up there next to you guys and I'd like to thank you for drafting me," Johnson said. "A kid from Miami just to have a chance to play in this amazing city and amazing organization." The Texans open the regular season on Sept. 7 against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.

Nebraska volleyball claims top spot in Big Ten preseason poll
The Nebraska volleyball team has been selected as the Big Ten's top team in the coaches' 2025 preseason poll. The league's 18 coaches voted the Huskers as the conference's No. 1 team, with Penn State ranked second, followed by Wisconsin, which placed third. The Huskers are coming off their fifth Big Ten title in 2024 with a 19-1 conference record. They finished the season with a 33-3 record and reached the NCAA Semifinals. The program enters the 2025 season under new leadership after the surprise retirement of former head coach John Cook. Former Louisville head coach Dani Busboom Kelly replaced Cook. The Big Ten's coaches have also noticed the individual talent the Huskers roster holds this season. Four Huskers were named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team. Andi Jackson is a junior middle blocker. She was an AVCA All-America First Team member and a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team honoree last season. Harper Murray is a junior outside hitter. She was an AVCA Second Team All-American last year and led the Huskers in kills with 3.40 per set. Bergen Reilly is a junior setter. She is coming off her second straight AVCA All-America Second Team honors and is the first player in conference history to win Big Ten Setter of the Year as both a freshman and sophomore. Rebekah Allick is a senior middle blocker. She averaged 1.82 kills per set in 2024 with a career-best .357 hitting percentage. She had a team-high 1.43 blocks per set. She was an All-Big Ten Second Team selection in 2022 and 2023. Earlier this week, Jackson, Murray, and Reilly were named to the AVCA Player of the Year watch list. The three juniors are among the 30 players named to the list. Nebraska will begin the 2025 season on Friday, August 22, when the Huskers host Pittsburgh at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Red Sox promote top pitching prospect to Double-A after 79 Ks in 49.2 IP in pro debut
One day after three pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter for the Portland Sea Dogs, the Red Sox' Double-A affiliate is adding one of Boston's top pitching prospects to its roster. Left-hander Payton Tolle has been promoted to Double-A and will join the Sea Dogs for their series in Binghamton this week, a source confirmed Monday. Tolle was Boston's second-round pick last season (50th overall). He was recently ranked as the No. 84 prospect in the game, according to Baseball America's latest rankings, and is considered by many to be the best pitching prospects in Boston's system. He'll join fellow standouts Connelly Early and David Sandlin in the Double-A rotation. Tolle, 22, dominated at High-A Greenville, posting a 3.62 ERA and striking out 79 batters in 49 ⅔ innings over 11 games (10 starts) in his first taste of pro action. The TCU alum capped off his time with the Drive by allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine batters Sunday against Greensboro. He has struck out at least eight batters in four of his last five starts. Tolle was ranked as the No. 8 prospect in Boston's system by MassLive before the season. Updated rankings from have him fifth, with the top two spots occupied by Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, who are in the majors. Tolle isn't the only prospect joining Portland. Left-hander Eduardo Rivera (35th on SoxProspects' List) and catcher/first baseman Brooks Brannon (No. 42) were also promoted from High-A, as Beyond the Monster's Josh Ball first reported. Also, lefty Shea Sprague, who has made 10 of 11 appearances this year at Single-A Salem, will join High-A Greenville.
