Films to be shown in several venues at this year's EIFF
The venue for industry and press will be at Tollcross Central Hall where several In Conversation events will also take place.
EIFF will run from 14-20 August 2025.
CEO and Festival Director Paul Ridd and Festival Producer Emma Boa are in charge of the Festival which continues to discover new film talent and engage with audiences, industry members and local, national and international media.
Paul Ridd, CEO and Festival Director of EIFF, said: 'We are thrilled to be working with the reopened Filmhouse as well as Vue Cinema this year. These are exciting firsts for us as the completely new, revamped and relaunched iteration of the Festival going into our second year, but they carry with them the legacy of EIFF's history in the city and deep connection with these vital venues. We are also delighted to return to The Cameo Cinema and to transform Tollcross Central Hall into a buzzy Festival Hub and a beautiful space at the National Galleries Scotland: National into a state of the art pop-up screening venue. We cannot wait to pack these big, beautiful spaces with our rich programme of film screenings, events and talks across the seven days of our Festival. Bring it on again!'
Directed by Paul Ridd and the Festival Producer, Emma Boa, the EIFF team aims to create a world-class showcase for independent film and filmmaking talent.
Ridd is supported by the EIFF Board, led by Chair Andrew Macdonald of DNA Films, producer of the iconic Edinburgh-based film Trainspotting; and Vice Chair Amy Jackson, producer of BAFTA award-winning indie, Aftersun; as well as Peter Rice, former Chairman of General Entertainment at Disney and President of 21st Century Fox, Teresa Moneo, Former Director of UK Film, Netflix, Isla Macgillivray, Partner at Saffrey and Romana Ramzan, Producer at No Code Studio.

SOS: Extreme Rescues to return to BBC for third series
SOS: Extreme Rescues, produced by Caernarfon-based company Darlun, will return for a third series on BBC One Wales, BBC Two, and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday, July 16. The 12-part observational series follows the work of emergency teams in the Eryri region of north Wales. Arwyn Evans, executive producer at Darlun, said: "Viewers can expect everything from blizzards on snow-capped peaks to dramatic airlifts from remote coastlines and high-risk rescues in ancient forests. "The new series captures heart-stopping moments in real time as ordinary people face extraordinary danger – and the heroes who come to their aid." The series, filmed over the past 18 months, highlights the collaborative efforts of more than 17 emergency and volunteer rescue teams. Sorelle Neil, commissioning editor for BBC Cymru Wales, said: "We're thrilled to have commissioned another series of SOS: Extreme Rescues. "The programme continues to showcase the bravery, skill and dedication of Wales' emergency responders, and not only captures the breathtaking beauty and peril of Eryri, but also the extraordinary teamwork and resilience of those who risk their lives to protect others." Erotic novelist Sophie Gravia used chatbot to break up with boyfriend
When faced with the daunting task of ending a relationship where the spark simply fizzled, Sophie Gravia turned to artificial intelligence for a helping hand. The award-winning Scottish author, known for her erotic fiction novels, could not think how to break up with her boyfriend so she outsourced the problem to an AI chatbot. The 33-year-old writer found herself dating a man who was by all accounts perfectly nice. However, despite his good qualities, Gravia just couldn't find that elusive connection. 'He was a nice person, couldn't fault him in any way but I just wasn't into it,' she confessed on her BBC Situationships podcast that she co-hosts with Christine McGuinness. 'When I was with him, I don't know if he was maybe a wee bit boring and there was no spark.' As she was struggling to find the right words to let him down gently, a friend suggested an unconventional solution: artificial intelligence. Intrigued, Gravia downloaded an AI app. She explained her predicament to the chatbot, asking it to craft a break-up message that wouldn't hurt her boyfriend's feelings, essentially an 'it's not you, it's me' scenario. 'They gave me this … text message to write and honestly it was great,' Gravia recalled. She personalised the message slightly, adding names and a touch of Scottish flair, before sending it off last year. The digital parting wasn't entirely smooth sailing, as the man tried to call her. Gravia, still relying on her AI confidante, even copied and pasted his subsequent text message back into the app, asking for a reply. When the conversation lingered and she felt uncomfortable, she instructed the AI to 'be more firm', which it readily did, crafting an even more direct message. Although her friends advocated a more blunt approach, Gravia believed the AI delivered a far kinder message than she ever could have. 'AI wrote it very nicely, a lot nicer than me or any of my friends,' she said, giving the chatbot a 'ten out of ten'. Gravia, a former nurse, burst onto the literary scene with her self-published debut A Glasgow Kiss in 2021, and went on to sell hundreds of thousands of copies of her popular novels. Now, it seems, she's not just a master of fiction, but also a pioneer in the art of the AI-assisted break-up.

Jo Whiley felt ‘tingles' when Oasis played in her studio for first time
Whiley and co-presenter Steve Lamacq played Columbia by Oasis on their Radio 1 Evening Session in 1993 – the first time the band was ever played on the radio. She said she felt 'tingles' when the group, fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, then went on to play a live session in the studio. Ahead of their reunion tour, which kicks of on Friday, Whiley reminisced about the early days of the Manchester-based band with fellow DJ Sara Cox, who was standing in for Scott Mills on his Radio 2 breakfast show. Whiley said: 'I remember our producers said (then-Oasis manager) Alan McGee has got this record. It's really good. 'He says this band are amazing, you've got to play it.' Whiley said the song was Columbia, adding: 'Then they came in and did a session. It was so beautiful, you can just see the star quality. 'You could feel the charisma and the tension between the brothers. 'They did Live Forever, and it was unbelievable. 'I'm going to play that on my show tonight because we're doing this big Oasis show this evening. 'I just remember sitting there, watching them, listening to Liam singing Live Forever, and just thinking tingles, proper tingles, I'll never forget it.' Cox joked about how it was down to Whiley that Oasis have reformed after she suggested to Liam when he came on her radio show in more recent years that he call Noel.
