Martine McCutcheon's mum reveals real reason she's estranged from daughter after tragedy
Following the tragic death of Martine McCutcheon's younger brother Laurence John in 2022, the actress and singer was left devastated. But it wasn't just the death of her beloved brother that broke her heart, the relationship between her and her mother Jenny Tomlin also started to crumble, leaving the pair estranged.
At the time of Laurence's death, who was only 31 at the time, Martine, 49, famous for her role in EastEnders and the iconic film Love Actually, Martine revealed that her heart is "forever broken."
In an interview with OK! Magazine, Jenny explains that it was her fault their relationship fell apart. She admits that she suffered an emotional breakdown and ended up pushing Martine further and further away.
But she is now desperate to reconcile.
Recalling their close bond, Jenny told the publication: "We did all the wonderful stuff – the premiere of Love Actually, the restaurants – but the memories I cherish are of us just sitting on my bed, bringing up old memories and laughing. I miss that."
Explaining her mindset at the time, Jenny continued: "When I lost LJ, I detached. I was so heartbroken I couldn't talk to Martine."
She added: "There was no big row – Martine tried to contact me for months, but I didn't answer. Martine was grieving and needed me, too. I want the chance to say sorry. I miss her so much – it physically hurts."
Last year, Martine reached out to Jenny but their reunion was anything but the one she had hoped for as little was discussed in order for them to move forward.
Martine had asked if Jenny's husband could do "some painting" in her new home. She explained that she literally jumped at the opportunity to visit her daughter in a bid to mend their fractured relationship - but instead their union felt "awkward" and "the atmosphere felt heavy."
Jenny has now gone as far as to liken her split with Martine with Victoria Beckham, who is reportedly going through the same thing with her eldest son Brooklyn Beckham.
Laurence, who was known to family and friends as LJ, did not drink alcohol or smoke, but had suffered with acute ischaemic heart disease and diabetes.
Realising the error of her ways at the time, Jenny candidly admits that she had "abandoned" Martine as she was "so wrapped up in my own grief that I was neglecting my other child."
Jenny explains that the reason for her interview is to hopefully show Martine that she is ready to put the past behind her.
She explained that she has called, text and sent cards to the mum of one but has had no response. She had even driven to her house and shouted her name out. But again was faced with silence.
Jenny hopes that one day she could have a cup of tea with her daughter while her grandson plays in her garden.

New EastEnders star is a nepo baby as famous family members who have also starred in BBC soap are revealed
Max Murray has landed a role in EastEnders alongside legendary stars but it has now been revealed he comes from a long-line of actors and singers in his family. The youngster has been portraying character Joel Marshall since February this year but it turns out he is actually following in his famous mum's footsteps. Max is the son of actress Gina Murray, who has starred in a number of well known programmes including The Bill, Doctors and The Hunt for Raoul Moat and appeared in the BBC soap back in 2014 playing Helen. Gina's character Helen arrived in Albert Square as a hair specialist to help Carol Jackson, who was struggling with losing her hair as she fought off cancer. It was Helen's role to help Carol find a wig. Max is also the nephew of Mazz Murray, who is a successful TV and theatre actress, starring in Sunset Boulevard, Mamma Mia and Chicago to name but a few. In 2004, Mazz also starred on EastEnders as a waitress called Miranda who had a brawl with Heather Trott and Shirley Carter. Max's character Joel is the step-son of Vicky Fowler, who returned to the square for the funeral of her uncle Martin Fowler. Her new boyfriend Ross is played by Alex Walkinshaw. At the time when Max's role was announced, he told the Mirror: 'It's an absolute privilege and honour to be joining such a wonderful production full of a lovely cast and crew. 'I'm really looking forward to introducing Joel to EastEnders viewers and telling his story.' It comes as EastEnders favourite Nicholas Bailey will make a shock return as Dr. Anthony Trueman to the soap, more than a decade since he was last seen in Walford. The character – son of Patrick Trueman (played by Rudolph Walker) – will be back on screens in scenes to air in the summer. Anthony first arrived on the Square in 2000 and quickly made waves, thanks in part to a steamy romance with Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace). Now, 11 years on from his last stint, the GP is set for a dramatic reunion with his dad this summer as Patrick and Yolande prepare to tie the knot. Anthony last appeared in EastEnders in 2014 when he rushed to his father's side when Patrick suffered a stroke. Since then, he has led a life away from Walford but in upcoming scenes viewers will see he is invited to his father's impending nuptials and decides to return for the occasion. In a post on the official Eastenders Instagram account, the long running soap teased the visit to Walford comes at a significant moment for Patrick, which means Anthony stays longer than he originally intended. In a statement, executive producer Ben Wadey said: 'It's great to welcome Nicholas back to the EastEnders family to reunite Patrick with his son. 'But Anthony's plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.' Nicholas who will reprise the iconic role added: 'It is an unexpected treat to return to EastEnders and I'm full of gratitude to get the opportunity to revisit the character of Anthony. 'It's wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again - he's such a big part of my journey as an actor and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long.

'I took a break from music for obvious reasons and I moved to Berlin, so I've had a lot on my plate,' she said. 'But to be honest, I took a break because I don't like doing things half-heartedly. I'm very passionate about what I do, so I want to do it properly.' Megan has been building a music career since winning The X Factor: Celebrity in 2019. Her original song This went straight to number one on iTunes and entered the UK Official Charts. The heartfelt ballad is now widely used in social media videos for engagement and pregnancy announcements, including Megan's own announcement in April last year, which followed fertility struggles. 'I hear my song all the time and get tagged in so many videos using it. It's really lovely,' she said. 'I would say definitely The X Factor helped with people realising that I've grown up a lot. "People realised that I can actually write music. I'm not just a singer who sings karaoke. I actually write from the heart and I think that's why I won The X Factor because all my songs are inspired by my own stories.' Her music journey has not been without challenges. Megan revealed that after her win, Simon Cowell's label, which was supposed to support her next steps, closed down. 'The label shut down after I won, so it was pretty hard. It was tough because I'd worked so, so hard,' she said. 'But Simon and I had a nice relationship. "He actually rang me, which was crazy, because it's not every day Simon Cowell rings you, to say that the label was closing down. She laughed, adding: 'I love cooking, I love singing, I love Landon and I love Ollie. That's all I need, really.'
