Pakistan cricketers slip in latest ICC Test rankings
Pakistan's presence in the latest ICC Test rankings has taken a hit, with several players dropping in their respective categories amid a lack of upcoming red-ball fixtures.
The team is currently scheduled to play only white-ball cricket over the next two months, with series lined up against Bangladesh and the West Indies, likely contributing to further ranking stagnation or decline.
They will start their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 campaign with a home series against South Africa in October-November.
Middle-order batter Saud Shakeel has fallen out of the top 10, slipping one spot to 11th with 739 rating points.
Mohammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper-batter, has dropped three places to 19th with 671 points, while former skipper Babar Azam has retained his 22nd position on the list with 651 points.
All-rounder Salman Ali Agha remains steady at 33rd with 592 points, and Test captain Shan Masood has climbed three places to reach 44th with 542 points.
Abdullah Shafique holds on to the 51st spot, while Kamran Ghulam has slipped two spots to 76th. Young opener Saim Ayub also dropped two places to 83rd, now holding 352 points.
In contrast, India's Rishabh Pant continues to climb, earning a career-best rating in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings.
His twin centuries (134 and 118) in the opening Test against England earned him a rise to sixth place with 801 points, just 88 behind the top-ranked batter Joe Root. Pant is now just one spot below his career-high ranking of fifth, which he last achieved in 2022.
Root holds onto the No.1 position following scores of 28 and an unbeaten 53 at Headingley. He is closely followed by teammate Harry Brook, who trails by just 15 rating points. Kane Williamson of New Zealand sits in third with 867 points.
In the bowling rankings, Pakistan's Noman Ali has slipped one place to fifth, holding 806 rating points. Sajid Khan retains the 20th position, with Shaheen Shah Afridi right behind at 21st with 641 points.
Mohammad Abbas has moved up one place to 26th, while Naseem Shah has gained a spot to reach 34th with 526 points.
Among other bowlers, Abrar Ahmed dropped one place to 48th, Khurram Shahzad slid two spots to 62nd, and Aamer Jamal currently stands at 70th.
Mir Hamza and Salman Ali Agha fell six and five places respectively, now ranked 92nd and 93rd, while Zahid Mahmood dropped five spots to 95th.
India's Jasprit Bumrah remains the No.1 ranked Test bowler, followed by Kagiso Rabada of South Africa in second and Australian skipper Pat Cummins in third.

Czech climber dies on 'killer mountain'
A Czech mountaineer fell to her death on the world's ninth-highest peak, Pakistan officials said Friday, becoming the first casualty of the summer climbing season in the country. Klara Kolouchova, 46, the first Czech woman to summit the world's two highest mountains, died Thursday after falling on the lower slopes of Nanga Parbat. The 8,125-metre (26,656-foot) mountain is one of the world's most dangerous climbs with a reported one-in-five fatality rate. "Her feet slipped from a slope and she fell into a ravine," Nizam-ud-Din, a senior local government official in Diamer district, told AFP, adding that one of her team members reported the death. "The exact location of her body will first be traced. Once confirmed, appropriate rescue operations will be initiated to retrieve the body by using a helicopter service."

Keys slumped to a 6-3, 6-3 loss against the German world number 104 in the third round on Court Two. The 30-year-old is the fifth player among the top six seeds in the women's draw to suffer a surprise exit from this year's tournament. Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini and Zheng Qinwen had already bowed out, though world number one Aryna Sabalenka is still alive. Keys, who beat Sabalenka to clinch her maiden Grand Slam crown in Melbourne in January, is yet to make it past the quarter-finals in 11 visits to the All England Club. She made 31 unforced errors in a lacklustre display against Siegemund. It was a miserable way to spend the fourth of July for Keys while her compatriots celebrated the Independence Day holiday back in the United States. Siegemund, who beat former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in the second round, is through to the Wimbledon last 16 for the first time. At 37, she is the oldest player left in the women's tournament, with her best Grand Slam singles run coming when she made the French Open quarter-finals in 2020. "When you beat a great player like Madison you have to be really happy," said Siegemund. "I managed to keep my nerve in the end. If you don't have nerves in this moment you are probably dead. "It was a big opportunity. You just take a deep breath and remember your strategy. "All the girls on the tour are perfectionists. I'm the same but there was no pressure for me. Webster, Carey again steady Aus in West Indies Test

PHOTO: AFP A second consecutive century partnership between Alex Carey and Beau Webster lifted Australia to 286 all out on the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada on Thursday. Rapidly fading light denied the Aussie opening bowlers a couple overs against the West Indies opening pair of former captain Kraigg Brathwaite, playing in his 100th Test, and John Campbell. Less than a week after their second innings effort in the first Test paved the way to a 159-run victory in Barbados, the sixth-wicket pairing of Carey and Webster put on 112 to ensure that the Caribbean bowlers were again thwarted in pursuit of a swift demolition of the visitors' first innings. Carey, as usual, was all positivity in a topscore of 63 off 81 balls, an innings highlighted by one six and ten fours. Webster, who continues to impress in his first year of Test cricket, was more measured in his innings of 60, occupying 115 deliveries during which he struck one six and six fours, playing the sheet-anchor role through a succession of partnerships after Australia slipped to 93 for four in the morning session after opting to bat first. He was eventually ninth out by the run out route, coming back for a non-existent second run in one of his few errors of judgement in the course of his innings. Webster was full of praise for wicketkeeper-batsman Carey for the manner in which he took on the West Indies bowlers. After an indifferent first Test, Joseph was the one to make the early strikes with two wickets, including the returning Steve Smith, while Phillip snared the other as the tourists lost three wickets for three runs midway through the morning session. Following an opening stand of 47, Usman Khawaja was trapped leg-before by Joseph and Sam Konstas drove at Phillip, playing his first Test for 18 months, to offer wicketkeeper Shai Hope a straightforward catch. Smith promptly miscued a pull at Joseph to be held by Phillip inches away from the long-leg boundary. Travis Head then joined Cameron Green at 50 for three and the pair took Australia almost to the lunch interval when Green, badly missed by John Campbell at cover, fell two balls later for 26 to Seales via a catch at gully by West Indies captain Roston Chase.
