Arkansas hires Oral Roberts' Kelsi Musick as women's basketball coach
The former Oral Roberts coach signed a five-year deal worth $600,000 a season. She led the Golden Eagles to a postseason appearances in each of the last two seasons while increasing the team's win total every year.
The team lost in the first round of the WBIT on Thursday to finish 24-9.
'As I spoke to Kelsi and people associated with her, I was impressed by her work ethic, enthusiasm and her ability to maximize resources in building winning programs at each of her coaching stops,' said Hunter Yurachek, Arkansas' athletic director and vice chancellor. 'She has proven to be a great relationship builder and communicator throughout her career to the benefit of her teams and student-athletes on and off the court. Having grown up and coached in Oklahoma, she has a familiarity with our area that will help her quickly connect with our state and fan base."
Musick led Oral Roberts to a second-place finish in the Summit League this past season after a third-place finish in her second season in Tulsa. Her squad last season made history with the program's first 20-win season since 2011-12 and made it to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
'I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the women's basketball program at the University of Arkansas,' Musick said. 'This is a place with a proud tradition, passionate fans and a commitment to excellence in every way. I'm excited to get to work building something special. I want to thank Hunter Yurachek and his staff for their belief in me, and I can't wait to pour into our student-athletes, compete in the SEC and represent this university with pride.'
Musick replaced Mike Neighbors, who resigned earlier this month after the team went 10-22 this year.

(AP) — The Washington Commanders' seventh training camp practice, all without hold-in wide receiver Terry McLaurin, occurred during another punishing wave of summer heat. The kind that can make a day feel much longer. Jayden Daniels did not appreciate a calendar reality check. 'It's only been a week?' the quarterback said. Washington's fans know all about time moving slowly and the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year's arrival last season allowed them to quickly re-engage. The Commanders' stunning 2024 season culminated in the franchise's first NFC championship game appearance since the 1991 season. One fan brought a handmade sign to Thursday's practice that summed up the mood shift across the fan base: 'Thank you #5 Jayden for making it fun again to be a fan.' Expectations are high thanks to the electric playmaker. To stay in contention, Daniels needs to build chemistry with a revamped receiver group — especially since McLaurin has yet to practice while in a contract standoff. Deebo Samuel, acquired this offseason for a 2025 fifth-round pick, already looks in sync with Daniels. The veteran receiver has made a big play in nearly every session, whether on a deep shot — such as Thursday's corner-of-the-end-zone pass — or a crossing route where he turns a short pass into a longer gain. Film study and practice reps help with timing. But Daniels also values building trust beyond the playbook. 'I try to connect with each and every guy in the locker room,' said Daniels, who has become more vocal entering Year 2. 'That's where it all starts. Once you start with that, then you're able to move on to the field — get to know how the guy works, what type of person he is.' Samuel, 29, had 1,405 yards and 77 receptions in 2021. He hasn't topped 60 catches or 900 yards since, slowed by injuries and inconsistency. But his confidence hasn't dipped. 'I still got a lot in the tank,' Samuel said. Having Daniels throwing him the ball helps. 'It's real fun,' Samuel said. 'It's real fun.' The admiration runs both ways. 'The guy is a pro, and he works hard,' Daniels said. 'I just go out there and try to communicate, 'This is what I want versus this look, versus this coverage.' And he goes out there, puts in the work, and understands it.' Fourth-rounder Jaylin Lane is another wide receiver thriving in camp, and Daniels has maintained his red zone connection with tight end Zach Ertz. Dan Quinn sees another difference. The second-year Commanders head coach praised Daniels for becoming more assertive. Quinn highlighted a post-play conversation with tight end Ben Sinnott after a blitz-beating throw. 'The communication's the main thing,' Quinn said. 'If you see it, say it.' That communication doesn't extend to the field with McLaurin — not yet. The veteran wideout reported to camp Sunday after skipping the first four practices and parts of the offseason program. He remains on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury while contract talks continue. Daniels, who formed one of the league's most successful passing combos with McLaurin last season, isn't sweating the timeline. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies are acquiring outfielder Harrison Bader for two minor leaguers, a person with direct knowledge of the trade said Thursday, their second deal with the Minnesota Twins in two days after landing closer Jhoan Duran. The person confirmed the swap to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it was pending a review of medical records. ESPN was first to report it. The 31-year-old Bader, a 2021 Gold Glove winner, remains a strong defender at all three outfield spots and has 12 home runs, 38 RBIs and a .778 OPS in 96 games. Bader adds another bat to an outfield that has struggled to put up big offensive numbers. He also has postseason experience, playing in five postseason series with the Cardinals, Yankees and Mets with a .809 OPS and five career homers. The right-handed hitting Bader could fall into a platoon with left-handers Brandon Marsh in center or Max Kepler in left. The Phillies are sending minor league outfielder Hendry Mendez and right-hander Geremy Villoria to the Twins for Bader. The Phillies acquired Duran to round out the bullpen a day earlier.
