Food businesses asked by FSSAI not to file false, misleading annual returns

Mint4 days ago
New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Food safety regulator FSSAI has asked all Food Business Operators to ensure absolute accuracy in all their annual return submissions, reiterating that providing false or misleading information will attract severe penalties.
Compliance with requirements is paramount for safe food ecosystem, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said in a post on X.
Earlier this month, the FSSAI wrote to the food safety units of all the states and sensitised about the must-be-followed compliances.
FSSAI had in December 2020 mandated the filing of Annual Returns for 2020-21 onwards exclusively through the online FoSCoS platform.
Since then, the submission rate has significantly improved, FSSAI said in its communication the states and UTs.
These annual returns capture key information, including mandatory production details and currently non-mandatory compliance-related data.
To verify the credibility of the information, all Licensing Authorities must scrutinize the Annual Returns submitted by eligible FBOs under their respective jurisdictions.
Further, in case of detection of any discrepancies, inconsistencies, or false declarations upon scrutiny, necessary actions shall be initiated as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and applicable regulations.
Further, FSSAI had in January 2024 introduced the provision in FoSCoS for FBOs to revise/update the already submitted Annual Returns to rectify inadvertent mistakes.
"All FBOs eligible for filing Annual Return are hereby reminded that submission of accurate and complete information in the Annual Return is mandatory. In cases where any correction or update is required, FBOs are advised to avail the revision/update facility at the earliest as per the timelines and fee structure prescribed in the said order," reads the FSSAI communication to the states dated July 7.
"It is further reiterated that furnishing false or misleading information shall attract penalty under Section 61 of the FSS Act, 2006; therefore, timely correction of errors is essential to avoid penal action," the July 7 order further reads. (ANI)

India's EV charging network sees 5X growth since FY22; but only 1 public charging station for every 235 EVs: Report

NEW DELHI: India's electric vehicle (EV) charging network is expanding at a rapid pace, with public charging stations witnessing a nearly five-fold jump from FY22 to early FY25, according to a report by CareEdge Ratings. The number of EV public charging stations rose from 5,151 in 2022 to 26,367 by early FY25, reflecting a strong compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 72% over the three-year period. The analysis indicates a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 72 per cent across the three-year span from FY22 to FY25. The report said that, "Charging infrastructure is scaling rapidly, with public EV stations growing over 5x from FY22 to early FY25." This substantial expansion is attributed to robust initiatives from both central and state administrations. The national government has intensified its efforts to enhance public charging infrastructure nationwide. Various state-specific EV policies are contributing significantly by drawing investments from both government and private sectors, ANI reported. This expansion demonstrates the administration's dedication to promoting electric vehicle adoption across the country. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 4BHK+Family Lounge+Utility room at 4.49Cr (All Incl)* ATS Triumph, Gurgaon Book Now Undo Furthermore, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for battery production, coupled with duty relief on essential minerals, is anticipated to decrease India's import reliance by up to 20 per cent by FY27, potentially reducing EV costs and overall ownership expenses. Nevertheless, the analysis identifies a disparity between EV adoption and charging infrastructure development. Present statistics show one public charging station serves 235 electric vehicles. The report notes, "With only 26,367 public EV charging stations available, India currently has around one charger for every 235 EVs on the road." This situation emphasises the requirement for accelerated development of charging facilities to accommodate the rising electric vehicle sales. Despite rapid expansion in India's EV charging network, more proportionate growth is essential to adequately support the shift towards electric transportation. Nifty, Sensex open flat, cautious in tandem with Asian indices, Jio Financials, Axis bank, Wipro to announce results

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 17 (ANI): Indian stock markets opened flat but in the green on Thursday, tracking cautious movement in other Asian markets. Investors continued to focus on the ongoing first quarter earnings season, which remains the primary driver for market sentiment. The Nifty 50 index opened at 25,230.75, gaining 18.70 points or 0.07 per cent, while the BSE Sensex began the session at 82,753.53, up by 119.05 points or 0.14 per cent. Banking and market expert Ajay Bagga told ANI, "'Will he, won't he' was the drama moving markets yesterday. At first, a White House aide revealed that Trump is going to fire Fed Chair Powell and has discussed it with lawmakers. Markets fell, the US dollar fell, and Treasury yields went up. Then, after seeing the market reaction, Trump said he is not going to fire Powell. Markets recovered. But Trump added a footnote, saying, unless Powell is held responsible for fraud. Markets started coasting, holding their breath. This drama is consuming a lot of attention when there are a host of positives which should be taking the markets up." He further added "Indian markets are finding it tough to catch the retail flows and soar due to the continued FPI pessimism, with FPI net short positions once again past the 80 per cent. What is needed is a boost to the economy via GST cuts and a fiscal stimulus. Neither are seen on the horizon. One hope is the huge road contracts that NHAI is going to start signing. This will boost employment, cement, steel , construction and infra stocks. Banks should benefit as well". In a major development on the global trade front, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with Indonesia. Jakarta will now pay a reduced 19 per cent tariff on its exports to the U.S., down from the 32 per cent levies announced last week following talks with Washington. Among broader market indices on the NSE, all major indices except the Nifty 100 opened in green. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose by 0.15 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.32 per cent at the time of filing this report. In the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto gained 0.25 per cent, Nifty FMCG and Capital Goods rose 0.14 per cent, Nifty Media was up 0.20 per cent, Nifty Metal surged 0.26 per cent, Nifty Pharma rose 0.58 per cent, and Nifty Realty surged 1.11 per cent. Nifty IT was slightly down by 0.01 per cent. Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, said, "We believe 25,100/82,300 will remain a key support zone for traders. As long as the market remains above this level, the bullish trend is likely to persist. On the upside, the market could bounce back to the 20-day SMA or 25,350/83,200. Further upside could even take the market to 25,500/83,800. Conversely, below 25,100/82,300, the trend may change. If the market moves below this level, it may fall towards the 50-day SMA or the 25,000-24,900/82,000-81,700 zone." Several major companies are scheduled to announce their Q1 results today. These include Axis Bank, Wipro, Jio Financial Services, LTIMindtree, HDFC Asset Management Company, Indian Hotels Company, Polycab India, Tata Communications, 360 ONE WAM, LMW, Ceat, Clean Science & Technology, Newgen Software Technologies, Nuvoco Vistas Corporation, Waaree Renewable Technologies, and Alok Industries. In other Asian markets, a mixed trend was visible. Japan's Nikkei 225 was down by 0.15 per cent, Singapore's Straits Times gained 0.31 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.16 per cent, Taiwan's Weighted Index was flat in green, and South Korea's KOSPI slipped by 0.35 per cent. Indias EV charging infra grew 5 times in last 3 years, but still only 1 public charging station for every 235 EVs

New Delhi [India], July 17 (ANI): India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is growing rapidly, with the number of public EV charging stations registering a five-fold increase from FY22 to early FY25, according to a report by CareEdge Ratings. The report stated that public EV charging stations (EVPCS) have grown significantly from just 5,151 in CY22 to 11,903 in CY23, and further to 25,202 by the end of FY24, reaching 26,367 in early FY25. This marks a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 72 per cent over the three-year period from FY22 to FY25. It stated, "Charging infrastructure is scaling rapidly, with public EV stations growing over 5x from FY22 to early FY25." The report stated the rapid growth has been led by strong initiatives from the central and state governments. The Indian government has significantly stepped up efforts to boost public charging infrastructure across the country. Several state-level EV policies are also playing an important role by attracting both public and private investments into the sector. The report noted that this growth reflects the government's strong commitment to encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. Additionally, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for battery manufacturing, along with duty exemptions on key minerals, is expected to reduce India's import dependency by up to 20 per cent by FY27. This is likely to make EVs more affordable and help lower the overall cost of ownership. However, the report also pointed out a gap between the growth of EVs and the charging infrastructure. Currently, India has just one public charging station for every 235 electric vehicles on the road. It said, "With only 26,367 public EV charging stations available, India currently has around one charger for every 235 EVs on the road." This highlighted the need for continued and faster development of EV charging stations to keep pace with the increasing number of electric vehicles being sold in the country. Overall, while the EV charging network in India is expanding quickly, there is still a need for more balanced growth to fully support the transition to electric mobility. (ANI)
