Five of a gang selling & mortgaging rented vehicles arrested
Khargone superintendent of police Dharamraj Meena said that on May 22, a person from Bhavsar Mohalla, Khargone, complained that his car was not being returned after it was taken on rent.
In this case, Imran Sheikh, Farooq Sheikh, Avinash Jadhav and Deepak were arrested, and their police remand was obtained.
The police investigation found that this gang took vehicles on rent from other people from Khandwa, Harda, Khargone and Sendhwa of Barwani district, and either sold or mortgaged them. Police also arrested another accused, Chetan Dhamone, a resident of Sendhwa in Barwani district, in this case.
The SP said that nine four-wheelers valued at about Rs 60 lakh were seized from the accused. He said, "The accused used to take the vehicle in the name of renting it and also paid its rent in the initial months but when they stopped paying the rent, a complaint was lodged."
In a separate incident, Ajay Waghmare, sub-divisional officer (police) of Sendhwa in Barwani district, said that Arjun Sonwane, a resident of Nardana in Dhule district of Maharashtra, was arrested for not returning five tractors after taking them on rent from five farmers of the area.

He said that five tractors and a trolley valued at Rs 31 lakh were also seized from various places in Maharashtra. The accused only gave Rs 26,000 for the first month to only one farmer in Dec 2024 and then stopped picking up the phone, he added.

Myanmar refugees to face deportation if convicted of drug offences: Mizo group
Aizawl: Young Mizo Association (YMA) sub-headquarters in Champhai district, bordering Myanmar, has issued new directives to Myanmar refugees residing in the area. The guidelines state that any refugee convicted of drug trafficking or possession will be deported to Myanmar after serving their jail term. This week, the YMA sub-headquarters outlined rules prohibiting refugees from forming associations or groups based on sub-tribes. The move aims to ensure uniform guidelines and equal access to support and maintenance. "They (refugees) should enrol themselves in the respective YMA units of their localities or villages and submit their Myanmar identity cards to YMA leaders. Whoever violates the local social guidelines are liable to be punished," the directives said. If a refugee intends to relocate, the current YMA unit must notify the new unit in advance. Refugees are barred from running businesses that require govt permits or from owning land or buildings. 2 women get 12-year rigorous imprisonment for heroin possession
Ludhiana: A local court sentenced two women drug peddlers, who are siblings, to 12-year rigorous imprisonment each for possession of around 1kg heroin. Special court judge Harvinder Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the two convicts. In default of payment of the fine, they will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for one year. On July 6, 2020, STF Phase Four, Mohali, police station booked Kiran Bala of Chuharpur, now a tenant at Mohalla Durgapuri, and Suman Bala of the same area, under the NDPS Act for possession of the contraband. As per the prosecution, on that date, SI Gurcharan Singh and a police party at Jassian Road area of Haibowal, received information that the sisters were to supply heroin to a customer from their house in Durgapuri. Later, the police party apprehended the duo riding a scooter driven by Kiran Bala. Upon checking, a large black polythene bag containing heroin was recovered. Police filed a case and arrested them. During trial, the accused pleaded false implication and stated that nothing was recovered from them. The court didn't find force in the submission of the defence counsel and held, "It is now settled law that the testimony of police officials is as good as that of independent witnesses. The statements of police officials cannot be discarded merely because of the colour of their office. Whenever the case of the prosecution is based only on the statements of police officials, the only precaution for the court is to scrutinise their testimony with some more care and caution. " The court also turned down the submission of the accused about false implication in the case. The court observed that in view of the law laid down by the Supreme Court in the aforesaid case and in view of the facts, possession of the accused is fully proved on record, and they failed to give a satisfactory explanation for that. "Moreover, there appears to be no justification for the police to falsely implicate the accused, from whose possession a huge quantity of contraband was recovered. It is highly improbable that such a huge quantity of intoxicant material would be arranged by the police officials in order to falsely implicate the accused," the court remarked.
