Sporting refuse to budge on Gyokeres fee – but admit Arsenal target WILL leave ‘unless he has worst agent in the world'

ARSENAL have been told by Sporting Lisbon they will NOT budge on their Viktor Gyokeres valuation in another transfer window hammerblow.
And the Portuguese giants' president Frederico Varandas has warned the Gunners: pay up or miss out.

Boss Mikel Arteta has earmarked the striker as a top target to bolster his attack in this window, alongside Red Bull Leipzig frontman Benjamin Sesko – but both deals are currently in limbo.
Gyokeres, 27, has been left furious with Sporting over an alleged breach of a gentleman's agreement that would let him leave for around £60m – lower than his release clause of around £80m – and is now refusing to play for the Portuguese side again.
Arteta was hoping to land the Swede for a bargain price, but Varandas has doubled down on only selling the star for a fair market value, citing Arsenal's move for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Manchester United's pursuit of new-boy Matheus Cunha and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.
Varandas has even threatened to keep Gyokeres in Portugal if Arsenal continue to low ball, hoping to receive close to £70m to seal the switch.

He said: 'Sporting is very calm regarding Viktor Gyokeres. We do not need to sell him, but we remain sensitive to the dreams of Viktor and any of our athletes.
'After weeks of meetings, we are not asking for the release clause and will be reasonable regarding the price we ask for Viktor. Today, I believe there is a strong probability he will leave.
'We have been watching the market and I saw [Martin] Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, leave for £51million.
"I saw Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both forwards but who, in my opinion, do not have Viktor's market value or quality, being negotiated for around £64m.

Inside Arsenal's frustrating striker transfer saga
By Jordan Davies
ARSENAL'S never-ending hunt for a world-class striker is in turmoil as deals for Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres stall.
The Gunners were confident of doing their business quickly this summer after months of preparation by boss Mikel Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta.
But inflated asking prices and broken gentlemen's agreements have derailed those plans and left Arsenal frustrated.
Sesko believed he would be allowed to leave RB Leipzig for around £60million, while SunSport understands Gyokeres was told £59m would be enough to seal his own exit.
But those price-tags have gone up, leaving Arsenal debating whether they represent value for money.
While the players' camps are also growing restless, knowing the Gunners can only sign one of them.
So what next? Will Arsenal keep waiting in the hope of fees eventually going down? Or turn to other targets, like Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike?
Whatever they decide, with pre-season looming and the fixtures already out, Arteta will be desperate for them to move quickly to avoid another nearly season.
'Given the demands we consider fair, I believe Viktor could leave – unless he has the worst agent in the world, which is hard for me to believe, because he is one of the best footballers in the world.
'The player knows, the agent knows, and I can guarantee, with absolute certainty, that Viktor will not leave for £60m.'

United – who are also monitoring Gyokeres' situation – have already signed Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m this summer and have also seen multiple bids rejected for Mbeumo.
Arsenal are set to announce the arrival of midfielder Zubimendi, and are in talks to sign Valencia centre back Christian Mosquera for around £20m.
Varandas said: 'If Viktor stays, we will be very, very happy – and it will be a problem for our rivals.
'We are completely prepared to move for our target if Viktor leaves.'
Gyokeres is currently on holiday after international duty with Sweden and is due to report back for pre-season in Lisbon on July 7 unless a deal is struck before then.
Arsenal are in a similar mess with 22-year-old Sesko, who is angry over Leipzig's hard-ball stance, demanding £70m despite a lower initial gentleman's agreement in January.

Former Arsenal star baffled by incoming signing: 'It doesn't make sense'

Former Arsenal defender William Gallas cannot get his head round why the Gunners are signing Christian Norgaard and have let Thomas Partey leave. The Brentford captain is yet to complete his move to the Emirates, but it is expected that the Denmark international will do so in the near future. A fee of £10m has reportedly been agreed and the 31-year-old is set to move across London, swapping the Bees for the Gunners. It comes as Thomas Partey leaves Arsenal this summer at the end of his contract, with the Ghana departing after making 167 appearances for the club. Partey was a regular in the first team last season, making 52 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals. Gallas is confused as to why his former club would let the Ghanaian leave on a free and pay to bring in the Dane. However, the Frenchman may well have answered his own question as Arsenal are also expected to confirm the signing of Martin Zubimendi, which would have pushed Partey down the pecking order. That may well have made his wages seem too expensive and encouraged the player to find more starting opportunities elsewhere. 'I just don't understand why Arsenal are signing Christian Norgaard and are letting Thomas Partey go,' Gallas told Prime Casino. 'Okay, Partey is 32 and Norgaard is 31, but why spend the money on a player when you already have someone like Partey in the club? 'With Zubimendi arriving, Partey would likely have been his back-up, and perhaps he wanted to play more or perhaps Arsenal didn't think he was worth the contract that they wanted, but for me, it doesn't make sense to then let him leave and spend £10m on a replacement that is a year younger. 'I think it would have made more sense to keep Partey or sign a youngster, not go like for like with a new player that will have no sell-on value.' In reality, Norgaard isn't really coming in as a replacement for Partey, but more to replace Jorginho, who has left for Flamengo. The Dane is unlikely to start too many matches, unless there are injury problems, with Zubimendi coming in to replace Partey and partner Declan Rice in central midfield. Appearances: 122Goals: 11Assists: 12Yellow cards: 30 Red cards: 1 Both arrivals are still not confirmed though, with Brentford's director of football saying earlier this week that Norgaard's move is likely, but not completed. 'Arsenal approached us in the last two weeks about Christian – we've spoken regularly with Andrea Berta,' Phil Giles told Sky Sports on Monday. More Trending 'As it stands, I think it's more likely to happen than not. 'But we have to go through the full process, tick all the boxes, and we'll see at the end of it.' Kepa Arrizabalaga was announced as Arsenal's first summer signing on Monday, with Norgaard and Zubimendi expected to follow him by the end of the week. Zubimendi will be a much more expensive signing than the £5m Kepa and £10m Norgaard, with his deal setting Arsenal back more than £50m. Celtic eye further signings as Brendan Rodgers bids to ‘refresh' squad

The Hoops have added four new faces so far in the shape of goalkeeper Ross Doohan, Kieran Tierney, Callum Osmand and Benjamin Nygren. The manager intends to replenish his squad further, with four-and-a-half weeks to go until the league campaign begins at home to St Mirren and seven weeks to finalise preparations for their Champions League play-off first leg. Rodgers explained the fact Celtic do not automatically qualify for the main phase of the Champions League means they are 'trying to get to the end point that little bit quicker because it's something that's very, very important to us'. 📰 Brendan Rodgers: Being back at Lennoxtown gets us excited for the season ahead 💬 "Pre-season is always a tense and difficult period when you're one of the big clubs because there are no pre-season friendlies."#ReturningChampions | #SummerOfCeltic | #CelticFC🍀 — Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) July 2, 2025 'We're not needing a major overhaul of the squad, but freshness is so important,' Rodgers said in an interview with Celtic TV. 'Some of these guys have been here a long time. 'It's so important, even in a winning squad, that you refresh that and reset the competition in the squad. We've done some really good business up until now. I see us doing more to get us set up for hopefully what will be a really exciting season.' Tierney and Nygren are Celtic's two main signings so far, with Doohan set to be a back-up keeper and 19-year-old striker Osmand to be assessed in pre-season before the club 'decide what his development needs to look like'. Rodgers reported Tierney is delighted to be returning to his boyhood club following six years at Arsenal. Kieran Tierney is back at Celtic after six years at Arsenal (Mike Egerton/PA) 'Sometimes top players like that might come back later on in their career, but we're getting Kieran at 27 years of age,' said the manager. 'I was with him during the summer so I know first hand as well how excited he is to be here and I'm looking forward to seeing this new version of Kieran, having had the experience in the Premier League and playing at a top club like Arsenal. 'He'll come back here with greater maturity both as a person, as a professional and tactically and now we can really get the benefits of that.' Rodgers is enthused about the arrival of 23-year-old Sweden forward Nygren from Nordsjaelland. 'I was in contact with a friend of mine there (the assistant coach at Nordsjaelland) who was a top midfield player, Michael Essien, and he spoke really, really highly of Benjamin,' said the manager. Greg Taylor sealed his move to PAOK this week (Jane Barlow/PA) 'From speaking to him and seeing him play, he's a leader on the pitch and he produces on the pitch in terms of his goals he scores, what he creates and he's got real good physicality. I'm really looking forward to seeing him adapt to how we play.' Rodgers wished Greg Taylor well after the left-back declined the chance to extend his six-year stay at Celtic and instead joined Greek club PAOK. 'I spoke to Greg over the summer, he rang me to tell me what his final decision was going to be,' said Rodgers. 'I've made it clear all the way along I'd love to have kept Greg, a brilliant servant, a brilliant player for the club but also a really good guy off the pitch. 'Really well loved in the changing room and he played for us really big on the pitch. Six great years, he won titles and leaves with the goodwill of everyone and I hope the move really works out well for him.'
