‘I am extremely sad': celebrities react to the end of Stephen Colbert's Late Show
The late-night comedy show has been on CBS for 33 years and the news arrived just days after Colbert called out the network's parent company Paramount for settling a 'frivolous' lawsuit with Donald Trump for $16m. Paramount is seeking approval for a $8.4bn merger with Skydance, a company ran by David Ellison, son of close Trump ally Larry Ellison.
Colbert called it a 'big fat bribe' earlier this week and later announced to his audience that the show would be ending next year. 'Let me tell you, it is a fantastic job,' he said. 'I wish someone else was getting it. And it is a job I am looking forward to doing with this usual gang of idiots for another 10 months.'
The Late Show received an Emmy nomination earlier this week for talk series.
'Sorry to hear @CBS is canceling one of the best shows they have,' actor and director Ben Stiller wrote on X. 'Wishing all the people who work so hard on that show all the best.'
His Severance colleague Adam Scott also shared his sentiment. 'Love you Stephen,' he wrote. 'This is absolute bullshit and I for one am looking forward to the next 10 months of shows.'
Writer and director Judd Apatow also wrote in response to Colbert's Instagram post: 'My admiration and appreciation for you is bottomless. Excited to see what other brilliance you put into the world.'
Broadcast journalist Katie Couric added: 'I am so upset about this. I need more information.'
West Side Story and Evita actor Rachel Zegler wrote: 'i am extremely sad. i adore you, stephen.'
Grammy-winning musician Jon Batiste, who used to lead Colbert's band on the show, called him 'the greatest to ever do it' on Instagram.
Actor John Cusack shared a clip of Colbert on social media and wrote: 'He's not groveling enough to American fascism - Larry Ellison needs his tax cuts -- doesn't need comedians reminding people they are not cattle.'
TV personality Andy Cohen, who hosts late-night show Watch What Happens Live, called it 'a sad day' both for late-night television and for CBS. 'I'm stunned,' he said to Deadline. 'He's one of three late-night shows deemed worthy enough for an Emmy nomination. He produces a brilliant show.'
Colbert's late-night rival Jimmy Kimmel also weighed in, sharing his frustration with the decision. In an Instagram story poking fun at the network's much-ridiculed comedy shows, he wrote: 'Love you, Stephen. Fuck you and all your Sheldons, CBS.'
Trump has already taken to Truth Social for a victory lap, writing: 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.'

Soap icon Eileen Fulton dies at age of 91 as family confirm sad death
Actress Eileen Fulton has sadly died at the age of 91. The iconic star was best known for her work as the first bad girl of daytime television for her role as Lisa Miller in As the World Turns. Eileen sadly passed away on 14 July in Asheville, North Carolina, at the age of 91 following a period of declining health, her family confirmed on the Groce Funeral Home website, sharing that her funeral service will be held on August 9. Eileen first appeared in As the World Turns in May 1960, remaining in the cast until the CBS show went off air in September 2010. Her 50-year stint on the series made her one of the longest-starring soap actors in US TV history, despite the role initially being created as a short-term character. Eileen - whose real name was Margaret Elizabeth McLarty - was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame in 1998 and received a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Eileen was raised in Asheville and moved to New York to pursue an acting career after graduating from Greensboro College with a music degree in 1956. While in NYC she studied with famed acting coaches Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg at the Neighborhood Playhouse, as well as dance teacher Martha Graham, and her feature debut came in 1960 in Girl of the Night. Eileen was also a writer and singer and performed a cabaret act for years in venues in both New York and Los Angeles. At one point during her time on As the World Turns - which was then broadcast live - she was also appearing on Broadway in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf and in off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks. She co-wrote her first autobiography, How My World Turns, in 1970 and jointly wrote her second, As My World Still Turns, 25 years later. Eileen also wrote a series of murder-mystery books and a novel titled Soap Opera. She retired in 2019 and moved back to North Carolina. Eileen is survived by her brother, Charles Furman McLarty, niece Katherine Morris and their children, and her sister-in-law Chris Page McLarty. Instead of flowers, Eileen's family has asked for donations to be made to the Reverend James B. McLarty Music Scholarship, or the Margaret Glenn McLarty '28 and Eileen Fulton Music Scholarship Fund.

Jelly Roll shows off weight loss as he guest hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Jelly Roll displayed his slimmer figure when he guest hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! for two nights this week. The star, 40, filled in for the late-night talk show host and debuted his slimmest look yet after losing 200lb. He wore all black for the gig, adding a gold chain to his look. Jelly poked fun at himself on Thursday's episode, treating fans to a parody song made up of insults hurled at him on the Internet. He said: 'I've never been the one to let my haters get me down. So tonight I'm going to debut my brand new single, and this entire song is going to be made up of comments that people have written about me online. Y'all want to hear it?' Some of the digs that made up the song included: 'Being forced to listen to Jelly Roll against my will and it sucks,' 'I used to hate Jelly Roll. I still do,' and 'Jelly Roll looks like a meth addict grabbed a microphone.' The good-humored entertained also quoted a social media snub that said, 'Jelly Roll slimmed the f*** up, lookin' more like a Fruit Roll-Up.' 'I wanna be on the cover of Men's Health by March of 2026. That's my new goal,' he announced five months ago. 'I wanna have one of the biggest transformations.' He added that he was 'so glad' to be having the discussion in front of an audience. 'I did this publicly for a reason. I wanna be honest about my struggles with it with people,' he noted. The musician explained about body image and fame: 'I think that people that become as big as I became, when they lose the weight, they're kind of ashamed. 'They're so ashamed that they go hide and lose the weight, and then they come back out [and] they don't really know how to interact with the world looking different or feeling different, and they kinda gotta find their whole new way. 'I wanted to lose it in front of everybody. I wanted to talk about it.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jelly Roll (@jellyroll615) Jelly added about losing weight in the spotlight: 'I wanna bring people along with me…I didn't become successful because of my weight. I became successful in spite of it.' He also acknowledged, 'I somehow managed to be this successful with carrying 550 pounds. That's insane.'

Kelly Clarkson joined onstage by daughter River Rose, 11, for song during Vegas show
Kelly Clarkson's daughter, River Rose, joined the star on stage for a surprise performance during her Las Vegas residency on Friday. The 43-year-old singer and the 11-year-old thrilled fans while performing a duet at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The sweet mother-daughter duo sang Clarkson's 'Heartbeat Song' while wearing matching bedazzled t-shirts and bell bottom pants in a video shared on X. Kelly and River were seen swaying together while holding microphones. At one point the proud mom hugged her daughter, whom she shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, 48. The pair also had a son Remington Alexander Blackstock, nine. The fan who posted the clip revealed that Clarkson told the audience before the duet: 'So my daughter River Rose said to me, "I wanna sing tonight!"' Clarkson and her daughter previously performed the song together during a Las Vegas concert in August 2023. At the time the singer noted that River had been 'jamming out to the song since she was a baby.' She added that her daughter 'loves this song so much.' The performer announced her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace earlier this year in February. It came after she hosted a residency at Planet Hollywood Resort from 2023-2024. This year's residency had been slated to kick off on Fourth of July followed by another performance the next day. Clarkson officially kicked off her much-awaited Vegas residency last Friday - just one week after angering fans by canceling shows last minute. Along with performing hits for the crowd, the star also apologized for canceling the opening two shows of her residency. In a TikTok video taken by a concertgoer, Clarkson expressed, 'Man, I'm so sorry if some of y'all had [tickets to] last weekend's shows. 'I'm so sorry. We can't help our bodies sometimes, and that happens, but thank you for showing up. We're so excited.'
