UK intelligence analyses Russia's April advance in Ukraine

Details: UK intelligence noted that Russia's Ground Forces have likely taken control of around 200 square kilometres of Ukrainian territory in April, averaging approximately 6 square kilometres per day.
This represents a slight increase compared to March, when Russia seized 150 square kilometres—the lowest monthly figure since June 2024, according to UK intelligence.

UK Defence Intelligence also pointed out that Russian forces made tactical gains around the town of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast in April.
"Pokrovsk has likely remained the priority axis for Russia in its campaign but it has been unable to make any notable advances around the city since late 2024," the update says.

UK intelligence further reported that, while Russia celebrates Victory Day on 9 May, Ukrainian troops are continuing limited combat operations in Kursk Oblast, marking the first time since World War II that foreign troops have operated on Russian soil. [Victory Day is a Russian holiday commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, celebrated on 9 May – ed.]

Auterion says it will provide Ukraine with 33,000 AI drone guidance kits
KYIV (Reuters) -U.S. defence company Auterion will provide 33,000 artificial intelligence guidance kits for Ukrainian drones, funded by a $50 million Pentagon contract, it said on Monday. According to the company, the kits enable manually-piloted strike drones to autonomously track and hit targets up to a kilometre (0.62 mile) away. Kyiv, which says it will purchase 4.5 million small First Person View drones throughout 2025, has been seeking ways to make them immune to the increasingly dense signal jamming deployed by both Ukraine and Russia. Drones that use artificial intelligence to lock onto the shape of a target for the final part of a drone's flight are one of several solutions being deployed. "We have previously shipped thousands of our AI strike systems to Ukraine, but this new deployment increases our support more than tenfold," Auterion CEO Lorenz Meier was quoted as saying in a company press release. EU-sanctioned Indian refiner Nayara takes Microsoft to court over outage
By Nidhi Verma NEW DELHI (Reuters) -Russia-backed Indian refiner Nayara Energy Monday said it has started legal proceedings against Microsoft following the abrupt and unilateral suspension of critical services by the U.S.-headquartered software giant. "Microsoft is currently restricting Nayara Energy's access to its own data, proprietary tools, and products—despite these being acquired under fully paid-up licenses," the refiner said in a statement. Nayara, a major buyer of Russian oil, was recently sanctioned by the European Union as the refinery is majority-owned by Russian entities, including oil major Rosneft. Microsoft last Tuesday halted services for Nayara Energy, sources familiar with the matter said, adding that the company's employees' Outlook email accounts and Teams have not been working. Microsoft declined to comment on the issue. Nayara Energy has filed a petition before Delhi High Court seeking an interim injunction and resumption of services to safeguard its rights and ensure continued access to essential digital infrastructure, the company said. It said Microsoft had not consulted the company before withdrawing the services. "This action has been taken unilaterally, without prior notice, consultation or recourse, and under the guise of compliance," it said. Since the imposition of EU sanctions against Nayara, at least two tankers skipped loading refined products from Vadinar and one crude tanker carrying Russian Urals was diverted.
