Two men have been charged with murder as part of a criminal gang after a 27-year-old bride was shot dead at a wedding party in southeastern France, prosecutors said.
Gunmen opened fire last Sunday at a wedding celebration in Goult, a hilltop village overlooking lavender fields, in what sources said might have been drug-related score settling.
Four masked men shot at several guests, including the newlyweds and the bride's 13-year-old nephew, in a car park outside the village hall, Marseille prosecutor Nicolas Bessone said late Thursday.
"The assailants opened fire, fatally wounding the bride, who was hit several times near the carotid artery," Bessone said.
"The shots also hit the groom, who had several wounds in the upper body," he said, adding that the boy had a lung injury and was initially in critical condition.
The groom's sister was also hit in the shoulder.
One of the attackers was killed. He was "shot in the back and head" and also "hit by a vehicle during the attack," said the prosecutor.

His three accomplices fled on foot. Two of them were detained in a nearby town several hours later and the fourth is on the run.
Le Figaro reported that the suspects were also linked to a second shooting the same day in the nearby city of Avignon, where a man was shot dead and another injured near the a shopping center.
After 96 hours in police custody, the two suspects appeared before a magistrate on Thursday and charged with murder and attempted murder as part of an organized gang. They have been remanded in custody.
The Marseille public prosecutor did not specify their motives. But a source close to the case said the 25-year-old groom was known to police for drug and organized crime offences.
The violence might be linked to possible drug-related score-settling, said another source.
As of 2022, Goult had a population of just over 1,000 people. The village is located in southeast France, about 50 miles north of Marseille, a port city that has been shaken by drug-related killings in recent years.
The French government has recently vowed to intensify the fight against narcotics and drug-related crime.

The personal tragedy that defined Long Island Rep. Carolyn McCarthy's legacy

Former Long Island Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who died last week, built a legacy on gun-control advocacy — after her husband was killed and son gravely wounded in the 1993 LIRR Massacre. McCarthy, who died Thursday at age 81, instantly became a grieving face of the gun crisis — and eventually entered politics over the issue — after 35-year-old madman Colin Ferguson launched his murderous spree aboard a train during the evening rush, killing six people and wounding 19 others. 'I always worried about who will speak for the victims,' said McCarthy, a former nurse, shortly before retiring from the House in 2015 after a nearly 20-year stint that earned her the nickname 'the gun lady.' Advertisement The train car's aisles became 'literally littered with bodies' as bullets tore through it, said survivor Tom McDermott, who took a shot to his left shoulder. Commuter Joseph Giugliano remembered watching in horror as the gunman drew closer, killing the woman sitting next to him as she tried to crawl away. 11 On Dec. 7, 1993, Colin Ferguson launched his murderous spree aboard a train during the evening rush, killing six people and wounding 19 others in the 1993 LIRR Massacre. 'Before you know it, she looked up, and he was maybe 8 to 10 feet away, and he pointed and shot her, shot her in the head,' Giugliano said. Her head exploded right next to me. … It was horrible. Syrian teen charged in failed terror attack on Taylor Swift concert

A Syrian teen has been charged with helping to try to carry out a bloodbath bomb attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna last summer, according to authorities. The juvenile suspect, only identified as 'Mohammad A,' aided a fellow extremist by translating Arabic bomb-making instructions and hooking him up with an online Islamic State militia contact to plan the would-be terror attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, German prosecutors alleged Friday. 'Mohammad A has adhered to the ideology of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) since April 2024 at the latest,' a statement from the prosecutor general said. Getty Images for TAS Rights Management From mid-July to August 2024, the Syrian teen allegedly coordinated with a young Austrian suspect who was planning to unleash chaos at one of Swift's massive 'Eras Tour' concerts before the plot was foiled. Police have already made multiple arrests tied to the suspected terror cell. Three men, ages 19, 18, and 17, were previously taken into custody in Vienna. Advertisement News of the thwarted attack prompted the cancellation of Swift's three sold-out Eras shows in the city starting Aug. 8, 2024. APA/AFP via Getty Images The suspects had planned to drive a bomb-filled car into the crowd outside the venue to kill 'as many people as possible' and had reportedly just been hired by the venue to work security. They allegedly wanted to also attack fans with machetes, security officials previously said. Advertisement Authorities believed the teens were radicalized online. Austria's coalition government agreed on a plan earlier this month to enable police to monitor suspects' secure messaging to thwart future planned militant attacks, ending what security officials have said is a rare and dangerous blind spot for a European Union country. Mohammad A's exact age has not yet been released. With Post wires
