Bill Murray regrets turning down Clint Eastwood collaboration

Yahoo27-03-2025
Bill Murray regrets turning down the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood.
During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show this week, the Ghostbuster star revealed that he once called the famed actor-director "out of the blue" about working together because he felt Eastwood always gave his on-screen sidekicks "a great part" and "a great death scene".
However, Eastwood was working on an "enormous" Navy idea, but Murray didn't want to do another military movie after making the 1981 Army-based film Stripes.
"When he said, 'Would you ever want to do another service comedy?' like jeez, 'Would I become like (comedy duo) Abbott and Costello?'" Murray quipped. "I had to do like military movies? And I said, 'Well, God, I guess maybe I shouldn't.'"
The Groundhog Day star later came to regret his decision.
"It's one of the few regrets I have is that I didn't do it. Because it was a big-scale thing, and I would have gotten a great - I don't know if I'd have gotten a great death scene, it was more of a comedy that one - but it was great," he admitted. "He had access to World War II boats and he could have like made a flotilla and stuff, and there was some cool stuff in it."
While the "very resilient" Eastwood is "certainly well over" Murray turning down his film, the 74-year-old still feels bad about it.
"When I see him, I'm like, 'I'm sorry, I wish I'd done that Clint, I'm really sorry,'" he shared.
While Murray did not state the film, it is most likely the 1986 war comedy Heartbreak Ridge, which Eastwood directed and starred in as a U.S. Marine.

Chad Michael Murray on sharing 'Freakier Friday' with his kids, acting and more

Chad Michael Murray is stepping back into Jake's world in " Freakier Friday." The actor, who played Lindsay Lohan's love interest in the 2003 hit film, "Freaky Friday," returns in the sequel as the heartthrob many remember and love. At the "Freakier Friday" premiere in Hollywood on Tuesday, Murray shared his excitement for the film and called it "incredible." "It's so good," he said. "It might even be better than the first one. It's that good." While he couldn't give much away about what Jake has been up to, Murray's character appears in the trailer on his motorcycle and with Lohan's character, Anna Coleman, in a record shop. Murray teased, "For Jake in particular, I think we're going to be excited to see what he's been pining over for the past 22 years." The actor appeared in many popular teen films and shows of the early 2000s. Following "Freaky Friday," he starred alongside Hilary Duff in the 2004 film "A Cinderella Story," as her love interest, Austin Ames. Murray also played Lucas Scott in " One Tree Hill" from 2003 to 2012, and appeared in "Gilmore Girls," "Dawson's Creek" and more. When asked about what he remembers most about his early days as an actor, Murray said he feels "unbelievable gratitude." "You're so excited, you can't keep yourself composed," he recalled. "You think you made it even though you know you didn't. The fear of failure because you're worried you're gonna go out there and do it wrong, and then how long will it take before they figure out that you can't really do it." He continued, "There's so many feelings, but at the end of the day, I always remember, I always try to remind myself why I became an actor. " "I became an actor because I wanted to go make film and television that would entertain people," he said. "I wanted to get people that moment to step away from whatever was going on in their life and give them that departure." He added, "So I remember that and I smile and I remember my dad's words. My dad always just said, 'Just have fun with it, whatever you're doing, just have fun.'" Murray celebrated the "Freakier Friday" premiere with his family. The actor was all smiles as he shared his carpet moment with his wife, Sarah Roemer, and their son and daughter, who they welcomed in 2015 and 2017, respectively. Absent was their youngest daughter, who they welcomed in 2023. He said that his oldest daughter got a sneak peek of "Freakier Friday" and that she "loves this film." "For the first time ever, we brought them kind of out," he said about his kids' first red carpet moment. "They really wanted to go. They really wanted to be a part of it. I think that this is the perfect place for them to be able to come and witness the lightness and the beauty that can be this industry if you bring light, joy and your goal is to bring smiles and happiness." "That's what this movie's about," he added. Along with Murray and Lohan, the film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons. The upcoming film, directed by Nisha Ganatra, features Lohan and Curtis switching bodies again. This time, Anna now has a daughter of her own, along with a soon-to-be stepdaughter. "Freakier Friday" arrives in theaters on Aug. 8, 2025.

Belly Finally Got an Engagement Ring on 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'—And You Can Shop It Now

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. If you were surprised that Jeremiah Fisher proposed to Belly Conklin without a ring—and without kneeling!—in the season 3 premiere of The Summer I Turned Pretty, then let the newest episode make up for that. In this week's chapter of the Prime Video series, Jeremiah finally gets down on one knee and asks for Belly's hand in marriage with a proper diamond. The ring in question is The Diamond Fizz Ring from Catbird. It's a sweet and delicate piece that fits Belly's youthful, summery style, consisting of a yellow gold band and a round white diamond. This just marks one of the many ways the Brooklyn-based jeweler teamed up with TSITP for its third and final season. The brand and the show also collaborated on a seven-piece collection inspired by Belly's story and summery themes, from infinity-shaped rings (if you know, you know) to seashell charms. Below, Catbird's chief creative officer Leigh Batnick Plessner spills all the details on Belly's new bling. First, let's lay out the stats: The Fizz Ring is made of 100-percent recycled, solid 14K yellow gold with a band measuring about .80mm. As for the stone, it's a 3mm-round, .089-carat recycled white diamond with a brilliant cut. The piece currently retails online and in stores for $289. A petite version is priced at $168. The Catbird team primarily works with 14K gold, and this ring is only offered in that material because of its size. Silver would've been 'too delicate,' Plessner tells ELLE, 'and we really want it to stand the test of time.' Which is exactly what you want in an engagement ring. Plessner loves seeing how different people style the piece, whether that means wearing it on different fingers or stacking it with other pieces. 'The diamond is slightly lifted so it can fit in with other rings [when stacked],' she says. (That might even include Belly's future wedding band.) The ring was not custom-designed for the series, but instead pulled from Catbird's Fizz collection, which is made entirely with recycled brilliant cut diamonds and solid 14K gold. It first debuted 'as we were emerging from COVID,' Plessner recalls. The name 'fizz' was meant to evoke 'a little bit of effervescence, and it felt so good to be out and about,' she says. The design is intended for both everyday use and for engagements. 'It felt equally perfect to me when they pulled that ring,' Plessner says of the TSITP team. 'Something that we always think about with our jewelry is this idea of how different people wear it, how it can shape-shift to suit your style, both in the moment and over time,' Plessner explains. 'Or this idea of maybe one day a child finding a ring in their parents' jewelry box and fitting it into their lives. So I think it suits young love because it's so wearable and it can grow with you over time, and it can always suit whatever evolution of your personal style you might be in.' Belly is 20 years old and a junior in college when she gets engaged, which means a ring like this can still match her style as she grows and evolves through the years. The linkup began when Plessner received a personal Instagram DM from Carol Lim, a co-founder of Opening Ceremony and a close friend of Jenny Han, the author and showrunner of The Summer I Turned Pretty. 'She's obviously iconic New York retail royalty,' she recalls. When meeting with Lim, 'we started to talk about the idea of a collection and a collaboration, and we have some really massive Summer I Turned Pretty fans on our team as well, so everyone was really excited,' she says. And while the series might seem to cater to a younger audience (we adult women who binge the show after work beg to differ), there's something universal about its romantic and summery appeal. 'Everybody has a relationship with summer, but this idea of this pocket of time when the beach is so special—that feels really connected to an East Coast summer experience I'm so familiar with,' Plessner says. Belly's ring captures a rising ethos around engagement rings rather than a specific trending design. The Fizz Ring, like many of Catbird's offerings, can be described as 'jewelry that makes you feel more like yourself,' according to Plessner. 'In that sense, it's really reflective of a moment where people really feel free to pursue their path.' Belly knows how to do exactly that. As Lola Tung, the actress behind the character, recently told ELLE, she knows what she wants, even if that means facing criticism for getting married at a young age. 'She knows she's young, but she's also quite stubborn and is making decisions for herself,' Tung said. 'She's like, 'I need to do what I need to do for myself to protect myself, and to feel safe, and to feel like I am in control of my story and my life.''
