Aberdein Considine swap suits for sportswear in mammoth charity effort

Team members from throughout the firm, which has 21 offices and more than 450 staff across Scotland and the north of England, will undertake a variety of challenges in 2025, including long-distance bike rides, marathons and a talent show, as they raise money for the two charity partners.
The RAF improves the lives of children in socially deprived areas of Aberdeen through life-changing programmes that make a sustainable and measurable difference to their health and wellbeing.
Cash for Kids is dedicated to supporting children and young people across the UK affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those with additional needs.
Jacqueline Law, Managing Partner at Aberdein Considine, welcomed the decision to support the RAF and Cash for Kids as this year's charity partners and said the firm is ready to hit the ground running with a full programme of fundraising events.
She said: 'Aberdein Considine has a strong presence across Scotland, but we know that being part of a community is about so much more than just having an office on the high street. This is why we selected the Russell Anderson Foundation and Cash for Kids, two charities that support children and young people close to home and across the UK, as our 2025 charity partners.

'Our colleagues will be stepping out of their comfort zones to undertake a series of fundraising challenges, pushing themselves physically and mentally, to raise much-needed funds in support of our chosen charities and the vital work they do.'
Aberdein Considine's fundraising calendar kicked off last week as staff members took part in the Run Balmoral 10km.
Next on the agenda is a 12-hour continuous walk, run and cycle challenge in Edinburgh on Thursday 1 May as part of Cash for Kids Day.
Members of the team - including former Dons captain and 11-times Scotland player Russell Anderson himself, who is an independent financial planner with Aberdein Considine Wealth - will then join bp's Coast 2 Coast charity cycle from Dumbarton to Aberdeen, with staff also taking part in the Ellon Pedal Car Race, both in June 2025.
Later in the year, colleagues in the North-east will lace up their trainers to run the Loch Ness Marathon before employees from across the firm compete to receive a golden buzzer in the 'Aberdein Considine's Got Talent' competition in October.
The firm will also cheer on Robert Holland, Partner and Head of Employment Law at Aberdein Considine, as he and his son look to conquer their shared fear of heights to tackle the K2 base camp trek at the second-highest mountain on Earth, all in the name of raising money for charity.
Karayn Chisholm, Corporate Fundraiser for Cash for Kids, said: 'We are thrilled to have been chosen as a charity partner for 2025, and we're excited to work with such a dedicated and passionate team. The fundraising plans already in motion are both inspiring and ambitious, and we look forward to bringing them to life together.
'The support of Aberdein Considine will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in our local communities. With their help, we will be able to reach even more children and young people – helping them to feel supported, valued, and empowered to build brighter futures. We can't wait to see what we can achieve together.'
Russell Anderson Foundation Chief Executive, Graeme Burnett, said: 'We are eternally grateful to Aberdein Considine for selecting RAF as one of the company's charity partners for 2025 as we rely heavily on the generosity of organisations in order to deliver our programmes which are quite literally transforming the lives of youngsters in the most socially deprived areas of the city.'
Further events across the year will include a charity quiz and various runs across the North-east of Scotland.
Jacqueline Law continued: 'We have been blown away by the level of support shown across the firm for our previous charity partners, with members of our teams giving up countless hours to take part in events, challenges and activities for good causes, and this year will be no different.'
The firm also offers colleagues a day each year to take part in charitable work or volunteering, in whatever capacity they can, and encourages staff to use this day to give back to their local community.
She added: 'We are excited to continue our work with charities and community groups to ensure that we can help to create real and lasting change in the lives of people who need it the most."

William issues personal good luck message to Lionesses ahead of Euro 2025

William, who is patron of the Football Association, chatted with England head coach Sarina Wiegman and presented match jerseys to all 23 squad members at the St George's Park. The Prince of Wales poses with squad members at St George's Park (Darren Staples/PA Wire) In a brief personal address to the players, who begin their title defence with a group game against France in Zurich on Saturday, the prince said: 'I just want to say the best of luck to all of you. 'I have seen a few of you and said that to your faces. I know there is a good mixture of those who have been and done a few tournaments before and those whose first tournament it is.' William, who had earlier used a heat-press machine to put the finishing touches to striker Aggie Beever-Jones' number 19 jersey, said the players he had met during Monday's visit seemed 'very relaxed and very together and with it'. After Wiegman thanked the prince for his backing, William advised the team to 'go and enjoy yourselves'. The Prince of Wales hands over a shirt to Leah Williamson during the visit (Darren Staples/PA Wire) He told the players: 'I know there is a huge expectation on you now from your successes – that is good. 'I know how you are going to play – you are going to play with freedom, you are going to play with camaraderie and teamwork. 'I have been saying to a few of you, the men's team can definitely learn off your camaraderie and your team environment. 'You are brilliant together. You create a very unique unit… so hold on to that, treasure that, build on it because it's one of your greatest assets.' The Prince of Wales speaks to manager Sarina Wiegman as he meets players and coaching staff from the England Women's team (Darren Staples/PA) As well as being presented with replica shirts bearing the names of Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte, William watched football matches on an indoor pitch involving girls from local schools, including two in Birmingham, and chatted with those taking part. He also spoke with the England team's kit manager, Kevin Fanner, about their shared service in the RAF as he tried his hand at printing team shirts, watched by Beever-Jones, fellow forward Michelle Agyemang and defender Maya Le Tissier. William, who plans to travel to the tournament to support the team against the Netherlands, told the Lionesses they had inspired the young girls he had met and spoken with on the training field. 'You are the reason they have got into football,' he said. 'They are hugely inspired by what you have done – what you have created.' The Prince of Wales prints a number on a shirt as he meets players and coaching staff (Darren Staples/PA) Before his departure, the prince posed for a team photo outside the FA's training facility with the squad. Following the team photo, William asked England captain Leah Williamson about possible weather conditions in Switzerland and thanked staff for the gift of shirts for his children. After earlier being told that he had left a slight crease in the jersey he printed a name on, William joked of the gifts: 'Hopefully the letters are already on those ones.'

RAF chief chosen to lead British armed forces

The head of the RAF has been confirmed as the new chief of Britain's armed forces. The Ministry of Defence announced on Friday that Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton will take over as Chief of the Defence Staff from September. As the professional head of the UK military, he will be responsible for delivering the strategic defence review published earlier this month, and takes up his post as the Government seeks to boost defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by April 2027. The strategic defence review also introduced a new, more powerful role for the Chief of the Defence Staff, placing him in formal command of the other service chiefs for the first time as head of a new Military Strategic Headquarters. Sir Richard, an RAF engineering officer, has served as Chief of the Air Staff since 2023 and previously served as deputy chief of the defence staff between 2019 and 2022. A Cambridge engineering graduate, he joined the RAF as a university cadet in 1988 and went on to serve as a senior engineering officer, station commander of RAF Wittering, in Cambridgeshire, and in a number of staff posts. He is reported to have been chosen ahead of the current head of the army, former Guards officer and director of special forces General Sir Roly Walker. Sir Keir Starmer said Sir Richard had championed 'a culture of innovation and excellence' while head of the RAF, adding: 'I am certain he will make an exceptional leader of our armed forces as Chief of the Defence Staff. 'In such a rapidly changing global context, we need our armed forces to be more lethal, better integrated and equipped for the future as they keep our country safe, I know Rich will rise to that challenge.' The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the outgoing Chief of the Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, thanking him for his 'dedicated service and exceptional advice'. Sir Tony has been Chief of the Defence Staff since 2021. Sir Richard also paid tribute to his predecessor and said it was 'an honour' to be chosen as the new Chief of the Defence Staff. He added: 'I am acutely conscious of the dangers we face and the important role that the armed forces play in protecting the UK, our allies and our interests around the world. 'It will be an immense privilege to lead the outstanding people of our armed forces.'

Busy few months in store for North Wales cricketers

St Asaph's Ryan was certainly mighty in the latest spot of action for Wales National County (North), but it was the RAF who were able to soar to success. In the match played at Shifnal Cricket Club, the North Wales team lost out by 99 runs. Wales National County (North) were bowled out for 188, with Ryan hitting a brilliant 104 not out. This was in response to the RAF's 287 for seven. With the business end of the season still to come, the Wales NC North programme has enjoyed a productive summer to date; the first full season under head coach Chris Stead, who joined during the early stages of the 2024 season. Things began for the senior side with a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Staffordshire. The runs were very much shared about between Harrison Jones, pictured (72), Sam Aplin (54), Will Ryan (52) and Nat Scott (47) earlier this month as the North Wales side compiled 295 for four against Shropshire Seconds at Bomere Heath. Three wickets apiece from the returning Jason Foulkes and Matt Russell, plus a two for 27 haul from Jamie Grimshaw, contributed to restricting Shropshire to 224 all out. The seniors can look forward to plenty of action across the rest of the summer. A two-day trip to Northumberland will come on July 21 and 22 for T20 and 50-over encounters. Gwersyllt Park plays host to the clash versus Cumbria Seconds on July 15, while North Wales will take on the MCC at Northop Hall on August 24. Added to this, Wales National County (North) potentially have a game at home to Glamorgan Seconds, at St Asaph, on August 3. Further afield, Northop Hall's Jac Kennedy made his senior Wales National County debut against Wiltshire in the NCCA One Day Trophy, whilst Brymbo's Joe Norman did the same. This makes them the sixth and seventh North Walians to represent the senior team in the last four seasons, after Jason Foulkes, Will Ryan, Matt Ryan, Owen Reilly and Romano Franco. Kennedy remains very much in contention to feature in the NCCA three-day championship later this summer.
