Surprise Memorial Day deal slashes supreme $175 off Samsung's Galaxy S25 price
5G, Unlocked, 128GB Storage, 12GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor, 6.2-Inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X Display with 2340 x 1080 Pixel Resolution and 120Hz Refresh Rate Technology, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 Protection, 50 + 10 + 12MP Triple Rear-Facing Camera System, 12MP Front-Facing Camera, 4,000mAh Battery with 25W Wired and 15W Wireless Charging Support, Galaxy AI, Mint Color Buy at Amazon 5G, Unlocked, 256GB Storage, 12GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor, 6.2-Inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X Display with 2340 x 1080 Pixel Resolution and 120Hz Refresh Rate Technology, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 Protection, 50 + 10 + 12MP Triple Rear-Facing Camera System, 12MP Front-Facing Camera, 4,000mAh Battery with 25W Wired and 15W Wireless Charging Support, Galaxy AI, Silver Shadow and Mint Color Options Buy at Amazon
The most affordable S25 configuration normally costs $799.99, and if you hurry, you can slash a towering 22 percent off that list price in a single "Mint" colorway. The slightly more expensive 256 gig model, meanwhile, is available at 20 percent under its $859.99 regular price in both Mint and Silver Shadow hues, but you probably don't want to waste much time if you prefer one such unit either.
Previously, Amazon has only offered discounts of up to $125 on select non-Plus and non-Ultra Galaxy S25 models, mind you, so clearly, this is a deal to remember, take advantage of, and expect to see rehashed (but most likely not improved) during the e-commerce giant's Prime Day 2025 sales event later this summer. Considerably more compact than its costlier brothers, the 6.2-inch S25 proves that strong essences can still be kept in small bottles in this day and age, packing the same state-of-the-art Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (for Galaxy) processor as the S25 Plus and S25 Ultra. That 6.2-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X screen is just one of several features highlighted as key strengths rather than notable weaknesses in our in-depth Samsung Galaxy S25 review from a few months back, with the 12GB RAM count, 50 + 10 + 12MP triple rear-facing camera system, razor-thin 7.2mm profile, and super-premium metal-and-glass construction also shining bright against other top contenders for the title of best Android phone out there available at comparable prices right now.

Xiaomi 16 grabs a certification on its way to launch
The Xiaomi 16 has been rumored to launch in China by the end of September, right after Qualcomm unveils the chipset that will be powering it. The phone has now received the EEC certification, ahead of its global launch. It's unclear when that will take place - its predecessor was introduced to international markets this February at MWC, but if the Xiaomi 16 launches in China in September, waiting five months for it to make its global debut is stretching things quite a lot, so perhaps Xiaomi will change things this time around - it remains to be seen. The certification reveals the Xiaomi 16's model number for global markets, which is 25113PN0EG. The Chinese model will have a "C" at the end instead of the "G", while the Indian model - you guessed it - will end in "I". According to previous rumors and leaks, the Xiaomi 16 will have a massive 7,000 mAh battery, a 6.3" to 6.39" flat OLED display, and three 50 MP cameras on the rear (including a main with a 1/1.3" type sensor and a periscope telephoto). Meta poaches key AI executive from Apple
Apple is probably the one major tech firm that cannot afford to lose any one of its top AI executives. After all, the tech giant has failed to keep pace with the AI progress achieved by its rivals, such as Samsung, Meta, and Google. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, citing people with knowledge of this move, says that Apple is losing one of its engineers and the manager in charge of its AI foundation models (AFM) team. A foundation model is a large, general-purpose AI model that is trained to handle a wide range of tasks. Developers often start building a new AI model by using a foundation model instead of building a new AI model for each application from scratch. The Apple executive leaving the company is Ruoming Pang, who joined Apple from Alphabet in 2021. Pang is departing Apple and is heading for Meta to join its superintelligence team. These teams make sure that highly-intelligent AI systems are safe and beneficial to humanity. The people with knowledge of Pang's move to Meta say that he was offered a contract that will pay him tens of millions of dollars annually. And that wasn't the only new AI hire that Meta picked up today. OpenAI researcher Yuanzhi Li and Anton Bakhtin are also joining Meta. Bakhtin has been working at Anthropic PBC on Claude. The latter is a series of large language models (LLMs) created to be a helpful, honest, and harmless AI assistant. It does this to find a balance between capability and ethical considerations. While at Apple, Pang ran a team of 100 people. This team was responsible for Apple's LLM used for Apple Intelligence and other AI features available on Apple devices. Just last month, Apple announced that it is opening up these models to third-party-developers which should result in a number of new apps for iPhone and iPad users. Pang's team at Apple has had to deal with friction from some executives at Apple who want to use third-party models from OpenAI or Anthropic to power an improved version of Siri. It appears that a new version of Siri, something that Apple desperately needs, will use models developed by either the AFM team that Pang worked with, or third-party models. More members of Apple's AFM team are expected to leave Apple, especially with Meta paying engineers a lot more than Apple pays its engineers doing the same work. The AFM team at Apple will now be run by Zhifeng Chen. Craig Federighi, Apple's head of software engineering, and Mike Rockwell, who now leads engineering for Siri, are currently the ones planning Apple's AI strategy. Samsung Galaxy S25 FE to have a flagship display
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S25 FE will have a flagship display feature, unlike its predecessor from last year. According to a new report out of Samsung's home of South Korea, the company has decided to use a flexible OLED panel for the S25 FE. These are more expensive than rigid OLED panels, and thus are generally only used in flagship smartphones. Even though the S25 FE doesn't fit that bill, Samsung has apparently decided to give it this flagship feature in order to better help differentiate it from the likes of the Galaxy A series. The flexible OLED panels can be bent and thus allow for symmetrical bezels on all sides of the screen too, though it's unclear if Samsung will go this route. Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Anyway, it's an upgrade compared to the S24 FE, and based on previous rumors, there won't be many others. The Galaxy S25 FE could in fact be powered by the same Exynos 2400e SoC as its predecessor. The cameras will be identical too, with one notable exception - the upgraded selfie snapper.
