AIDWA convention seeks impartial probe into suspicious deaths in Dharmasthala
Demanding impartial probe into the suspicious deaths in and around Dharmasthala, the Dakshina Kannada District Convention of Akhila Bharata Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane on Sunday sought bringing murder cases of Padmalatha, Soujanya, Vedavalli, and Yamuna into the ambit of Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the government to investigate the Dharmasthala burial cases. The 9th convention of the sanghatane (All India Democratic Women's Association) also resolved to urge the government to operate the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses on all feasible routes across the district to extend the benefit of Shakti, free travel scheme, for women. It also resolved to curb communalism; a complete halt of appression against women and other issues. District president Jayanthi B. Shetty hoisted the flag followed by writer Sabitha Bannadi beating the drum for Sara Abubaker Vedike to mark the inauguration of the convention at Bishop Jathanna Auditorium in Balmatta. Ms. Bannadi delivered the keynote address at the convention in the presence of theatre artist Geetha Surathkal, sanghatane State secretary Devi, poet Chandrakala Nandavara, and others. Operate KSRTC buses Deliberating upon the introduction of more KSRTC buses, the convention noted that private buses have the monopoly on majority routes in Dakshina Kannada district. Though KSRTC services were available in rural areas, they offer limited services. The operation of KSRTC buses between taluks and the district headquarters Mangaluru, Moodbidri, Vitla, Mulky, Kadaba, etc., was very less. Even city services from Ullal to Mangaluru and Mulky to Mangaluru, were less, it noted. Consequently, women in Dakshina Kannada district were deprived of the free travel facility that was being availed by women in other parts of the State. The government, the corporation, and the district administration should look into the issue and take measures to operate more KSRTC buses, the convention added.

KSRTC adds new luxury buses on Mangaluru
MANGALURU: The Mangaluru division of KSRTC launched the new Volvo Multi-axle seater 2.0 and Ambari Utsav buses sanctioned by the govt on Sunday. Rajesh Shetty, Senior Divisional Controller of KSRTC Mangaluru Division, said that the division was sanctioned two Volvo Multi-axle seater 2.0 and three Ambari Utsav buses. The new buses will operate between Mangaluru and Bengaluru, via Puttur - Mysuru and Hassan routes. For the first time, the division introduced a day journey AC sleeper bus, which will start from Mangaluru at 1 pm to reach Bengaluru at 8 pm. An AC sleeper bus was also introduced on the Puttur – Sullia – Mysuru road, he said. The division, which started in 1982, has been operating 550 schedules with 595 vehicles covering an average of 2.17 lakh kms, providing services to 1.2 lakh passengers every day, he added. Speaking after flagging off the buses, MLC Ivan D'Souza said that the govt sanctioned additional luxury buses for the division, keeping in mind the convenience of passengers in the region. He said the implementation of Shakti schemes that offer free travel for women and other guarantee schemes helped Karnataka reach the number one position in terms of per capita income in the nation. When the govt transferred the scheme benefits directly to the people, it helped the state grow, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Watching Videos Can Boost Your Income TheDaddest Undo The MLC lauded the efforts of Mangaluru division officials for proactively submitting proposals and getting the same approved by the govt. 'People will get the benefits of govt schemes effectively only if officials work proactively. The division will also get electric buses soon. I have also drawn the attention of the govt to develop the Mangaluru division of the KSRTC during the last Legislature Session. There are ample opportunities for the division to expand its operations, including commercial activities. Bus stations in many cities have already been upgraded with high-tech facilities. However, we are lacking pace when it comes to development. I will raise the issue again in the next Legislature session to ensure that the bus station in Mangaluru is developed by providing high-tech facilities,' he said. Dakshina Kannada district Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority President Bharath Mundodi and others were present.

Bengaluru Traffic Police push for Wednesday WFH to tackle road congestion
Bengaluru traffic police have proposed a mid-week Work From Home (WFH) initiative to address the city's chronic traffic congestion, particularly along the heavily burdened Outer Ring Road (ORR). The news, first reported by local media outlet B engaluru Mirror earlier this week, states that the plan aims to reduce peak-hour gridlock in the city's IT corridor by encouraging tech firms to allow employees to work remotely every Wednesday. The proposal is part of a broader set of traffic decongestion measures developed jointly by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), and representatives from the IT industry. Combating peak hour traffic: Staggered shifts, shuttle services The plan also calls for staggered office hours and greater reliance on organised shuttle services. Officials say the measures are aimed squarely at easing the morning choke between 9:00 and 10:00 am, when traffic on ORR slows to a crawl and often brings movement to a standstill. Joint Commissioner of Traffic, Karthik Reddy, said companies have been advised to start shifts as early as 7:30 am and schedule internal meetings with commuting times in mind. The city is also asking firms to take more responsibility for employee transport by deploying shuttles and coordinating with BMTC, which has committed to expanding its fleet of air-conditioned buses serving the tech corridor. Roadwork, illegal parking puts tech corridor under pressure The push comes at a time when the city's infrastructure is under immense strain. Several stretches of ORR are still undergoing delayed roadworks, and narrow junctions continue to be clogged by illegal parking and poor lane discipline. To address this, police are implementing a zero-tolerance policy on parking violations near tech parks and junctions, with immediate towing now in effect. Companies have been asked to assist with enforcement by deploying traffic marshals and volunteers. IT industry's take on Bengaluru traffic Representatives from Bengaluru's IT sector, including the Greater Bengaluru IT and Companies Association, have said they support the WFH plan, but only if it is enforced properly and communicated in advance. They also requested consideration for periodic Saturday WFH days to ease weekend congestion during events or infrastructure work. Other suggestions from the sector included: Mandatory staggered timings across companies Enhanced carpooling incentives Restrictions on heavy vehicles during rush hours What's causing major traffic jams in Bengaluru? According to a report by The Times of India, more than 300,000 new private vehicles were registered in the first six months of 2025 in Bengaluru, with June accounting for 49,620. The city already has more than 12.3 million registered vehicles. Bengaluru's traffic woes have also worsened further following the state-wide ban on bike taxis in June 2025. The ban, which eliminated a key last-mile commute option for thousands, has led to an 18–22 per cent spike in peak-hour congestion within a week, according to a report by Moneycontrol. With over 600,000 riders affected and commuters shifting to autos and cabs, road occupancy has surged. Authorities hope that the mid-week WFH model, combined with tighter enforcement and better coordination with employers, can buy time and breathing room until longer-term fixes—like metro expansion and road widening—catch up to the city's rapid growth.
