Algerian National Assembly cuts ties with French Senate over a Laayoune visit
The Algerian National Assembly (the first chamber of the Algerian parliament) announced in a statement, Wednesday, the immediate suspension of its relations with the French Senate, including the parliamentary cooperation protocol signed between the two councils on September 8, 2015, following the visit made by the President of the French Senate, Gérald Larcher, to Laayoune.
The council condemned this visit, stating that it «absolutely rejects it and considers it a blatant challenge and a clear bias, even in harmony with colonial policies and the hostile narratives of the Moroccan regime against international legitimacy and United Nations charters».
The Algerian National Assembly has condemned the recent visit of a French official, calling it «a recurring slip and a highly dangerous deviation, reflecting the rise of the French far-right and its dominance over the French political scene and decision-making».
The Assembly further stated that the visit is «an unacceptable and unsurprising act that disregards international legitimacy and strongly contradicts the decisions of the UN Security Council - of which this country is a permanent member - which are supposed to defend human rights and the right of colonized peoples to self-determination, not to attempt to undermine, erase, and deny them».
The Algerian National Assembly held France responsible for the consequences of this visit, which it described as «irresponsible, provocative, and ostentatious».
This decision by the Algerian parliament follows the Algerian Foreign Ministry's earlier condemnation of French Culture Minister Rachida Dati's visit to Laayoune, labeling it «dangerous» and «provocative».
Algerian-French relations have been strained since the French President's decision last July to recognize Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.
Algeria maintains in international forums that it is not a party to the conflict, asserting that the conflict is between Morocco and the Polisario Front. However, Algeria utilizes its diplomatic and financial resources to undermine Morocco's territorial integrity.
As of now, the Polisario Front has not issued any statement regarding Gérald Larcher's visit to Laayoune.

Morocco, Spain Strengthen Security Cooperation to Curb Irregular Migration to Ceuta
Rabat– In response to a sharp spike in irregular migration attempts toward Ceuta, Moroccan and Spanish authorities have significantly ramped up their joint security operations in recent days, according to El Mundo. The Spanish outlet reports that Morocco has deployed an unprecedented array of ground and maritime resources along its northern coastline, focusing on intercepting makeshift boats and preventing migrants—many of them unaccompanied minors—from reaching the Spanish enclave. This enhanced cooperation comes amid growing pressure on Ceuta's borders. Over the weekend, despite the tightened security measures, several migrants attempted to cross. Three youths reportedly reached Spanish territory briefly before being apprehended and swiftly returned to Morocco. Spanish Civil Guard sources cited by El Mundo highlighted the effectiveness of coordination with Morocco's Royal Gendarmerie, particularly at the maritime border near the Tarajal crossing point—Ceuta's primary entry zone. Since early Saturday, Moroccan authorities have deployed nine patrol boats to maintain 24/7 surveillance, a move credited with foiling all nighttime crossing attempts that day. In support of the joint effort, Spain's Interior Ministry dispatched a maritime vessel to strengthen the Civil Guard's presence in Ceuta. On Sunday morning, however, several youths exploited heavy fog to launch a new wave of sea crossings. While most were intercepted and turned back by Moroccan forces, approximately 50 minors and 30 adults reached Ceuta. They were immediately attended to by the Civil Guard before being handed back to Moroccan authorities after receiving first aid. This renewed migratory pressure reflects broader instability across the Western Mediterranean. As both nations work to avoid another border crisis, they remain committed to upholding bilateral agreements and enhancing real-time coordination to manage migration flows.

Morocco's Religious Model Under Royal Leadership Gains Grounds in Latin America
The Secretary General of the Latin American League of Religious Scholars, Sadiq Al-Othmani, praised Morocco's religious model of moderation, noting its expanding influence in Latin America as a bulwark against extremist rhetoric. Under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, this model has established itself as a benchmark well beyond Africa, reaching as far as Latin America, he explained. In an interview with MAP-Brasilia on the occasion of the Throne Day celebrations, Al-Othmani, who is also director of religious affairs for the Federation of Islamic Institutions in Brazil, emphasized that the Moroccan model is based on the Commandery of the Faithful, the Maliki rite, the Achaari doctrine, and Sunni Sufism. The Latin American official pointed out that these foundations have proven their resilience and adaptability to societal changes over centuries." In his view, this enables the Kingdom to remain deeply rooted in its heritage while addressing modern-day challenges through dialogue with diverse cultures. He underscored the pivotal role of the Commandery of the Faithful as the guardian of Morocco's religious foundations and the protector of its spiritual security. Notably, the Commandery of the Faithful signifies that the Head of State is entrusted with the stewardship of both the religious and worldly affairs of the nation. This institution, he noted, safeguards the independence of the religious sphere and shields it from exploitation. He also underscored the efforts of institutions such as the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams Morchidines and Morchidates, and the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulemas, which promote a moderate Islam grounded in scientific approach, both within Morocco and beyond its borders. First Lady Visit: El Salvador Seeks Stronger Ties with Morocco
Rabat – Morocco welcomed on Sunday the First Lady of El Salvador, Gabriela Rodrigues de Bukele, as the two countries explore ways to further enhance bilateral relations at all levels. Princess Lalla Asmae of Morocco welcomed Rodrigues De Bukele at the Rabat-Sale Airport upon her arrival. The visit comes as part of a shared determination from the two countries, which are committed to strengthening bilateral relations across all sectors. Bilateral ties experienced a momentum following the country's decision to withdraw recognition of the self-styled SADR run by Polisaio and controlled by Algeria in 2019. Earlier this month, Felix Ulloa, Vice President of El Salvador, renewed his country's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He also reiterated his country's steadfast support for Morocco's territorial integrity and for the Autonomy Plan as a serious, realistic, and credible political solution to the regional dispute. In June, the official said his country seeks to expand the areas of cooperation with Morocco, shedding light on his country's interest in building partnerships in several sectors such as fisheries and agriculture. In May, Felix Ulloa recalled the same position in a meeting with Moroccan officials in Quito, Ecuador, where they discussed the possibility of opening of El Salvador consulate in Laayoune. Layoune and Dakhla have been serving as hubs of the international community's support for Morocco's position. At least 30 countries from different regions across the world have opened consulates in Morocco's southern provinces to reflect their support for Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara. Dakhla hosts consulate representatives from several countries, including Haiti, Suriname, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cape Verde, Djibouti, and Burkina Faso. Laayoune, meanwhile, hosts Jordanian representatives, as well as consulates of Bahrain, UAE, Burundi, Central Africa Republic, Comores, Malawi, Zambia, Eswatini, Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, and Cote d'Ivoire.
