CMAT chants 'Free Palestine' during Glastonbury set
CMAT chanted "Free Palestine" and waded into the Pyramid Stage crowd, who were dancing in the midday heat, during her Glastonbury Festival set on Friday.
CMAT, real name Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, played songs from her back catalogue as well as new singles, including Take a Sexy Picture of Me, from her forthcoming third studio album, Euro-Country.
Plenty of festivalgoers could be seen doing the viral dance to the song, which has taken social media by storm in recent months.
Kicking off her set with Have Fun!, CMAT, who wore an all-purple ensemble with white boots, sang while lying flat on the floor before getting to her feet and shouting: "Glasto!"
CMAT, who blends pop and rock with folk and country influences, performed from her back catalogue, receiving rapturous applause while singing hits including I Don't Really Care for You.
The singer also encouraged fans to dance along to the "Dunboyne, County Meath two-step" while singing I Wanna Be a Cowboy, Baby!.
"I think we might be about to break a personal record for the very sexy CMAT band," she told crowds.
"We've never attempted it (the dance) with this many people, so I'm a little scared," she added.
Introducing herself, she said: "My name is CMAT and I'm literally just a young one from Dunboyne/Dublin, depending who you ask."
"This is the scariest moment of my life, but it will probably singlehandedly be the best and most amazing thing I'll ever do," she added.
Towards the end of her set, CMAT waded into the crowd to sing her popular song Stay for Something and chanted "Free Palestine" in reference to the ongoing war in Gaza.
CMAT released her debut album, If My Wife New I'd Be Dead, in 2022, and followed it up with the Mercury Prize-nominated Crazymad, for Me in 2023.

But those watching it were not impressed, with one person commenting: 'Someone tell Neil Young to sing into a microphone.' A second moaned: 'Sound needs turning up like ffs, he's shredding that axe and you can hardly hear it.' While a third said: 'Neil young with 48 microphones and none of them able to make his voice sound much beyond a grumble. Confirmed headliners: The 1975 will take to the Pyramid Stage on Friday. Neil Young will headline the festival for the second time after his last set in 2009 on Saturday after RAYE makes her return. Charli xcx will headline the Other Stage on Saturday night. On Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo is due to belt out her hits for her first appearance while Rod Stewart will perform in the legends slot. More acts to appear on the Other Stage include Loyle Carner and The Prodigy. Doechii will make her Glastonbury debut on the West Holts Stage on Saturday night. Other names confirmed include Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, Gracie Abrams, Busta Rhymes, Lola Young, Brandi Carlile, Myles Smith, En Vogue, Amaarae, Cymande, Shaboozey, Osees and Gary Numan.

Police assessing videos of Kneecap and Bob Vylan's Glastonbury performances
Police are assessing videos of comments made by acts Bob Vylan and Kneecap at Glastonbury to decide whether any offences may have been committed. Rapper Bobby Vylan, of rap punk duo Bob Vylan, led crowds on the festival's West Holts Stage in chants of: 'Free, free Palestine' and: 'Death, death to the IDF', before a member of Irish rap trio Kneecap suggested fans 'start a riot' outside his bandmate's upcoming court appearance. Bob Vylan also displayed pro-Palestinian images (Yui Mok/PA) In a post on social media, Avon and Somerset Police said: 'We are aware of the comments made by acts on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon. 'Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation.' They added: 'We strongly condemn the threatening comments made by Bob Vylan at Glastonbury. 'The Culture Secretary has spoken to the BBC Director General to seek an urgent explanation about what due diligence it carried out ahead of the Bob Vylan performance, and welcomes the decision not to re-broadcast it on BBC iPlayer.' There was a display of pro-Palestinian flags and t-shirts during Kneecap's set (Yui Mok/PA) A BBC spokesperson said: 'Some of the comments made during Bob Vylan's set were deeply offensive. During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language. We have no plans to make the performance available on demand.' Kneecap, who hail from Belfast, have been in the headlines after member Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence. In reference to his bandmate's upcoming court date, Naoise O Caireallain, who performs under the name Moglai Bap, said they would 'start a riot outside the courts', before clarifying: 'No riots just love and support, and support for Palestine.' During the performance Caireallain said: 'The Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play, so f*** Keir Starmer.' He also said a 'big thank you to the Eavis family' and said 'they stood strong' amid calls for the organisers to drop them from the line-up. O hAnnaidh, 27, wore a keffiyeh during the set, while member JJ O Dochartaigh, who performs under the name DJ Provai, wore his signature tri-coloured balaclava as well as a T-shirt that said: 'We are all Palestine Action', in reference to the soon-to-be banned campaign group. News broadcasts criticising the hip hop trio played from the sound system before they walked onto the stage were booed by the Glastonbury Festival audience. The trio opened with the song Better Way To Live from their 2024 album Fine Art and also performed tracks including Get Your Brits Out and Hood. Access to the area around the West Holts Stage was closed around 45 minutes before their performance after groups of fans arrived to form a sea of Irish and Palestinian flags. O hAnnaidh was charged with allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah, while saying 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah' at a gig in November last year. On June 18, the rapper was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates O Caireallain and O Dochartaigh at Westminster Magistrates' Court in Free Mo Chara T-shirts. He was released on unconditional bail until the next hearing at the same court on August 20.
