Doretto was conducting a private test session on Wednesday morning for the upcoming Rally Poland 'when he lost his life in an accident,' the ERC said in a statement late Wednesday. It added that co-driver Samuele Pellegrino was unhurt.

The Automobile Club of Italy said Doretto hit a tree while testing his Peugeot 208 car in northeastern Poland.

The 21-year-old Doretto was the Italian junior champion last year and was in his first season in the ERC. He was fourth in the junior standings.

Collision between trike and car closes Talbot Street for several hours
A collision between a three-wheeled motorcycle and closed Talbot Street in Leamington for several hours, leaving one driver with serious injuries. Emergency services responded at approximately 6:50 p.m., where Talbot Street as closed from Fraser Road to County Road 31. Both drivers were transported to hospital, one with serious injuries and the other as a precautionary.

Around 7 a.m., police responded to County Road 15 at 6th Concession Road in Harrow for reports of a two-vehicle crash involving an SUV. According to a police spokesperson, two people were taken to hospital, but the extent of their injuries is not known. There is no word on how the crash happened or if charges will be laid.
