However, at the same time, the industry remains fragmented with opportunities to strengthen collaboration and infrastructure.'
'Cloud 11 was born from a clear vision – to empower creators and drive the growth of Thailand's creative industry. More than just a property project, Cloud 11 is now emerging as the region's most comprehensive content hub. Today marks another important milestone for us as we officially announce partnerships with over 30 leading Thai and international organizations from various industries. These include renowned names in film and content production such as the New York Film Academy, CJ ENM, Unformat Studio, T&B Media Global, and Beartai; music and entertainment powerhouses like SM True, The Black Sea, 88rising, 1500 Sound Academy, Kantana Sound, and Cat Radio; as well as cultural and art institutions like Bangkok Kunsthalle and Documentary Club. 'Notably, the New York Film Academy - a world-renowned institution in acting, film, and creative media arts - and the globally respected 1500 Sound Academy will each launch their first academy in Southeast Asia at Cloud 11. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to bringing Thailand's film and music industries to the next level,' Mr. Paul added.
Mr. James Fauntleroy, the singer-songwriter who has won four Grammy Awards and a co-founder of 1500 Sound Academy, said about his institute's decision to partner with Cloud 11 that, ' People are at the heart of the creative industry, and creativity flows within everyone. The best place for artists is where their creativity is not only welcomed but also actively nurtured to reach its full potential. I believe Cloud 11's creative ecosystem will be a launchpad for the next generation, empowering young talents to become key forces in not just Thailand's but also the world's music scene. Here, creativity knows no limits. This collaboration is more than just the opening of an academy; it is the laying of long-term foundations for building the 'human capital' of the future.'
Mr. Michael Young, President and CEO of New York Film Academy, said about his institute's partnership with Cloud 11, which will host his institute's first training and workshop in Southeast Asia, 'The New York Film Academy is committed to making film education accessible to students around the world. We chose to launch our first academy in Southeast Asia at Cloud 11 because it not only offers world-class studios, modern equipment, and cutting-edge film technology, but also shares our vision of empowering the next generation of creators through access to meaningful learning and development opportunities. Ringgit rebounds to close higher on better-than-expected 2Q GDP forecast

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit rebounded from recent losses to end higher against the US dollar on Friday, supported by a better-than-expected forecast of Malaysia's second quarter growth, which signalled that the domestic economy remains resilient amid external uncertainties. At 6 pm, the local note rose to 4.2410/2455 from 4.2465/2510 at Thursday's close. Malaysia's economy is forecast to grow by 4.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q 2025) based on advance gross domestic product (GDP) estimates, slightly outpacing the previous quarter's 4.4 per cent. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the recent pre‑emptive overnight policy rate cut by Bank Negara Malaysia would likely support growth in the second half, especially as downside risks have increased. "The ringgit appeared to have gained some strength today, improving 0.13 per cent against the US dollar," he noted. Second quarter growth was driven by robust domestic demand, with the growth momentum sustained in April and May, with a stronger performance anticipated in June, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia's (DOSM) advance forecast today. At the close, the ringgit traded mostly easier against a basket of major currencies. It improved against the Japanese yen to 2.8517/8549 from 2.8548/8580 at yesterday's close, but eased versus the euro to 4.9336/9388 from 4.9217/9269 and retreated against the British pound to 5.6999/7060 from 5.6886/6946. The local note trended mostly higher against ASEAN currencies. It slipped against the Indonesian rupiah to 260.2/260.6 compared with yesterday's 259.8/260.2, fell against the Thai baht to 13.3027/3065 from 13.0521/0720 and traded down vis-à-vis the Singapore dollar to 3.3027/3065 from 3.3013/3051. It was traded almost flat versus the Philippine peso at 7.41/7.43 from 7.41/7.43. - Bernama

Cultivate rice to boost Sarawak's food security, Dr Rundi tells NCR landowners

Dr Rundi visits one of the booths during the expo. – Photo by Mohd Faisal Ahmad KOTA SAMARAHAN (July 18): Native Customary Rights (NCR) landowners are being urged to participate in rice cultivation initiatives – whether on a small or large scale – as part of efforts to strengthen food security and reduce the heavy reliance on oil palm plantations. Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, said currently, almost 83 per cent of land designated for commodities is being used for oil palm cultivation due to its established supply chain and lucrative returns. However, he cautioned that over-dependence on oil palm could jeopardise the state's food security, especially in times of crisis, such as war or disruptions in rice imports. 'We must always be prepared. That is why food security is important. Rice is our staple food. I urge farmers not to wait for large-scale projects. 'Even behind your homes, there may be one or two acres of land – use modern methods to plant rice for your own use. If there is a surplus, it can be sold,' he said. He made these remarks when officiating the Agriculture Mini Expo 2025 organised by the Sarawak State Farmers Organisation (PPNS), held at the PPNS Hall here today. Dr Rundi explained that rice cultivation can be done on a larger scale by mobilising villagers or longhouse communities to collectively work on their land and plant the same rice variety. 'If each person has three or four acres of land, when combined across an entire village or longhouse, it can amount to about 100 acres,' he said. Dr Rundi also called on farmers to go further by adopting teamwork and collaborative approaches, similar to those practised by farming communities in Thailand. According to him, Thai farmers have successfully developed agricultural products collectively without relying entirely on government assistance. 'Whatever they do – be it 'pandan' coconut, aquaculture, or others – they do it as a team. They would identify one product idea, and everyone in that area would produce it together. They don't depend on the government for support. 'This is in stark contrast to local farmers who tend to wait for assistance before initiating their own efforts. 'If we rely too heavily on aid, our spirit and commitment will never be as strong as those (in Thailand) who started on their own initiative,' he added. Commenting on the expo, which runs until tomorrow, Dr Rundi described it as a crucial event in exposing farmers to new technologies, smart farming methods, and market access. The expo brings together 45 exhibitors and features a variety of attractions such as local agricultural product exhibitions; modern farming demonstrations; knowledge-sharing sessions from agencies and successful entrepreneurs; sales of agro-food and rural products; and interactive community programmes. The farming community are encouraged to take advantage of the expo and support PPNS' ongoing commitment to improving the socioeconomic status of its members. The Agriculture Mini Expo 2025 is the first of its kind organised by PPNS, and is expected to open up more economic opportunities for agropreneurs, particularly in areas such as product development, access to financing, and market expansion. The programme is also expected to grow into an annual highlight and contribute significantly to the development of the state's agri-food sector. Among those present were Dr Rundi's deputy ministers Datuk Martin Ben and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail who is also PPNS chairman; Samarahan Division Resident Mohamad Irwan Bujang; District officer Ahmad Abdul Razak; Sarawak Agriculture Department director Dominic Chunggat; and PPNS general manager Gom Raway. Vietnam outlines new financial reforms in bid for emerging market status

HANOI: Vietnam is set to officially launch a central counterparty mechanism in early 2027 as part of its push to be reclassified as an emerging market as early as this year and attract more foreign investors, the State Securities Commission said. Vietnam has been on global index provider FTSE Russell's watchlist for an upgrade since 2018. It is currently classed as a frontier market, limiting the investment it can attract from funds, investors, and family offices in the nation's listed companies. An upgrade to emerging market status could rapidly channel US$5 billion into Vietnam's financial markets, according to World Bank estimates. The government released a four-phase plan running through 2027 to secure the upgrade during a visit to Hanoi by FTSE Russell's global head of equity and multi-asset, Gerald Toledano. The roadmap includes finalising the legal framework and establishing a Central Counterparty-operating subsidiary under the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation. In a meeting with Toledano late on Thursday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (pic) expressed his hope FTSE would support a classification upgrade for Vietnam, state-broadcaster Voice of Vietnam reported. Toledano highlighted Vietnam's strong liquidity, which he said surpassed regional peers Thailand and Singapore, VOV added. Vietnam's financial markets are small in comparison with regional peers. As of Thursday's close, the main benchmark stock index had a market valuation of around $245 billion, compared to around $455 billion for the main Thai index and around $490 billion for Singapore's STI Index, LSEG data showed. The CCP will act as an intermediary between buyers and sellers in the equity market, ensuring trades are honoured even if one party defaults. The country has already introduced other measures, such as a new transaction settlement system and the removal of a requirement for overseas investors to fully pre-fund equity trades, to address obstacles to its potential reclassification. Foreign investors have increased purchases of Vietnamese stocks following the announcement of a trade agreement between the United States and Vietnam. The benchmark VN-Index has risen 7.22% so far this month. FTSE Russell is set to release a review in September. If Vietnam secures the upgrade to secondary emerging market status, the reclassification process could take six to 12 months, consistent with the agency's procedural guidelines. Vietnam had previously targeted 2025 for achieving the upgrade. - Reuters
