Who is Devon Levi? Top Canadian goalie signs two-year NHL deal with Buffalo Sabres
Devon Levi signs two-year deal with Buffalo Sabres (Credit: Getty Images) The Buffalo Sabres just made a big move for their future by signing Devon Levi, one of Canada's most promising young goaltenders, to a two-year NHL contract worth $1.625 million. The 23-year-old restricted free agent is stepping up with hopes of becoming a long-term fixture in Buffalo's net. Sabres Sign Goaltender Devon Levi to 2-Year Contract Buffalo Sabres strengthen goalie lineup with Devon Levi signing Levi struggled in limited NHL action last season, going 2-7-0 with a 4.12 goals-against average (GAA) and a .872 save percentage in nine games, but found success in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Rochester Americans. There, he posted an impressive 25-13-4 record with a 2.20 GAA and .919 save percentage across 42 games, proving he's more than just a prospect. From Quebec streets to NHL spotlight: Devon Levi's early beginnings Devon Levi hails from Dollard-des-Ormeaux, a suburb of Montreal, Quebec. Starting with street hockey at age 4, Levi's passion grew quickly. By 14, he was the youngest player in the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League. A consistent academic performer, he was even valedictorian at West Island College. He also speaks both English and French and comes from a tech-savvy family; his parents run a software company. That all changed after a blockbuster trade in 2021, when Buffalo acquired him and a first-round pick in exchange for Sam Reinhart. With two Mike Richter Awards at Northeastern University and a record-breaking .952 save percentage in 2021–22, Levi became a name to remember. International ice and college glory: Devon Levi's standout moment Levi has been nothing short of spectacular on the international stage. He helped Team Canada earn a silver medal at the 2021 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, setting a save percentage record of .964, better than Carey Price's all-time best. He was also part of the gold-winning team at the 2023 IIHF World Championship and named to Team Canada for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Now signed and ready, Devon Levi is set to compete for a bigger role in Buffalo's goaltending rotation. With Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Eric Comrie already in the mix, the battle will be fierce. But if Levi's AHL numbers are any sign of what's to come, the Buffalo Sabres may have just secured their goaltender of the future. Bills RB James Cook on not practicing Sunday: "Business"
With his contract dispute ongoing, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook showed up for Sunday's mandatory practice but did not participate. Instead, the 25-year-old stood off to the side and spent a short amount of time on an exercise bike. HT Image After practice, when asked why he did not participate, Cook offered just three words: "Oh, nothing. Business." Sunday marked the first time Cook did not participate since requesting a contract extension during the offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler, who shared the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns last season, wants to become one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. Cook also was asked whether he was holding out or planning to suit up for Monday's practice. Again, Cook kept his response short: "Business." The Bills provided no comment on Cook, who is in the final year of his rookie contract. Cook -- who did not attend Buffalo's voluntary offseason team activities but did participate in the mandatory three-day minicamp as well as the first eight practices of training camp -- was not on the team's list of injured players leading up to Sunday's practice. Entering his fourth year in the league, Cook has put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. His 2,638 rushing yards are the most among his peers in the 2022 draft class. Yet he is not on the list of Bills' 2022 draftees -- wide receiver Khalil Shakir, linebacker Terrel Bernard and cornerback Christian Benford -- who have been rewarded with extensions. The Bills traded their first-round pick from that season, cornerback Kaiir Elam, to the Dallas Cowboys in March. "Sometimes you can't get on the same page or sometimes you're trying to fit it in," Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane told reporters at the start of camp. "There's times guys have left here that we really wanted. We just couldn't make it work. "But I can tell you, I'm hopeful, when we're sitting here at next year's training camp, that James Cook is out there practicing and still representing the red, white and blue." --FIeld Level Media

"You got to check those boxes' — Kendrick Perkins leaves Chris Paul out of his top 10 point guards list
Chris Paul is a promising player (Image via Instagram / @cp3) A prominent NBA analyst's list of the top ten guards in the league did not include Chris Paul, the recently acquired star of the Los Angeles Clippers. Even though ESPN's Kendrick Perkins, who played against the said player in the AAU and then the NBA, considers him to be the real "point god," he places him in his Top 15 rather than the top 10. Recently, the analyst opened up about the same thing. Kendrick Perkins explains why Chris Paul falls outside his top 10 point guards The Los Angeles Clippers ' Chris Paul is seen by most as one of the greatest point guards ever in NBA history. The 40-year-old is now close to the end of his career as he begins his 21st season in the league. Kendrick Perkins made one comparison apparent, but he didn't provide a comprehensive list of those who rate higher than CP3. He has a higher opinion of the former Oklahoma City Thunder player Russell Westbrook. He stated during the most recent podcast episode Road Trippin': "I don't have CP3 ranked above Russell Westbrook. Like CP3 does a lot of things, changes the franchise, win a lot of games and things? Yes, absolutely. I would never take that away from him. Since he was drafted by the Pelicans, he changed that franchise…' He continued: "He goes to the Clippers, winning organization. Goes to the Phoenix Suns, winning organization. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Making history: These 5 timepieces set world records at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025 CNA Read More Undo But when it comes to rankings, you got to check those boxes and you got to have the accolades. And when I say accolades, yes, championships and Finals MVP. But CP3 don't have one MVP." Originally broadcast on Basketball Network, Kendrick Perkins discussed why he does not consider Chris Paul to be one of the top ten point guards in NBA history: "I don't have him ranked above Russell Westbrook.' Chris Paul recently joined the L.A. Clippers (Image via Instagram / @cp3) He further stated that Russell Westbrook's triple-double record-breaking games and MVP run stand out. The Milwaukee Bucks came back with four straight victories after CP3 led the Phoenix Suns to within two games of the 2021 NBA championship. After winning Game 1, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder made it to the Finals in 2012 as well. However, it is not certain what additional accomplishments Kendrick Perkins wants for Chris Paul aside from a championship or a regular-season MVP. Meanwhile, the new L.A. Clippers' player will always be regarded as one of the NBA's most knowledgeable and significant point guards, regardless of this comment.
