Iran extends access to airspace for overflights after ceasefire - Region
Iran has expanded access to its airspace for international overflights following a ceasefire with Israel, though flight restrictions remain in place across much of the country, an official said Saturday.
"In addition to the eastern half of the country's airspace being available for domestic, international and overflight operations, the airspace over the central and western parts of the country has now also been opened only for international overflights," Majid Akhavan, spokesman for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, said in a statement carried by the IRNA state news agency.
Flights to and from airports in the north, south and west of the country, including Tehran's Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini international airports, remained suspended, according to Akhavan.
"All fellow citizens are requested not to go to airports located in the northern, southern and western regions of the country," he said, urging travellers to follow updates through official sources only.
The move comes after Iran reopened its eastern airspace on Wednesday, following a ceasefire that ended 12 days of fighting with Israel.
Iran had closed its skies entirely on June 13 after Israel launched a wave of airstrikes, prompting Iranian missile retaliation.
Airports now operating include Mashhad in eastern Iran -- which Israel claimed to have targeted during the conflict -- as well as Chabahar in the southeast.
Flights in other regions remain suspended until further notice.

Macron Urges Iran to Respect Ceasefire, Resume Nuclear Talks
Nada Mustafa French President Emmanuel Macron, in a phone call with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, stressed the importance of respecting the ceasefire as a crucial step toward restoring peace and returning to the negotiation table. In a post on the social media platform X, Macron stated: 'I held a phone conversation with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. I emphasized the need to respect the ceasefire and exercise maximum restraint in order to restore peace and resume negotiations.' Macron added that the discussion also touched on the release of French nationals Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, and the protection of property in Iran, which, he said, 'must not be subject to any threats.' He further highlighted the urgency of returning to negotiations to address ballistic and nuclear activities, underlining the importance of adhering to the ceasefire to help restore regional peace. Macron reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and called for the swift resumption of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) operations in Iran to ensure the necessary transparency. He concluded by stating that he would continue efforts in the coming days to achieve these goals. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Iran-Israel war opens 'new road' for Mideast: US envoy to Turkey - Region
The Iran-Israel war has opened the way to a "new road" for the Middle East in which Turkey will have a key role to play, Washington's envoy to Turkey said Sunday. "What just happened between Israel and Iran is an opportunity for all of us to say: 'Time out. Let's create a new road' (and) Turkiye is key in that new road," Ambassador Tom Barrack told the Anadolu state news agency. "The Middle East is ready to have a new dialogue, people are tired of the same old story," he said, saying it was essential for decades-long enmities to be reframed. Israel, he said, was "in the process of being redefined" and its regional neighbours needed to reach agreement with it. "(Syrian) President (Ahmed) al-Sharaa has indicated that he doesn't hate Israel and that he wants peace on that border. I think that will also happen with Lebanon. It's a necessity to have an agreement with Israel," he said. What is happening in Syria is "in big part due to Turkey" -- a key backer of the Islamist-led rebels who toppled Bashar al-Assad and now form the Damascus government -- and Turkey could play a central role in changing the regional narrative, he said. US President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan "see that this is an opportunity at a really interesting point in both of their lives where they can change the dialogue," he said. "And dialogue in the Middle East takes strong leadership." Barrack also said he believed there would be a ceasefire soon in Israel's 20-month war on Gaza, which would also speed up a shift in regional thinking. "We're going to see a ceasefire in Gaza in the near future, I think we have the right team on it," he told Anadolu. "Everybody is starting to move back towards the Abraham Accords, especially as the Gaza situation dissipates," he said referring to the US-sponsored agreements struck by Israel to normalise ties with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco. And he expressed confidence that Turkey and Israel -- whose relationship has been shattered by the Gaza war -- would resume their former ties. "It can happen again, it's not a religious issue, it's a misunderstanding of territorial desires. So having a discussion, a dialogue.. will take place."
