These Are The Favorite Car Brands Of The Ultra-Rich

Gulf Insider13-05-2025
What car brands do America's wealthiest drivers prefer?
While luxury brands may come to mind, data compiled by S&P Global Mobility highlights some interesting findings.
In this graphic, Visual Capitalist's Marcu Lu ranks the favorite car brands of the ultra-rich, based on each brand's percentage share of new registrations in the United States.
To come up with this analysis, S&P Global Mobility combined income data from the U.S. Census with their own vehicle registration and loyalty data. Ultra-wealthy households are defined as those with annual income of over $500,000. Rank Brand Ultra-Wealthy Market Share(% of new registrations) National Average Market Share(% of new registrations) 1 🇺🇸 Tesla 19.3 4.7 2 🇩🇪 BMW 9.9 2.4 3 🇩🇪 Mercedes-Benz 8.7 1.9 4 🇬🇧 Land Rover 5.8 0.6 5 🇯🇵 Toyota 4.6 14.0 6 🇩🇪 Audi 4.6 1.2 7 🇺🇸 Ford 4.1 9.3 8 🇯🇵 Lexus 3.9 2.6 9 🇩🇪 Porsche 3.9 0.4 10 🇺🇸 Rivian 3.4 0.3
Tesla is the most popular brand among America's ultra-rich, accounting for an impressive 19.3% of new vehicle registrations.
This popularity is likely due to Tesla's blend of technology and electric performance, which may resonate with wealthy buyers who value innovation and sustainability.
In fact, the ultra-rich are 17.5 percentage points more likely to buy an EV than the average American (85.1% vs 67.7%). This might explain why Rivian, a relatively new car brand, is #10 in this ranking with a 3.4% market share among ultra-rich.
Mainstream brands like Toyota and Ford continue to hold strong appeal among America's ultra-rich.
These brands can deliver a more practical and reliable experience, and are among the cheapest car brands to own and maintain.
Another interesting stat: the Ford F-series pickup truck is the best-selling vehicle in 24 U.S. states.

Saudi Arabia's GDP Grows 3.9% In Q2 On Rebound In Oil, Non-Oil Sectors

Saudi Arabia's real GDP expanded by 3.9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, according to flash estimates released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). The growth was led by a 4.7% increase in non-oil activities, followed by a 3.8% rise in oil activities and 0.6% in government activities. On a quarterly basis, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 2.1% compared to Q1 2025, supported largely by a strong 5.6% jump in oil sector performance. Non-oil activities also posted a healthy 1.6% growth, while government activity declined slightly by 0.8%. Analysts at S&P Global Market Intelligence expect this momentum to continue in the second half of 2025. 'As oil production ramps up in line with OPEC+ agreements and Vision 2030 reforms continue to drive non-oil diversification, we forecast real GDP growth to accelerate to 4.8% in 2025, up from 2.0% in 2024,' they said in a statement. Domestic demand and consumer spending are expected to play a leading role in driving the economy this year, though private fixed investment may stay muted. Public investment growth is also likely to remain constrained as the kingdom manages fiscal deficit targets. The combination of rising oil exports and sustained non-oil expansion underscores Saudi Arabia's resilience amid shifting global economic dynamics and positions it for stronger full-year performance.

China Robot Giant Unveils Tesla Optimus Killer

Unitree Robotics, China's dominant robot company, is turning heads with the release of its new humanoid that can fist-fight and perform cartwheels – capabilities that represent a direct challenge to Elon Musk's ambitions of establishing Tesla's Optimus as the world's leading humanoid Unitree Robotics R1, weighing 55 pounds and equipped with 26 joints for fluid movement, showcases advanced capabilities like cartwheels, spin-kicks, and a 'kip-up' maneuver, transitioning from a supine position to standing without using its hands, as demonstrated in a recent video released by the company. Unitree Introducing | Unitree R1 Intelligent Companion Price from $5900Join us to develop/customize, ultra-lightweight at approximately 25kg, integrated with a Large Multimodal Model for voice and images, let's accelerate the advent of the agent era!🥰 — Unitree (@UnitreeRobotics) July 25, 2025 The R1's launch directly challenges Elon Musk's vision for Tesla's Optimus, which aims to lead the global humanoid robotics market. Musk has outlined ambitious plans, predicting in January that Tesla could produce 'several thousand' Optimus robots this year for internal factory use, with goals to scale to 50,000–100,000 units in 2026 and achieve a tenfold increase the following year. However, reports from Taiwan's Digitimes suggest Tesla's Optimus faces production delays due to a redesign, with unnamed Chinese supply chain sources indicating ongoing refinements to key components before mass production can resume. The humanoid robotics market could see explosive growth, with projections estimating a $5 trillion industry by 2050, encompassing supply chains, maintenance, and support networks. Morgan Stanely analysts anticipate adoption will surge in the late 2030s, driven by technological advancements and increasing regulatory and societal acceptance. By 2050, over 1 billion humanoids could be in use, with 90% deployed in industrial and commercial roles. Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, an early backer of OpenAI, has predicted a ChatGPT-like breakthrough in robotics within two to three years, envisioning adaptable humanoids capable of tasks like chopping vegetables or washing dishes. Saudi EV Buyers Have Tesla As Choice - How Soon Before More Chinese Brands Join In?

More Saudi car buyers are in the mood to give EVs a chance with more dealerships in the Kingdom set to announce tie ups with leading Chinese carmakers to speed up the process. After what seems like a long gestation period, Tesla finally opened its first outlet in April, while Saudi-backed luxury EV brand Lucid Motors has done some of the preparatory work in creating a conducive environment for non-fuel automotive options. But as happened in UAE, a range of Chinese-made EVs are set to be introduced in the Gulf's biggest car market over the coming months. (In the UAE, more than 10 Chinese EV brands made their debut starting late 2023/early 2024 and until now, and many of them have started to pick up buyer backing for them.) By end 2024, new car registrations of EVs in the UAE made up around 4%-5%, according to estimates – in Saudi Arabia, it was 1% of new car sales. 'Saudi banks are starting to offer favourable EV auto financing options, and dealers are working with insurers to come up with buyer-friendly packages,' said a dealer source. 'The UAE auto market created the blueprint to launch and push new EV brands. It can easily be replicated in a market like Saudi Arabia.' The Saudi car market is expected to account for 600,000 plus units a year by the end of the decade. If EV sales can make up 10%-15% by then, the game is on, say auto analysts. 'The EV penetration in Saudi Arabia is relatively low compared to UAE,' said Vishal Pandey, Director of Dubai-based Glasgow Consultancy Group. 'However, given the emphasis from Saudi Government on electrification, there is high likelihood that growth is going to be faster. 'There is still a perception issue among Saudi consumers in regards to EVs, as they are concerned about the high cost of acquisition, charging infrastructure, and the after-market service. Plus, there is also the resale value.'
