OpenPayd, Ripple forge stablecoin payments alliance

Yahooa day ago
Financial infrastructure provider OpenPayd and Ripple have formed an alliance to enhance payment solutions for enterprise clients.
The partnership will integrate OpenPayd's global fiat infrastructure, which includes real-time payment rails, multi-currency accounts, and virtual IBANs, into Ripple Payments, facilitating transactions in EUR and GBP.
Ripple Payments, which employs blockchain and digital assets, aims to streamline cross-border payments and provide on/off ramps for financial institutions globally.
It is also a part of the OpenPayd's stablecoin infrastructure expansion.
OpenPayd will now offer direct minting and burning of Ripple USD (RLUSD), a USD-denominated stablecoin developed by Ripple.
Enterprises can convert between fiat currencies and RLUSD while utilising OpenPayd's services, including account management, payments, and trading via a single API.
Ripple Stablecoins SVP Jack McDonald said: 'Our collaboration with OpenPayd gives enterprises reliable access to RLUSD, combining the stability and compliance they expect with the connectivity they need. This is how we accelerate real-world adoption of stablecoins at scale.'
The stablecoin RLUSD is designed to support multiple use cases such as cross-border payments, global treasury management, and access to US dollar liquidity.
The partnership aims to provide enterprises with the necessary tools to conduct and manage international monetary transactions effectively.
OpenPayd CEO Iana Dimitrova stated: 'By combining Ripple Payments with OpenPayd's rail agnostic and fully interoperable fiat infrastructure, we are delivering a unified platform that bridges traditional finance and blockchain.
'This partnership enables businesses to move and manage money globally, access stablecoin liquidity at scale, and simplify cross border payments, treasury flows and dollar-based operations.'
Last month, OpenPayd partnered with Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, to combine traditional banking systems with blockchain technology, facilitating global business transactions.
"OpenPayd, Ripple forge stablecoin payments alliance " was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a GlobalData owned brand.

3 Reasons to Buy XRP Before the End of Summer

Three catalysts are emerging for XRP that could send its price higher in the second half of the year. New regulatory clarity will give an overall lift to Ripple, the company behind the XRP token. The SEC is widely expected to approve new spot XRP ETFs in early fall, paving the way for institutional investors to buy XRP. 10 stocks we like better than XRP › Despite all the hype and buzz at the beginning of the year, XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) is only up 5% through the first half of 2025. But that could change over the next two months. That's because a number of developments are now in the works that could send XRP much higher in the second half of the year. In fact, there are now three good reasons to buy XRP before the end of summer. If there is one cryptocurrency that could benefit from regulatory clarity, it's XRP. Ever since the start of the year, we've been hearing that a final resolution of the long-running case involving the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple (the company behind the XRP token) would be coming "any day now." In March, Ripple hinted that the SEC was finally going to drop its case. In June, Ripple announced that it planned to drop any future appeals. The SEC also hinted that it would be dropping all future appeals related to the case, but has not yet formally done so. There is still some final paperwork to be submitted. But the case should be wrapped up, once and for all, by the end of July. Regulatory clarity does not end there. There are two massively important pieces of crypto legislation that are now working their way through the U.S. Congress: the Genius Act and the Clarity Act. The Genius Act defines the rules of the road for stablecoins, while the Clarity Act provides a comprehensive regulatory structure for all digital assets, including cryptocurrencies. Both pieces of legislation are important for XRP. The Genius Act is important because stablecoins have emerged as a potential new growth opportunity for the XRP blockchain. The Clarity Act is important because, until it's passed, cautious institutional investors are going to have reservations about investing in XRP. Both bills are expected to be ready for the signature of President Donald Trump by the time Congress goes on summer recess in August. Another important development is the recent appearance of XRP treasury companies. The first-ever XRP treasury company appeared in early June, when VivoPower International announced that it would be acquiring $120 million in XRP for its balance sheet. Then, just two weeks later, fellow microcap Trident Digital Tech Holdings announced that it would be adding $500 million in XRP to its balance sheet. These XRP treasury companies are following the business model established by Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), the company formerly known as MicroStrategy. In just five years, Strategy has become the largest corporate Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) holder in the world. Its total Bitcoin holdings are now worth a staggering $65 billion. The Bitcoin treasury company business model is simple yet powerful: Buy as much Bitcoin as you possibly can, as fast as you can, as cheaply as you can. Right now, only a handful of relatively small companies have embraced the XRP treasury company model (which replaces Bitcoin with XRP). But I'm fully expecting that to change by the end of the summer. I'm predicting that one mid-size to large company will soon become known as the "MicroStrategy of XRP," due to its aggressive buying of XRP for its balance sheet. I've saved the best for last. That's because, as soon as everyone returns from summer vacation, the SEC is scheduled to make a decision on spot XRP ETFs. The final deadline for SEC approval is in mid-October, but a decision could come sooner than that. Right now, Bloomberg thinks there's a 95% chance of the SEC approving a spot XRP ETF this year. The precedent is certainly there. At the end of June, the SEC approved a new crypto ETF from Grayscale that will hold XRP in addition to Bitcoin and Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH). Both Bitcoin and Ethereum, of course, already have their own spot ETFs, so it may be just a matter of time before XRP gets its own fund as well. Once new spot XRP ETFs are approved, institutional money might flood into XRP. That's especially the case if the new Clarity legislation is already in place. That way, well-meaning compliance lawyers won't be able to stop companies from investing in XRP. With the new legislation, the government is essentially telling companies: "Yes, it's OK to invest in XRP." This summer could result in the perfect storm for XRP. At the exact moment when it has been freed from its regulatory shackles (by virtue of the SEC dropping its case), Ripple will be able to launch its spot XRP ETFs. Meanwhile, pro-crypto euphoria stemming from the passage of major new crypto legislation should boost its overall business prospects. At least, that's what XRP bulls are hoping will happen. They're hoping that XRP will soar in price, and potentially even reclaim its all-time high of $3.84 from seven years ago. But just remember: XRP has disappointed before, and if any of the three catalysts outlined above fail to materialize, XRP might still be trading around the $2 mark as we head into 2026. Ripple Applies for Federal Bank Trust Charter, XRP Jumps 3%

Ripple, the digital asset firm closely associated with the XRP Ledger network, has applied on Wednesday for a national banking license at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a spokesperson confirmed to CoinDesk. The license would allow the company expand its crypto services and operate across state lines under federal regulation. Ripple issues the $440 million RLUSD stablecoin regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), and also provides digital asset custody services. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news earlier on Wednesday. XRP XRP, the native cryptocurrency of the payments-focused XRP Ledger network, advanced 3% on the news. Ripple's application comes after USDC issuer firm Circle (CRCL) also filed for a similar license earlier this week, a sign that stablecoin companies are seeking federal oversight as U.S. legislation to regulate stablecoins and crypto market structure advances. The House of Representatives currently has the U.S. Senate's stablecoin bill before it. Crypto custodian Anchorage Digital already holds a federal charter. "If approved, we would have both state (via NYDFS) and federal oversight, a new (and unique) benchmark for trust in the stablecoin market," Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said in an X post. Garlinghouse said the company also applied for a master account at the Federal Reserve earlier in the week via Standard Custody, the New York-based trust and custody firm Ripple acquired last year. Master accounts allow banks and depository institutions to directly access the Federal Reserve, rather than require them to go through intermediary banks. If obtained, a Fed account would allow Ripple to store its stablecoin reserves such as U.S. Treasuries with the central bank and "provide an additional layer of security to future proof trust in RLUSD," Garlinghouse said. For long, crypto-focused firms such as Kraken and Caitlin Long's Custodia Bank have tried without success to obtain accounts at the Fed. UPDATE (July 2, 18:40 UTC): Adds comments from Brad Garlinghouse on bank charter and Fed master account application. INSTITUTIONS FORGE AHEAD: Despite a complex regulatory environment, institutional money continued to pour into the digital asset space this week. U.S. Bitcoin spot ETFs saw a surge of confidence, with over $500M in net inflows on a single day. Fidelity's FBTC and BlackRock's IBIT led the charge, pulling in $166M and $153M, respectively. Corporate adoption also hit major milestones, as design software powerhouse Figma (FIG) revealed in its IPO filing a significant holding of $70M in Bitcoin ETFs. Over in Europe, the trend was just as strong. Germany's largest financial group, Sparkassen, announced it plans to provide cryptocurrency trading to its retail customers by summer 2026, while banking giant Deutsche Bank (DB) is proceeding with its initiative to introduce a crypto custody service in the same year. A WEEK OF REGULATORY RECKONING: Regulators and lawmakers globally made their presence felt this week. In the United States, New York Attorney General Letitia James publicly urged Congress to enact more robust federal regulations to bolster investor protections. On the enforcement side, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned a cryptocurrency wallet identified in connection with a ransomware attack, signaling a tougher stance on illicit activities. In another move toward greater oversight, stablecoin issuer Circle is pursuing a U.S. National Trust Bank charter. Internationally, Turkey's Financial Crime Investigation Board announced strict new rules for crypto platforms, requiring detailed source and purpose checks for transactions. In contrast, the European Union's new MiCA regulations are fostering growth, attracting exchanges like Bybit and OKX to broaden their services in the region. RIPPLE'S DUAL STRATEGY: Ripple, the company behind XRP, was at the center of two major developments this week. In a move that could finally end a years-long legal saga, the company dropped its cross-appeal against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In a separate, major strategic push, Ripple announced it is applying for a national bank charter from the OCC and a Fed Master Account. This forward-looking move aims to allow Ripple to hold reserves for its stablecoin directly with the Federal Reserve, a strategy designed to set a new benchmark for trust in the stablecoin market. BRIDGING TRADITIONAL AND DECENTRALIZED FINANCE: The trend of merging traditional assets with blockchain technology gained serious momentum. In a pioneering move, U.S. company Everything Blockchain (EBZT) announced its intention to become the first publicly-traded OTC firm to fully tokenize its stock on a blockchain. In a similar development that brings a major traditional asset onto the blockchain, shares of the prominent chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) are now tradable on the Solana (SOL) blockchain in the form of tokenized stocks. On the consumer front, Bitget Wallet partnered with Mastercard (MA) and Immersve to launch new zero-fee crypto cards, aiming to simplify the process of using crypto for daily purchases.
