Luis Enrique ready for 'special' showdown between PSG and Real Madrid

Yahoo4 days ago
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique described Wednesday's Club World Cup semi-final showdown between the European champions and Real Madrid as "special" but dismissed questions over his relationship with Kylian Mbappe ahead of a reunion with the superstar striker.
"Playing against Real Madrid is always a special game," PSG's Spanish coach told reporters at a press conference at the MetLife Stadium just outside New York, where the clash will take place.

"We are delighted to be playing in a game like this because it means we have done a good job up to now."
PSG came to the United States for the tournament fresh from winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time, in the season following Mbappe's departure for Real.
Luis Enrique coached Mbappe during his final campaign in Paris, a turbulent year in which the France captain was initially sidelined from the team for refusing to sign a new contract and later used sparingly after making it clear he would depart.
"All I can say is that belongs in the past, it is behind us now," said Luis Enrique.

"Lots of things make this a special game. This game is important because it is a Club World Cup semi-final. That makes it very interesting and we need to be ready to remain focused on the match.
"We are very close to playing another final and that is a true motivation," added the coach, who is without defensive duo Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez after both were sent off in the quarter-final win over Bayern Munich.
While PSG are seeking to end a trophy-laden season with even more silverware, the Club World Cup marks the start of a new era for Real under their new coach Xabi Alonso.
"I think it's very difficult to analyse Real Madrid because Xabi Alonso is just starting his work there," said Luis Enrique, who is closely associated with Barcelona but also played at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 1990s.

"For me it has always been a pleasure to play against Real Madrid and it always will be.
"They are the most decorated club in the world and Xabi has everything required to take on the challenge."
Real coach Alonso did not speak to media on Tuesday after the Spanish giants' flight to New York from their training base in Florida was delayed due to stormy weather conditions.
The winners of Wednesday's semi-final will advance to the final on Sunday where Chelsea lie in wait after the English side defeated Fluminense 2-0 in Tuesday's first last-four tie.

Jake Paul references Kamala Harris in fiery response to reporter questioning female 'sexualization' in boxing

An historic night at Madison Square Garden on Friday night turned into an awkward moment in the wee hours of Saturday morning at the Taylor-Serrano 3 post-fight press conference. A reporter based out of Puerto Rico asked a question that "has to do with the projection of women in boxing." The reporter insinuated that there was an "issue" with ring girls and the "sexualization of women" in an all-female card. Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian asked, maybe not so tongue-in-cheek, "Do you want ring boys?" "A couple of people have said, 'Why not have boys or any of them?'" the reporter replied. Jake Paul, who seemed dejected throughout the entire press conference (understandably so, given Amanda Serrano's loss), had enough. "Bro, bro. Please shut the … stop. Just stop talking," he said. Bidarian then butted back in, saying "if anybody wants to send an application to be a ring boy at MVP, send it to that young man." Paul then replied, "Send it to f---ing Kamala Harris." MVP set a Guinness World Record for the most titles on the line in a single boxing card with 21. Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano for the third time in as many fights between the two living legends on Friday night at Madison Square Garden via majority decision. Taylor retained her WBA, WBO, WBC, and IBF super lightweight championship belts. This was the trilogy bout between two of the greatest female boxers to step into the ring. Taylor won the first bout back on April 30, 2022, which also took place at the world's most famous arena, in a split decision. The two squared off again on Nov. 15 of last year as the co-main event to Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, and Taylor won in a controversial unanimous decision. One judge scored the fight a tie, but the two others gave it to Taylor, and she released an emphatic yell when the results were read. Taylor improved to 25-1 in her illustrious career, while Serrano is now 47-4-1, with three of those losses to Taylor. WWE announces new title match with an obvious winner at Saturday Night's Main Event

WWE's Saturday Night's Main Event takes place this weekend (July 12) at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The main attraction on the card is Goldberg's retirement match, where he will challenge GUNTHER for the world heavyweight championship. But that's not the only title match WWE has planned for the event. Advertisement SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis just announced a short while ago that new United States Champion Solo Sikoa will make his first title defense against his brother, Jimmy Uso. There isn't much doubt about the outcome here; Jacob Fatu is the real threat to Sikoa's title reign, while Jimmy is more of a lower card wrestler on SmackDown. Here's the updated card for Saturday Night's Main Event: GUNTHER (c) vs. Goldberg for the World heavyweight championship Solo Sikoa (c) vs. Jimmy Uso for the United States championship Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre LA Knight vs. Seth Rollins It looks like there is still room for a women's match to be added to the card, unless the July 13 all-women's Evolution show means that's not happening here. How do you feel about Sikoa vs. Uso taking place at Saturday Night's Main Event? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders. Advertisement More from

Saturday Night's Main Event 2025: Predictions, match card,

Saturday night keeps getting hotter. WWE is fresh off a Night of Champions card that packed plenty of action and set the stage for a huge weekend this weekend. Now, WWE will put on Saturday Night's Main Event, and the show is loaded. Advertisement Here's everything you need to know about the show. When is Saturday Night's Main Event? Saturday Night's Main Event will be held July 12. What time is Saturday Night's Main Event? The show will start at 8 p.m. and will last two hours. What channel is Saturday Night's Main Event on? Saturday Night's Main Event will air live on NBC. How to stream Saturday Night's Main Event The show will stream live on Peacock. Where is Saturday Night's Main Event taking place? Saturday Night's Main Event will be held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Saturday Night's Main Event match card GUNTHER vs. Bill Goldberg for the WWE championship Seth Rollins vs. LA Knight Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre Solo Sikoa vs. Jimmy Uso for the United States championship Advertisement Saturday Night's Main Event predictions Here's how we see the matches going on Saturday. GUNTHER vs. Bill Goldberg prediction I'm really looking forward to this match. Goldberg isn't a kid, but he is a legend. And he will give this match his all. He's in there against one of the best. If anyone can protect a guy who isn't at his best, it's the ring general. Goldberg is going to hit some big moves, he's going to make it fun, and he's going to go out on his back. Looking forward to this, looking forward to see where GUNTHER goes from here and happy that Bill Goldberg is getting a chance at his retirement match. And this is coming from a huge Bret Hart fan! Prediction: Goldberg shines, GUNTHER wins. Advertisement Seth Rollins vs. LA Knight prediction Is anyone better than these two right now? It's crazy that this match is on free TV. Seth Rollins is the hottest thing in wrestling, something that often happens with Paul Heyman guys. And the fans are so in love with LA Knight. He's in the mix as a top guy and he's capable of doing even more. I don't want to see either of these guys lose. The winner will get help. It would make sense for Rollins' henchmen to interfere and cost LA, but I think Roman Reigns returns here. Why not? Have him come out, beat up Seth, and set up a SummerSlam match. I still want this match to headline WrestleMania, but if they're doing it in New Jersey, I'm all in! I'm going with LA Knight. Yeah! Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre prediction A friend floated an interesting double turn in this match. I never thought of it, but Orton is slowly turning bad and how much longer will the fans boo a guy like Drew McIntyre? That's a great idea. This will be another great match with two top stars, and it's crazy WWE can just throw matches like this around on free TV and not worry about burning through a main event because the roster has so much depth. Both should win, so it's a coinflip. I'm going with Drew McIntyre winning. I'd really like to see him vs. GUNTHER soon. Advertisement Solo Sikoa vs. Jimmy Uso prediction This is going to have a bunch of interference, and hopefully it gets the Bloodline back on track. I can't see them taking the title off of Solo, so I'll say his friends jump in and cost Uso the chance at the win, but Jacob Fatu comes out and him and Jimmy clean house. Maybe Jey comes back to help? The Bloodline was the best storyline in WWE history, and I'm not sure what inning we're in now, but I'd be all for a doubleheader. Prediction: Solo Sikoa retains US Title, but crazy stuff happens after. This article originally appeared on Asbury Park Press: Saturday Night's Main Event card, predictions, how to watch
