OH SHEET I tried going to bed as ugly as possible to wake up more beautiful – my partner thought I was mad but this item worked
THEY call it 'beauty sleep,' but let's be honest - just because I've clocked in a solid eight hours doesn't mean I wake up looking fresh-faced.
And some days more than others it certainly takes a bit of work on my puffy eyes and messy hair before I look presentable for the world.

The idea is that you go to bed after applying multiple beauty products - and 'shed' them off in the morning to have a 'glow up'

And sometimes there just isn't time for a miracle, if I'm rushing to work or I'm late out the house.
But could TikTokers have the ultimate clever solution to help my predicament?
One of the booming beauty trends that has over 100million views is the 'morning shed' - and it looks baffling from first glance.
The #morningshed trend is about maximising beauty sleep by applying multiple beauty products before bed, then "shedding" them in the morning to reveal a fresher, more flawless complexion.

TikTokers such as @victoriasamson and @eringetty7 alone have racked up millions of views showing their step-by-step routine, which include putting hair in overnight, heatless curlers and sleeping in a collagen mask.
While the nighttime get-up may look silly to some, I was willing to put it to the test to see if it could be the short cut I was craving for looking fresher, faster.
MY TEST

I applied lip stain, a sleep-in face mask, heatless curlers and a very sexy chin strap

After ordering all my products online, I began my nighttime beauty prep with slightly damp hair and a set of heatless curlers, which cost just £2.25 from Shein.
I wrapped my hair around the soft band, hoping to wake up with effortless waves.
Next, I applied a £12 lip stain by Sacheu, which promised a naturally rosy tint by morning once wiped off.
Then came the viral face mask that's been making the rounds on TikTok—part of the ever-growing Korean skincare craze.
Morning shed skincare routine and benefits explained
This ChicNana Bio Collagen Face Mask, costing £7.99 for four, is designed to be worn overnight; it goes on visible but gradually turns clear as it absorbs into your skin.
As a side-sleeper, I was skeptical it would stay put, but I gave it a try.
I followed that with a dab of castor oil on my lashes—meant to strengthen and promote growth over time. No overnight miracles expected there, but worth a shot.
Then came the slightly absurd-looking £3.99 chin strap from Amazon, promising to 'sculpt jawlines' and 'prevent sagging skin.'
I looked absolutely unhinged by this point—but I wasn't done.
Finally, I applied the £14.99 SunnieSide Skin Beauty Sleep Tape—a mouth tape that claims to improve sleep, support jawline definition, and lock in overnight lip treatments.

Apparently I had nailed the King Baldwin from Kingdom of Heaven look, according to my partner

As I climbed into bed, my partner audibly gasped and joked that I looked like King Baldwin from Kingdom of Heaven.
I couldn't even argue, I did look terrifying.
Despite feeling ridiculous and unsure I'd manage to drift off at all, I actually slept through the night without any issues.
THE RESULT

By morning, the chin strap had fallen off - but the face mask had gone clear and done its magic

I was ready to 'shed' off all the products to see the transformation

My hair had transformed overnight without needing heat

I woke up hoping I'd somehow transformed into a Disney princess overnight—but reality, as always, had other plans.
My chin strap had wandered off sometime during the night, and my lip stain had smudged across my face—probably thanks to the moisture from the sheet mask (which, miraculously, had stayed in place and left my skin feeling surprisingly fresh).
The mouth tape held firm too, and even better, it completely silenced my partner's snoring—thanks to the strip I'd 'generously' applied to him in solidarity.
I was honestly amazed, and safe to say, he'll be wearing one every night from now on.
The real triumph, though, was my hair.
It had curled perfectly overnight, leaving it bouncy and ready to go—no styling required.
I was least impressed with the lip stain, which had left my lips dry, so I gave them a boost with my Silk'n Lumilips LED Lip Mask, which is designed to visibly plump and brightens lips and the surrounding area.
A quick swipe of mascara, and I was ready to head out the door, feeling put-together with barely any effort at all - in the morning at least.

WHAT DO EXPERTS SAY?
But what should we really be doing for our skincare routine, and is the 'morning shed' too over the top?
Shubhi Grover, Head of Consumer and Beauty at Sapience Communications, told Fabulous: "I believe there's a fine line between a ritual and a routine.
"While elaborate morning shed routines may look visually impressive on TikTok, much of the real skin and hair work actually happens overnight, when the body is in recovery mode.
'Your evening routine should be intentional and not overwhelming, as most of us make that mistake. 'A few high-quality, well-formulated products tailored to your skin or hair type can go further than a 12-step ritual you won't sustain.
'I recommend focusing on hydration, barrier repair, and scalp care at night, to wake up glowing without the excessive morning 'undoing.''
The dream nighttime beauty routine, according to experts
SHUBHI Grover, Head of Consumer and Beauty at Sapience Communications gave her absolute non-negotiables for nighttime... A gentle double cleanse to remove SPF and pollutants - double cleanse is my holy grail
An ultra-hydrating serum with peptides or hyaluronic acid
A silk pillowcase to reduce friction - great for both skin and hair
And on my hair: a light scalp serum and a loose protective braid or silk bonnet
She added: 'I would say it's less faff, more science, and most importantly, consistency goes a long way."
CONCLUSION
While the full nighttime beauty routine was fun to try, I'll be honest—it's a bit too time-consuming to keep up with every single night.
That said, there are definitely a few steps I'll be sticking with.
The heatless curlers are an easy win—no heat damage, and I wake up with soft, bouncy waves.
The overnight face mask left my skin feeling fresh and hydrated, so that's staying in rotation too.
And as for the mouth tape? I might not wear it every night, but my partner definitely will—his snore-free sleep was the real MVP of the whole experiment.

Jess Glynne finally meets Jet2 holiday voiceover star Zoe Lister as their aeroplane advert goes viral
Jess Glynne has finally met the Jet2 holiday voiceover star Zoe Lister after their aeroplane advert became the latest trend on TikTok. Their viral sound has been all over social media this summer - with users adding the soundtrack over clips of travel fails - and while their advert has become a favourite for influencers, Jess, 35, and Zoe, 43, have never officially met. Now the duo have given their fans what they wanted as they recreated the advert live in the Capital Breakfast studio. Speaking with Jordan North and Chris Stark on their morning show, Zoe revealed that she has developed such a close bond with the singer that she feels she is 'in her band'. Referring to the song, Jordan said: 'It genuinely is a banger. You go in any club, and it sounds so good.' To which Chris said: 'But it's wild how you always hear that song whenever you go on a plane and then it's in the advert. 'And then, for reasons no one really understands, this summer, it just exploded on TikTok. Has it surprised you how massive this has all gone?' Jess replied: 'Yeah, it's a massive surprise one hundred per cent. It's the most amazing thing to see though. 'It's mad because I feel like when I do my gigs, I feel like when I go to sing the hook, I feel like they're waiting for me to go ''nothing beats a Jet 2 holiday''. It is tempting but I need to take this seriously it can't be a joke.' Chris replied: 'Well, we want to make this moment happen Jess. I'm not going to lie we want to do something very special this morning. 'The whole of the UK is so excited about this. I've had so many messages over the weekend. So, we've not just invited you guys. 'Obviously Rudimental are here, Jess Glynne you're here, we've also invited the voice of the Jet 2 holiday advert. She's here, please welcome to the show Zoe! To which Zoe quipped: 'We're bonded I feel like I'm basically in your band now To finish the conversation, Chris said: 'The dream here is getting you guys to do the sound, that everyone is hearing, live together!' Speaking with Jordan North and Chris Stark on their morning show, Zoe revealed that she has developed such a close bond with the singer that she feels she is 'in her band' It took a while for people to realise that the voice behind the viral - and widely spoofed - Jet2Holidays advert belongs to the British soap actress. The UK-based organisation's ad, which features popstar Jess's 'Hold My Hand', shows a family of four enjoying a fun-filled holiday abroad while the voiceover skips through the offers and discounts available. The high-energy voice that viewers hear throughout the 30-second 'Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' ad has become almost as distinctive as Glynne's UK chart-topping track - but until recently people had no idea that it belonged to ex-Hollyoaks actress Zoë. Zoe played Zoe Carpenter in the Channel 4 show between 2006 and 2010, making a brief return in April 2017. A writer as well as a performer, mother-of-two Zoe has also contributed to 56 episodes of the soap, which marked its 30th anniversary this year. Other past acting jobs include roles in Midsomer Murders, Crime Stories and Staff Room. According to her management company Harvey Voice's website, she has been the voice of Jet2Holidays for four years. Yet, it was only relatively recently that the mother-of-two revealed herself as the voice of the ad on TikTok - much to fans' delight.

'I was dress coded by a flight attendant and it left me on the brink of tears'
"It was literally so embarrassing, just being s*** shamed in front of everybody" A woman claimed she was "dress coded" and "sl** shamed" by a flight attendant for what she was wearing on a plane. Singer Jacy boarded a Southwest Airlines flight in 2022 wearing a corset top. Due to the hot weather, with the temperature around 39C at the time, Jacy and many of her fellow flyers were wearing light clothing. But she was left on the brink of tears after the confrontation. She alleges that the cabin crew member approached her in front of other passengers and asked her to cover herself up. Not only was she hurt by the comment, Jacy felt she was "more clothed than half the plane". In a TikTok recorded after the incident, she said that the majority of travellers were wearing shorts and tank tops due to the heat, so she didn't understand why she was picked out - or her outfit deemed inappropriate. Another passenger, an actor called Melinna Bobadilla, stood up for Jacy - and claims she was thrown off the flight for doing so, The Mirror reports. Both women turned to social media in the aftermath of the 'dress coding' incident to tell their stories. Jacy, who goes by the TikTok username @maybejacy, said she was approached before getting on the plane. She said that the flight attendant tapped her on the shoulder and asked whether she had a jacket or another item of clothing she could use to put over the corset top. Jacy refused and the Southwest Airlines employee said she would get a T-shirt for the flyer to wear over her clothes. Jacy said she wouldn't wear it and boarded the plane as planned. Posting about the incident, she said: "I was literally going to cry. I was about to cry. It was literally so embarrassing, just being s*** shamed in front of everybody. If it wasn't for this lady [Melinna], my angel, I love her." Her TikTok video has accrued more than 620,000 likes since being posted. In it, Jacy is sitting in her seat holding up the T-shirt in question. She wrote: 'Bro I got dress coded on a flight? Are we in high school? Are you upset about my shoulders? It's 102F? My torso is fully clothed. And it caused a scene because some sweet lady stuck up for me and then got kicked off the flight." She captioned the video: "Give me my money back... or send me a bottle of expensive champagne." Melinna has since come forward on X, formerly Twitter, to tell her side of the story. She alleged that the flight attendant "became defensive when I asked about what rules the young woman was breaking." According to Melinna: "She responded with 'She is wearing a corset and this is a family company. Some people find it offensive.' I then told the employee that I felt threatened and offended by the man directly behind me wearing a 'Let's Go Brandon' shirt, and she did not care." She added: "Basically, Southwest Airlines s*** shamed a young woman of colour for wearing a tank top they deemed offensive, forced her to wear a company-issued sweater, removed me for questioning their misogynistic policy, exercised a double standard when enforcing an alleged offensive attire rule "The raggedy folks at Southwest Airlines in Sacramento disrespected two women of colour, endangered one by needlessly calling the cops, and went out of their way to protect a conservative white man. Yup, that tracks. Southwest Airlines is steamy, stale trash. Go out of business already." Southwest Airlines replied to Melinna's thread, which has been widely retweeted, advising her to message them directly with any further details about her experience. However, Melinna replied: "I don't have faith that this can be rectified via DMs Brenna, unless you are authorised to issue an official apology, reimburse me for all costs incurred related to booking new travel, and issue a check for damages and emotional distress." Melinna went on to claim she had called up the airline, only to be placed on hold for more than an hour on two separate calls, meaning she was unable to resolve the matter. She also advised she will be seeking legal counsel. The Mirror approached Southwest Airlines for comment when the story first came to light in 2022. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

Jess Glynne finally meets Jet2 voiceover artist taking over our summer
Jess Glynne and Zoe Lister – the two people behind the viral TikTok sound of the summer – have finally met in person for the first time. The London singer-songwriter, 35, and the Worcester actress, 43, had their work combined by budget airline Jet2 years ago for an advertisement campaign. Jess' 2015 UK number one song Hold My Hand has been the signature tune for Jet2 adverts – and onboard Jet2 flights – for many years now. Former Hollyoaks actress Zoe was later hired by the airline to produce the now-famous 'Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' voiceover on a number of their TV spots. The sound clip of the Jet2 Hold My Hand mash-up has spread all over TikTok and beyond during the heatwave-hit British summer of 2025, becoming a viral sensation. To celebrate, Capital Breakfast with Jordan North got Jess and Zoe in a room together for the very first time on Monday morning, with the pair joining in on the meme fun. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video In a video posted to Instagram, host Jordan initially found it hard to contain his excitement, screeching at the top of his lungs that Jess and Zoe's meeting was 'finally happening'. 'It's happening! It's happening!' he screamed as Zoe entered the studio and gave Jess a massive hug, while there were calls for everybody to 'calm down' off-camera. Co-host Chris Stark asked Jess: 'You know what's coming, right? We've got to chat about it. Of course, talking about Hold My Hand… You always hear that song whenever you go on a plane. 'Then it's in the advert. And then, for reasons no one really understands, this summer, it just exploded on TikTok. Has it surprised you how massive this has all gone? Jess replied that she was grateful for the renewed interest in the song: 'Yeah, it's a massive surprise 100%. It's the most amazing thing to see though.' Jess then performed her own version of Zoe's famous voiceover, reading the full script out in the studio: 'Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday. And right now, you can save £50 per person. That's £200 off for a family of four.' Her rendition was greeted with massive cheers in the studio, including from Zoe herself, who laughed along to Jess' impression of her. Zoe then gave an impromptu live performance of her famous voiceover while Hold My Hand played in the background, once again being received by loud cheering from the hosts. More Trending Hold My Hand spent three weeks at number one in 2015 and spent 51 weeks in total on the UK charts, eventually being certified 3x Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. Zoe starred as Zoe Carpenter on Hollyoaks between 2006 and 2010, also appearing on Big Brother's Little Brother and T4 On the Beach around the same time. In the 2010s, she turned towards theatre – she was celebrated for her performance as Lady Macbeth during a 2012 run of the William Shakespeare play. Jet2 started using her voiceover in 2019 – four years after she married musician Rob Castell. Got a story?
