Launch of Mouvement Repreneuriat au féminin to Encourage Business Buyouts by Women

Co-created by the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and BCF Business Law
MONTRÉAL, April 30, 2025 /CNW/ - The Fonds de solidarité FTQ ("Fonds") and BCF Business Law ("BCF") have teamed up to create Mouvement Repreneuriat au féminin, an initiative designed to encourage business buyouts by women and to adapt support programs and tools from a gender perspective. The launch will be marked by a round table on June 17 that will bring together some 30 key players in the field to identify concrete actions and initiatives to increase female representation in business transfers and help women execute successful buyouts. The recommendations arising from the discussions will be unveiled in the fall to guide the Mouvement's next steps.
An important initiative
Nearly 1,000 Québec businesses will be up for sale in the coming year, yet women account for just 26% of buyers, a figure that drops to 18% if transfers to spouses are excluded. 1 This low rate of female representation highlights the need to develop the potential of women entrepreneurship to ensure the long-term survival of Québec companies.
To this end, the Mouvement aims to mobilize the business community around women-led buyouts, to understand the issues faced by women in this regard and to identify concrete actions to remove obstacles and encourage more women to acquire existing businesses.
"To foster a strong Québec economy, we need to keep locally founded companies here at home. Business succession is important to Québec's prosperity, as is the search for qualified buyers. Women represent extraordinary potential as entrepreneurs and buyers. Our aim with the Mouvement Repreneuriat au féminin is to offer solutions to meet the needs of women entrepreneurs," said Natalie Brown, Vice-President, Legal Affairs, and Corporate Secretary, at the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.
"By co-creating this movement, we hope to enable women to seize buyout opportunities and to find concrete solutions that will help secure Québec's economic future. At BCF, fostering the success of business leaders and informing their decisions at decisive moments also means responding to the current challenges of business succession," said BCF managing partner Julie Doré.
Bringing together the driving forces of the ecosystem
To kick-start the Mouvement, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and BCF Business Law will be bringing together some 30 key economic, financial and entrepreneurial actors for a round table on June 17 in order to find ways to increase women-led buyouts.

Fonds de solidarité FTQ Share Value Rises to $64.52 Français

Highlights as at May 31, 2025 MONTRÉAL, June 23, 2025 /CNW/ - For its fiscal year ended May 31, 2025, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ posted comprehensive income (profit) of $1.9 billion. The annual return to shareholders is 9.2% (including 1.3% in the second half of the fiscal year). The value of the Fonds share is now $64.52. Net assets stand at $21.9 billion (an increase of $0.2 billion during the second half of the year), and the number of shareholders grew to over 808,000. The Fonds' annual compound shareholder returns (excluding tax credits) as at May 31, 2025, are 9.2% for 1 year, 7.0% for 3 years, 7.8% for 5 years and 6.9% for 10 years. "The annual return reflects the volatility during the fiscal year. After posting 7.8% in the first half, the Fonds' portfolio held steady in the second half with a return of 1.3%, thus generating $1.9 billion in profits for the year despite ongoing uncertainty and volatility," said Fonds President and CEO Janie Béïque. "We remain ready to support local businesses and their workers to build a stronger and more resilient economy. Whether it's business succession, productivity, technology transition or housing, there are as many opportunities as there are challenges. With the strong support of one in six Québec workers, the Fonds will continue to support Québec businesses during evolving economic times. This is what channeling local savings into the local economy is all about," continued Ms. Béïque. During the fiscal year, the Fonds and the Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ continued their efforts to support business transfers in Québec. For instance, they invested to support the succession of Stageline, a world leader in the design and manufacture of mobile stages and hydraulic stage structures. An investment was also made in the Fonds d'investissement pour la relève Agricole (FIRA II) to support a new generation of farmers throughout Quebec. For their part, the Fonds régionaux notably supported the transfer of SMEs such as Sciage de Béton Saguenay, metal products specialist Permafil in Sainte-Marguerite, and Pro-Fil électrique, an entrepreneur specializing in residential and commercial electrical installations and repairs based in Québec City." The Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ continued its investments, particularly in the residential market, with the aim of accelerating building starts and addressing the housing shortage. It authorized investments for a project of 307 apartments in L'Assomption, as well as a 132-apartments project in Mont Saint-Hilaire and for 205 apartments in Pointe-Claire. The Fonds immobilier is also continuing the deployment of social and affordable housing. _____________________________________ 1 This figure encompasses investments made by the Fonds and its network – the Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ, the fonds locaux de solidarité and the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ – between June 1 and May 31. Random selection program Last year, the Fonds conducted two random selection rounds for share issues paid through a one-time payment or through automatic bank withdrawals. "Since saving for retirement is at the heart of our mandate, I am delighted with the success of the first random selection rounds organized by the Fonds for share issues. Doing this has enabled us to reach even more Quebecers looking to prepare for a decent retirement. Thanks to this random selection program and our retirement savings awareness activities, the Fonds welcomed nearly 54,000 new shareholders in 2024-2025. At a time when the cost of living is rising, knowing that more than 50,000 additional workers have chosen to entrust us with their savings for the first time reminds us of the foundation of our mission," concluded Janie Béïque. In the next few months, the Fonds will announce the terms and conditions of the next random selection round, which will allow Quebecers to contribute to the Fonds and in so doing, better prepare for retirement. Rencontre au Sommet 2025 - 150 Quebec Leaders Commit to Boosting Productivity, Innovation, and Resilience in Quebec Français

MONTREAL, May 28, 2025 /CNW/ - In a rapidly changing global economic landscape, 150 leaders from Quebec answered the call from BCF Business Law and Aviseo Conseil to take part in the first edition of the Rencontre au Sommet, powered by Desjardins Business. Against the backdrop of today's politico-socio-economic climate, the event provided a clear diagnosis of current challenges. Through keynote conferences, prestigious panels, and co-creation workshops, business leaders, economists, and public sector representatives engaged in open dialogue about the obstacles hindering our progress and the levers to activate in order to reverse the trend. Moving Beyond Cyclical Debates to Address Structural Issues Throughout the discussions, three major findings emerged, highlighting the urgent need for collective action. Quebec and Canada's competitiveness is eroding: According to the IMD, Canada fell from 8th to 19th place globally in competitiveness between 2020 and 2024, a worrying decline among 67 countries assessed. According to the IMD, private investment in innovation and research & development (R&D) is declining: Since mid-2022, such investments have dropped by more than 10%, at a time when Quebec was already lagging significantly behind Ontario and the Canadian average. Commercializing research remains a structural challenge: As reported by the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC), Université de Montréal, less than 10% of Quebec's scientific discoveries reach the market as products, limiting the economic impact of local innovation. These issues, which predate the current political situation, call for moving beyond circumstantial debates to tackle the root causes. In this spirit, the leaders gathered at the Rencontre au Sommet chose to focus on coordinated action to turn these findings into drivers of sustainable growth. An Invitation to Collective Commitment Far from being just another forum, this day was designed to spark concrete commitments for Quebec and to launch a new dynamic of economic transformation. Throughout the event, participants were invited to reflect on a central question: " If you could transform just one aspect of Quebec to foster productivity, resilience, and innovation, what would you change, and why?" Driven by a clear and mobilizing ambition for the Quebec Inc. of tomorrow, participants made over a hundred concrete commitments, under their responsibility, to build a more productive, innovative, and resilient Quebec. Whether it involves accelerating technology adoption, supporting intrapreneurial succession, placing people and their well-being at the heart of decision-making, pooling development efforts, or strengthening solidarity among economic players to conquer new markets, a common will has emerged: to progress together by leveraging our collective strengths. The production of a white paper summarizing the day's reflections, the organization of thematic round tables on the challenges discussed, and the return of a second edition of the event in 2026 have also been agreed upon. Julie Doré, Managing Partner at BCF, emphasized the importance of moving from vision to action: "Envisioning the future is one thing, but being able to influence it is what truly matters to us. Our ambition is to actively contribute to the economic growth and sustainable success of our clients and Quebec's society. This determination to act also embodies the leadership BCF aims to assert in the legal and business sectors, which is why we launched the Rencontre au Sommet." "At Aviseo, we believe that every period of uncertainty is also a tremendous opportunity to reinvent ourselves. Our mission is to equip and support leaders and organizations, so they can turn challenges into levers for sustainable growth, notably by harnessing collective intelligence," said François Rousseau-Clair, Founding Partner at Aviseo Acknowledgements to Partners The event would not have been possible without the invaluable support of Desjardins Business, our driving partner, as well as the Conseil du Patronat du Québec and the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec, all committed to Quebec's collective prosperity. Jean-Yves Bourgeois, Executive Vice-President, Business Services, Desjardins Group, stated: "This partnership with the Summit Meeting was a natural fit for Desjardins Business, given our commitment and determination to support Quebec's business leaders, entrepreneurs, and visionaries, so that they can not only weather the storm but also boldly, agilely, and collectively build tomorrow's economy."
