LJP-RV eyes Shahabad region for Chirag, party's survey finds strong support there
A recent internal survey conducted by the party indicated that Chirag has popular support base in Shahabad region, comprising four districts—Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur and Buxar—and he is likely to contest the polls from the area.
This aligns with the party's decision to field him from a "general seat" to convey the message that he is not the leader of any particular community, but is ready to lead the entire Bihar.
"The initial report of the survey conducted by the party indicates that the people of Shahabad are ready to repose their faith in Chirag's leadership. We may very soon call a meeting of the national working committee," the party's Bihar in charge and Chirag's brother-in-law, Arun Bharti, announced through a social media post on Wednesday.
Bharti even went on to say that it's time Chirag should play a "decisive role" in Bihar politics. Describing the report of the party's internal survey, which is still under progress, as very "encouraging", Bharti said the people of the Shahabad region are waiting to lend their support to Chirag.
He said that the people of Bihar now clearly want Chirag to come to Bihar and "take up big political responsibility".
Chirag has so far held two big rallies in Ara, a place very close to Bikramganj where PM Narendra Modi held a rally, and also Nalanda, the home district of Nitish.
While he held the "Nav Sankalp Rally" in Ara on June 8, he addressed the "Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam" in Rajgir on June 29. Now, he is set to address two more rallies in Chhapra and Munger in the coming weeks to give momentum to his party's plan.
"The message is very clear. The party has come into poll mode, and Chirag wants to expand his party's base by reaching out to the masses in various pockets of the state, which could prove helpful for the NDA," the party's chief spokesperson, Rajesh Bhatt, told the TOI on Wednesday.

Voter List Row: Tejashwi Alleges Rights Of Biharis Are Being Snatched; BJP Dismisses Concerns
Last Updated: Senior BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain dismissed the opposition's concerns, calling the voter verification process 'routine" The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar before the upcoming state elections has snowballed into controversy, with the opposition referring to it as 'National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state through the backdoor." The BJP, part of the NDA government in Bihar, has dismissed concerns about 'voter suppression" as nothing more than manufactured panic by the Opposition. Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, said genuine voters– especially the poor and minorities– may get left out in the revised voter list, and the whole process might affect the fairness of the upcoming elections. He alleged that the voter rights of people of Bihar are being 'snatched." 'We met with the EC on July 5th and asked basic questions. But we still don't have clarity. You know how Bihar's EC works — like a post office. No one is answering," Tejashwi said at a press conference in Patna. 'Just yesterday, the EC gave out three different orders. What does that show? That even they are confused," he said. Yadav also said he along with Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, will do a 'chakka jaam" (road blockade) as part of the INDI bloc's strike on July 9. 'On July 9, I, along with Rahul Gandhi, will do a 'chakka jaam' (road blockade). The way voting rights of the people of Bihar are being snatched, their other rights will be taken away soon, and hence we will protest against this," he said. AIMIM Bihar president and MLA Akhtarul Iman demanded a stay on the process, saying poor people don't have documents like birth certificates, especially among migrant labourers. 'Only 2% of the population has passports, and just 14% are graduates. How do you expect these people to prove their identity so suddenly — especially during the monsoon season?" he asked. The AIMIM leader, who was in Kishangarh for the poll campaign, said floods had washed away not just homes but essential documents. 'People are scared they'll lose their right to vote — and they're not wrong to be afraid," he added. Nothing To Fear: BJP On Bihar Poll Voter List Revision Senior BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain dismissed the opposition's concerns, calling the voter verification process 'routine." 'Before the election, voter verification was routine. But now, Manoj Jha and Mahua Moitra have gone to the Supreme Court; what difference does it make? It would be beneficial to implement voter verification, as only valid voters would remain eligible. There is no confusion among the voters of Bihar, but RJD and Congress try to create confusion, especially among Muslim voters. These people are scaring them into thinking their votes will be cancelled. There is nothing to fear," he said. Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Of Voter List In Bihar The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued instructions to carry out a Special Intensive Revision in Bihar to weed out ineligible names and ensure all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll, allowing them to exercise their franchise in the polls slated later this year. The poll panel has said it has taken additional steps in the intensive revision to ensure illegal migrants do not get enrolled in the voters' list. It has said nearly 87 per cent of the 7.96 crore voters in Bihar have been provided with semi-filled enumeration forms for the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls. The forms were distributed during the first visit of the booth-level officers (BLOs) to nearly 1.5 crore households in the state. The process of collecting the filled up forms has also started separately, but its figures were not immediately available. The Election Commission said that over 87 per cent enumeration forms — 6,86,17,932 out of the total of 7,89,69,844 (nearly 7.90 crore) electors in Bihar who are enrolled as on June 24, 2025 have been distributed. 'The remaining houses could be locked or of dead electors or of migrants or of those who may be travelling. Since, the BLO shall be visiting three times to the houses of the electors during the exercise, these figures are likely to increase further," the poll body said. Besides, 1,55 lakh booth level agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties are also providing active support in the SIR process. Each BLA can submit up to 50 certified forms per day. Congress Allavaru slams NDA over law and order; calls Bihar 'crime capital' of India
Patna: Bihar Congress incharge Krishna Allavaru launched a sharp attack on the NDA government in Bihar on Monday, alleging a collapse of law and order under its rule. He held Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah accountable for the situation in the state. Speaking to media persons at Patna airport, Allavaru said: 'There is a rule of goons in Bihar and it has become the 'crime capital' of India under the BJP. Common people are dying every day, and big businessmen are being killed in front of their homes.' Questioning the purpose of governance if citizens are not safe, he added: 'Why is the government running if no one's life is secure? In Patna, big people and small people are being killed everywhere. "PM Modi and Amit Shah should answer because they are running the Bihar government from the back door using Nitish Kumar as a front.' On Prime Minister Modi's upcoming visit to Bihar, the Congress leader said the PM is welcome but must answer to the people of Bihar. 'What has he given to Bihar in 11 years of the double-engine government? He has made many big statements, but no work has been done." "Murders happen in broad daylight, unemployment is rising, inflation is increasing, education is stagnant, hospitals are neglected, and there is no medicine,' he added. He further said, 'These are the issues of the people. He is the Prime Minister and should answer, and the people of Bihar should demand accountability.' On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list being conducted in Bihar, Allavaru alleged that the Election Commission is working in favour of the BJP. 'The same thing that happened in Maharashtra, Haryana, and other places is happening in Bihar now. The BJP benefited there, and the election was stolen,' he claimed. He further professed: 'In Bihar, the Election Commission is sitting in the lap of the BJP. So why would the BJP have any problem with this process when it benefits them?' Allavaru's remarks come amid rising political tensions in Bihar following the murder of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna, which has intensified Opposition attacks on the NDA government over law and order ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The Congress, along with other Grand Alliance partners, is raising concerns over governance, voter list revisions, and the safety of citizens under CM Nitish Kumar's leadership.

Chirag Paswan Declares He Will Contest All 243 Seats In Bihar Elections
Saran: Claiming that there was a "conspiracy" to thwart his foray into Bihar politics, Union minister Chirag Paswan on Sunday asserted that he would, nonetheless, contest the upcoming assembly polls in the state. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president, who is a junior NDA partner in the state, made the statement at a rally in Saran district. "I want to take Bihar to new heights. I visualise a future in which our boys and girls will not need to go outside in search of greener pastures; rather, people from other states will come here in search of better education and employment opportunities," said Mr Paswan. He claimed that his passion made many people uneasy. "These people are content with having secured their own future, and they worry about my vision of 'Bihar First, Bihari First' catching the public imagination. So they are involved in a conspiracy to hinder my involvement in state politics. They are trying to create confusion in the minds of the people by asking whether Chirag Paswan will contest the assembly polls himself," Mr Paswan. "I want to put an end to such designs by proclaiming, from this glorious land of Saran, yes, I will contest the assembly polls. I will contest in all 243 seats. Every segment will see Chirag Paswan fighting with full intensity," said the 42-year-old, who has been denying that he had his eyes on the chief minister's chair. He, nonetheless, voiced "concern" over incidents like the murder of top industrialist Gopal Khemka a couple of days ago, and said it raised doubts over the ability of the Nitish Kumar government "which we support and which has so far enjoyed a reputation for good governance". "The upcoming elections are crucial. After winning these, we shall strive to create an atmosphere in which people can step out of their homes at any time without fear and security concerns," said Mr Paswan. He also appeared peeved at his estranged uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras getting a toehold with the offer of entry into the opposition INDIA bloc. Without mentioning the younger brother of his late father Ram Vilas Paswan by name, he recalled, "I was expelled from my own party and made to vacate my own house". Mr Paras had split late Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party in 2021, leaving Chirag, the then national president, isolated, and grabbed a berth in the Union cabinet. Before he was redeemed in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls of 2024, Chirag had to suffer the ignominy of vacating the 12, Janpath bungalow, that his late father had occupied for several years and which also served as the LJP office. The BJP's decision to make peace with Chirag had caused Paras to resign from the Union cabinet ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and, in April this year, quit the NDA. Chirag Paswan also trained his guns at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav by mocking the 'Chhatra Yuva Sansad' drive, where free pens are being distributed among the youth. "Those who had snatched away people's land with the promise of jobs are now distributing pens," said Mr Paswan, in an obvious reference to the railway scam involving Mr Yadav's father, Lalu Prasad, the RJD president. The Union minister also said, "I am fully in support of Bihari youth's demand for a domicile policy. The rights of our young men and women must be protected. But it must be pointed out that the domicile policy, brought in 2006, was scrapped in 2023, when the RJD was sharing power, its de facto leader was the Deputy Chief Minister, and another senior leader was the education minister." Mr Paswan also referred to the 'inheritance tax' proposed by the Congress, an RJD ally, in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls, and urged the people to be wary of the opposition coalition.
