LJP-RV eyes Shahabad region for Chirag, party's survey finds strong support there
A recent internal survey conducted by the party indicated that Chirag has popular support base in Shahabad region, comprising four districts—Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur and Buxar—and he is likely to contest the polls from the area.
This aligns with the party's decision to field him from a "general seat" to convey the message that he is not the leader of any particular community, but is ready to lead the entire Bihar.
"The initial report of the survey conducted by the party indicates that the people of Shahabad are ready to repose their faith in Chirag's leadership. We may very soon call a meeting of the national working committee," the party's Bihar in charge and Chirag's brother-in-law, Arun Bharti, announced through a social media post on Wednesday.
Bharti even went on to say that it's time Chirag should play a "decisive role" in Bihar politics. Describing the report of the party's internal survey, which is still under progress, as very "encouraging", Bharti said the people of the Shahabad region are waiting to lend their support to Chirag.
He said that the people of Bihar now clearly want Chirag to come to Bihar and "take up big political responsibility".
Chirag has so far held two big rallies in Ara, a place very close to Bikramganj where PM Narendra Modi held a rally, and also Nalanda, the home district of Nitish.
While he held the "Nav Sankalp Rally" in Ara on June 8, he addressed the "Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam" in Rajgir on June 29. Now, he is set to address two more rallies in Chhapra and Munger in the coming weeks to give momentum to his party's plan.
"The message is very clear. The party has come into poll mode, and Chirag wants to expand his party's base by reaching out to the masses in various pockets of the state, which could prove helpful for the NDA," the party's chief spokesperson, Rajesh Bhatt, told the TOI on Wednesday.

Dy CM Samrat Choudhary calls Lalu Yadav 'Gabbar of Bihar' in poll-bound state
Gaya (Bihar) [India], July 7 (ANI): Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday launched a scathing attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, calling him the 'Gabbar of Bihar' and accusing him of creating an atmosphere of fear during his rule. Choudhary asserted that the state must break free from the grip of caste-based and dynastic politics to move forward. Speaking at the public gathering, Dy CM Choudhary said, '1.5 crore people left Bihar because of the fear of Lalu Prasad Yadav. He is the Gabbar of Bihar, who did the work of scaring everyone. Be it any community, upper or backwards class, the one person who scared everyone was Lalu Prasad Yadav. Now we need to change this because Bihar needs to be taken forward.' Taking a dig at the fodder scam case involving the RJD patriarch, Choudhary said, 'You want to hand over power again to someone who was jailed for eating the fodder meant for cattle? That is not the Bihar we want anymore.' Drawing a comparison between Bihar and Jharkhand, Choudhary noted that while Jharkhand has a budget of Rs 1.40 lakh crore, Bihar, under the leadership of the NDA, has a significantly higher budget of Rs 3.17 lakh crore. 'Bihar is transforming under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Guided by the dream of Emperor Ashoka, we are moving towards the goal of an 'Akhand Bharat',' he said. He asserted that law and order in Bihar has significantly improved, with the police actively working to free the state from crime. 'No matter what caste, religion or background -- a criminal is a criminal. Whether it's a land mafia or a local goon, they will not be spared,' he added. The Dy CM added, 'It's a clear message: if any criminal tries to harm you, then do not hold yourself because a criminal never belongs to any caste or religion. No one should escape because if he does, then after some time, the person will come asking for MLA MP tickets or will buy the ticket.' Choudhary urged the people of Bihar to protect the state's political integrity and ensure that its future aligns with the development dream envisioned by Emperor Ashoka. 'Let us not allow those who once looted Bihar to return. Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again be looking to continue their stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to unseat Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of two Independent Candidates. The Opposition's INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)

The disturbing return of 'scientific rigging' charges
The Election Commission's special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar is turning into a political confrontation that's threatening to spread like wildfire to the four states and one Union territory due for assembly polls in 2026. The documentary proofs required to verify citizenship under the new SIR rules are highly unusual. It seems not all citizens are presumed equal in the eyes of the Election Commission. Voters who have been enrolled after 2003, when the previous SIR was conducted, need a new set of documents that effectively delegitimises Aadhaar, voter IDs, ration cards, MGNREGA job cards and even passports. In 2025, voters need to produce birth certificates for themselves and their parents, land deeds and revenue receipts. By adding this new list of documents, the EC has inserted itself into the vicious political clash that routinely descends into accusations of being 'anti-national', converting the accuser into a self-appointed vigilante. The disruptive format and the obvious rush to get it done have transformed the Bihar election into a confrontation between the EC and non-NDA political parties. The face-off will likely spread to West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, where the next round of elections are scheduled in 2026. The list of additional documents demanded is problematic for more reasons than one. Neither the Union home ministry nor the police in states that have recently embarked on a mission to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh accept land deeds, school certificates, revenue receipts, pension records, caste or other certificates as proof of citizenship. As it happens, some deportees submitted land deeds, school certificates and revenue receipts going back beyond a generation. The West Bengal government has been dealing with thousands of such cases of wrongful deportation from the BJP-ruled states Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh— where, to be Bengali-speaking, lungi-wearing and Muslim seem to be enough evidence of illegality.
