Vancouver Rise FC Academy learns its path at the 2025-26 CONCACAF W Champions Cup
The Vancouver Rise FC Academy was drawn with defending champion Gotham FC and fellow NWSL side Washington Spirit in Group B for the second edition of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, which kicks off in August.
Group B also includes Mexico's CF Monterrey Femenil and El Salvador's Alianza Women FC.
Group A is comprised of Mexico's Club America and CF Pachuca Femenil, NWSL champion Orlando Pride, Costa Rica's LD Alajuelense and Panama's FC Chorrillo.
The group stage, to run from August to October, will see each team play two home and two away games. The top two from each group advance to the semifinals, set for May 2026.
The 10-team tournament is the elite women's club competition in the region that covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. The winner qualifies for the 2027 FIFA Women's Champions Cup, an annual tournament featuring the champions of each confederation, and for the inaugural FIFA Women's Club World Cup, set to debut in 2028.
Gotham, the 2023 NWSL champion, defeated Mexico's Tigres UANL 1-0 in the May 25 final of the inaugural edition of the tournament. As winner, Gotham qualifies for the 2028 FIFA Women's Club World Cup.
The Vancouver Rise Academy, formerly Whitecaps Girls Elite FC, qualified virtue of winning the League1 Canada Inter-Provincial Championship — the same pathway it used for 2024-25 qualification.
Whitecaps Girls Elite failed to reach the knockout rounds after finishing fourth in Group B at 1-3-0, outscored 16-2 after losses to Club America (7-0) and NWSL's Portland Thorns (6-0) and San Diego Wave (2-0) and a win over Panama's Sante Fe FC (2-1).
The Northern Super League is currently in discussions with Canada Soccer and CONCACAF about the qualification process for future editions.
Gotham was the highest-scoring team in the inaugural edition of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup with 25 goals. CF Monterrey won the 2024 Apertura title while Alianza Women won the 2024 Apertura and Clausura titles in El Salvador for a domestic four-peat.
Tuesday's draw was conducted by Carlos Fernandez, CONCACAF's chief football competitions officer, and assisted by former Mexican footballer Desirée Monsiváis.

Bay FC lose 2-1 as Gotham's Gonzalez scores her NWSL-best 10th goal of the season
Esther Gonzalez scored her 10th goal of the season and Gotham FC came from behind Saturday to defeat visiting Bay FC 2-1. The Spaniard is the top scorer in the NWSL and has already surpassed her total of nine goals from the 2024 season. Gotham (5-5-3) won its second home match of the season. It was a second straight loss for Bay FC (4-6-3), who have lost all three meetings with Gotham since joining the NWSL last year. Penelope Hocking put Bay FC up 1-0 in the 11th minute. Hocking latched onto a looping pass from Hannah Bebar and poked the ball past Ann-Katrin Berger in the Gotham goal. Gonzalez got Gotham's equalizer in the 29th minute when she pounced on a loose pass in the box by Alyssa Malonson. Geyse netted the winning goal for Gotham in the 55th. Nealy Martin found the Brazilian with a bending 40-yard long pass out of the defense. The NWSL schedule will pause until August, with Bay FC facing Houston on Aug. 2. However, Bay FC will host two friendlies at PayPal Park before then, taking on NWSL team Angel City on July 19 and the Urawa Red Diamonds of the Japanese J League on July 27.

Rose Lavelle Returns From Injury To The USWNT and Scores In Win Over Ireland
Rose Lavelle scored in her first national team match of the year after ankle surgery and the United States defeated Ireland 4-0 on Thursday night. Avery Patterson, Sam Coffey and Alyssa Thompson also scored for the United States. Lavelle last played for the national team in December against the Netherlands. Patterson, making her third start for the national team, scored on a header off a short corner from Lavelle in the 18th minute. It was her first international goal. "It's surreal. I think at halftime someone asked me what was going through my head, and I don't think I fully came down and realized what had happened until two water breaks afterward," Patterson laughed. "I need to watch it again because I kind of blacked out." Coffey added a goal before halftime, with a shot that cut across to the far post. It was her third national team goal and second in the last three games. Lavelle made it 3-0 in the 53rd, scoring handily off a well-placed pass from Ally Sentnor. Thompson ran the ball from the center line, danced around a defender and finished with a blast from atop the box in the 63rd. "I felt that pressure was coming so I took a touch around her, I've been in that situation a lot of times in this game, and I was like `I need to score this one,'" Thompson said. "So I did my usual move and then hit it to the far side." Coach Emma Hayes gave her Europe-based players — including Lindsey Heaps, Catarina Macario, Crystal Dunn and Emily Fox — time off after their seasons. The exception was defender Naomi Girma, who is working her way back from a calf injury.
