Grennan was left traumatised by the horror attack
England are looking to retain the Soccer Aid title as they take on the World XI at Old Trafford on Sunday evening, with singer Tom Grennan key to their hopes of getting another win.
Voted player of the match in the 2023 edition, Grennan - whose hits include 'Little Bit Of Love' and 'By Your Side' - is one of the most comfortable on the ball amongst his fellow celebrities, having trained to become a professional footballer before soaring to fame as a singer.

As a teenager, the huge Coventry City fan played for Luton Town and also tried out for Northampton Town and Aston Villa but was later released.

He was also offered an opportunity to play in the United States but he turned it down, telling Music Week: "I was close to playing over in the States but something was telling me not to and obviously it was the music".
Of course, football's loss was music's gain and, after finding fame through a collaboration with Chase & Status, Grennan has become one of the UK's top artists, performing at countless top festivals and securing two UK number one albums.
However, while he is clearly multi-talented, the 30-year-old's journey to the top has not been straightforward, with two horror attacks leaving him scarred both mentally and physically.

Awful attack on Tom Grennan
At the age of just 18, Grennan was attacked by a group of strangers, with the traumatic event leaving him needing surgery as he suffered a fractured jaw.
It also meant that he had metal screws and plates fitted in his jaw for life.
The singer also required extensive therapy as he struggled with his emotional health in the wake of the attack, admitting he "fell into a massive depression" and didn't want to leave his house as he suffered with anxiety.

While he does not like to relive the traumatic event, he told the Guardian in 2017: 'I look at it in a positive way. It made me, like, I don't know … It made me very thankful, do you know what I mean?"
However, in 2022, Grennan was again the subject of an unprovoked attack as he was beaten and robbed after a performance in New York.
He was left hospitalised with a ruptured ear and torn eardrum, leading him to postpone an upcoming show in Washington, D.C..

In a statement, his manager John Dawkins said at the time: "Tom is currently being assessed by doctors for his injuries which include a ruptured ear, torn eardrum and issue with his previously fractured jaw.
"Despite this, Tom is in good spirits but needs to temporarily recuperate whilst doctors assess his ability to continue with his touring."
Having put those dark days behind him, however, Grennan is now at the top of his game and will take to the pitch alongside the likes of Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Jill Scott and Dame Denise Lewis as England look to win successive titles.

However, he will be up against an impressive World XI team that boasts former football stars like Nemanja Vidic and Carlos Tevez alongside famous faces Martin Compston, Bryan Habana and Tony Bellew.

Love Island hunk sparks concern as fans convinced he's suffered painful injury – did you see it?

LOVE Island fans are convinced Conor may have suffered a painful injury before the show after spotting a clue on the show. The rugby player, 25, recently sparked concern after he showed off his pearly white gnashers while in the villa. 4 4 4 Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot a tooth missing from his upper right set and asked whether it might have happened on the show. One viewer wrote: "Not to be rude in the dental situation?" along with a picture of Conor and his missing tooth. But many fans took to reddit to explain that the missing tooth was likely a result of him playing rugby. This person shared: "Dental implants are very expensive and the process is long. He might not mind missing a side tooth which is fine! Genetic condition or a rugby injury perhaps? It's really not a big deal or anyone's place to judge." A second said: "He's played full contact rugby for years, I assume that was the cause. From following other players, they won't get a permanent fix until they retire from rugby because the chance is high it will just get damaged again." "Conor's teeth actually give his face character, they suit him. They are clean and look nice. Also he's a rugby player they tend to lose teeth it's high contact," a third commented. Another added: "He's a rugby player. There is literally no point getting your teeth done before you retire. My husband was missing his front tooth from rugby when I met him…I sorted that straight out ha!" While several other people defended the star's natural teeth. This viewer said: "It costs a fortune to get dental implants for regular people. He's attractive in any case. Better than the Turkey teeth." "I'd rather have real teeth like this than those piano keys the rest of them have got in their mouths," someone else fumed. Love Island star sparks fears she'll quit the show after tense bust-up saying 'she's going to walk' This person posted: "Teeth are unique to people? You're being rude. We don't all have turkey teeth! He probably lost it with rugby or whatever but yeah.. his teeth are unique to him." Conor's time in the villa hasn't been completely plain sailing after love interest Megan was dumped from the villa during a shock public vote. Since then, actress Megan has revealed that Conor slid into her DMs in the past. She told heatworld in an interview: "It's so funny, right? So on day one, Conor told me that he followed me on Instagram four years ago, and I never followed him back. "But then since coming out, I've seen that he follows me on TikTok and he's actually commented on one of my TikToks. "Again, I've not followed him back or even realised he had commented on one." She laughed: "So, yeah, it's nice that he's still trying four years later. "It's worked out for him now, I suppose." Eagle-eyed fans went wild over the theory that Megan and Conor knew each other before entering the villa - after photos seemingly showed them at the same nightclub. Old snaps show Megan with a pal in a night club, while another picture supposedly clocks Conor in the same club long before they entered the ITV2 dating show. The speculation comes after Megan was voted the least favourite girl by the public after an ugly split from Tommy. The Irish star was booted out the villa after finding herself in the bottom three girls, along with Shakira, Megan and Toni. The brunette bombshell's departure followed days of drama after she cracked on with Conor while in a couple with Tommy. 4

YouTuber sparks fierce debate after declaring himself legally 'dead' to get refund from airline

A popular YouTube star has sparked a fierce debate after he declared himself legally 'dead' so he could get a refund from an airline. Popular social media star and comedian Max Fosh, 30, from London, England, recently went viral after he revealed in a YouTube video that he had allegedly faked his own death because he wanted to get his money back on a flight he had missed. In the controversial video, which was shared earlier this week and already has almost two million views, he explained that he was initially told he wouldn't be able to receive a refund after he tried to cancel his flight reservation. But after doing some digging, he noticed in the fine print that the airline, which he opted not to name, said it will give a refund for a flight if the passenger died. So he cooked up a plan to try to get a death certificate from another country. 'The airline requires a death certificate but they don't state where the death certificate needs to come from,' Max explained in the video. 'Could I get myself a death certificate so I'd dead on paper? Could I go to another country and get a death certificate?' 'This is the story of how I traveled to another country, held my own funeral, and was legally declared dead all to get back $50.90.' A popular YouTube star has sparked a fierce debate after he declared himself legally 'dead' so he could get a refund from an airline Max added that he wasn't doing it for the money, but rather, 'to get back at the airline.' 'I'm incredibly petty, it's the principle that I take issue,' he continued. 'After doing some research I've realized that people have lost thousands of [dollars] because of these airlines.' He explained that he reached out to the 'press offices of major governments' from tons of countries. He then got a response from Seborga, 'a self-declared principality claiming to be accidentally left out of the unification of Italy.' 'The town operates as an independent nation with its own flag, currency and government,' he dished. '[They said that] due to these very unique circumstances they are happy to sign a document that says according to them technically I am dead.' So Max jetted off to Italy, rented a car, and drove to the small town of Seborga. There, he met with 'the Princess of Seborga' Nina Menegatto, who, after giving him a tour, went ahead and signed the death certificate. 'Thankfully my fight with a big airline seemed to resonate with the princess and Saborga's fight for independence, so she kindly agreed to sign a special one-off death certificate,' reflected Max. Max went as far as holding a fake funeral for himself, during which he 'hired' three fake mourners and asked his editor, Dave, to 'say a few touching words.' After that was said and done, he applied for a refund with the airline and sent them his 'death certificate' - and low and behold, it allegedly worked. 'It worked. I got an email from the airline [five days later] in which they agreed to continue my application for a refund and I've asked for my bank details,' he said excitedly to the camera. But Max decided to check with a lawyer before sending his bank information, and he soon realized that faking your own death to get an airline refund is 'fraudulent.' 'It's not fraud but it is fraudulent,' Max's lawyer could be heard telling him during a short clip of their phone call. In the end, he decided not to claim the money, and advised his viewers against trying something similar. '[My lawyer] said I really shouldn't do this. He basically told me off and said I mustn't claim the money,' he shared. 'So that is where I'm going to leave this. Please do not do this yourself at home.' The video quickly went viral, and viewers seemed divided over his tactic in the comment section. While many were amused and cracked jokes about it, others slammed him and pointed out that he spent more on getting to Serboga than he got back. 'Imagine faking your own death and then asking your lawyer if it's okay,' one user mused. 'Dude is so petty that he booked another flight in order to get a refund for a flight,' another wrote. 'I find it funny that flying to Italy probably costs more than you will get back from the refund, but I respect it,' someone else agreed. 'I pray for your lawyers,' read a fourth comment.

Shame on Lily Allen for trivialising abortion. It shouldn't be a lifestyle choice

Oh dear. Lily Allen is sharing her lived experience again and she's not just failing to read the proverbial room – she's reduced the country to numb silence. At first, I thought it was just little, old, uptight (and yes, Catholic) me wincing at the way she giggles as she tries to recall all the abortions she's had – but I've checked and I'm far from alone in my disquiet and yes, distaste. As Allen was chatting with best friend Miquita Oliver on their no-holds-barred podcast Miss Me?, conversation turned to birth control. Sometime television presenter Miquita, 41, mused that she had no idea if Lily had ever had a abortion, whereupon Allen, 40, launched into a version of Frank Sinatra's My Way: 'Abortions I've had a few… but then again… I can't remember exactly how many.' Cue giggling and then: 'I can't remember. I think maybe, like, I want to say four or five.' Miquita's response? 'I've had about five too! Lily… I'm so happy I can say that and you can say it and nobody came to shoot us down, no judgment.' Well, no judgment from each other. The rest of us? I'm not gonna lie, some of us are definitely feeling a bit judgy, which is our right. Freedom of speech goes both ways. I would hazard a guess that even the most strident pro-choice activist wouldn't giggle about one abortion never mind five. In fact, I've just spoken to a friend who more or less fits that general description and she just murmured something non-committal along the lines of 'very unfortunate'. To be fair, maybe she meant me, but I doubt it as we're going for a drink next week. Anyway, I'll flag this up right now; I've never had an abortion. Does that make me a paragon of reproductive virtue? No – more a case of 'there but for the grace of God'. Can I imagine scenarios in which I might have had one? Yes, I can. Would I have felt terrible and ashamed? Yes. Would I have overcome that shame and believed it was my duty to talk about it publicly afterwards in a bid to remove the stigma for others in the same position? No. I wouldn't even have told my sisters. Does that make me a bad person? Judge for yourself (free country, see above). More saliently; do I condemn women who've had an abortion, or even more than one? Absolutely not – it would be utterly hypocritical of me.
