The Vande Bharat Express finally resumed its journey late at night, over seven hours behind schedule. The administration has been urged to improve response mechanisms during extreme weather events, especially as rainfall continues to affect multiple districts in Odisha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several parts of the state including Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over the next 24 hours due to a low-pressure area formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. A yellow alert is in place for 17 other districts, predicting heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds. In the Northeastern part of the country, train services connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India via Guwahati were restored on July 4 after being disrupted by a landslide in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section had been blocked by boulders and debris between Dihakho and Mupa stations. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) carried out overnight restoration work, with the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express being the first train to pass through the cleared section.

The minimum temperature in the city dropped to 22.9 degrees Celsius -- five notches below the seasonal average -- offering a cool start to the day. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 33 degrees Celsius, with a generally cloudy sky and continued rain. A 'yellow alert' has been issued for Monday, with thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall predicted throughout the day. Humidity levels reached 100 per cent at 8:30 am, further adding to the dampness in the air. In a bulletin issued at 6:30 am, the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC), New Delhi, said on X, "Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning (30'40 km/h gusty winds) is likely to occur at entire Delhi and NCR during next two hours." The weather office has forecast similar conditions to persist over the next two days, with very light to light rain expected thereafter. Meanwhile, Delhi residents experienced cleaner air, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 81 - categorised as "satisfactory" by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

Uttarakhand: Heavy rains lash parts of Rudraprayag, landslide alert for Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli
Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand) [India], July 7 (ANI): Heavy rainfall hit parts of Rudraprayag district on Monday morning following warnings from the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in Uttarakhand on Sunday issued a high-alert landslide warning for four districts---Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts. The alert, dated July 6, warned of potential landslides on July 7 and 8 in several subdivisions, including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Ukhimath, Ghansali, Narendra Nagar, Dhanaulti, Dunda, and Chinyalisaur. Rudraprayag Police also shared the rain warning on X and posted, 'The Geological Survey Department of the Government of India has issued a warning on July 7, 2025, for a high likelihood of landslides in Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli districts. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department has indicated the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts.' On Sunday, the Meteorological Department issued an alert of heavy rain in Uttarakhand for the next four days in Uttarkashi, Tehri, Bageshwar, Dehradun and Rudraprayag districts of the state. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the disaster-affected Silai Band and Ojri Band stretches along the Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district on Sunday where heavy rains washed away sections of the national highway, disrupting connectivity to the pilgrimage site. Earlier, the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in Rudraprayag district was temporarily halted after a landslide damaged the pedestrian track near Chhodi Gadhere, about one kilometre ahead of Gaurikund. Authorities stated that due to the landslide, the path leading to the sacred shrine of Kedarnath had become unsafe for pilgrims, leading officials to suspend movement along the route until further notice. The Kedarnath Dham witnessed an influx of pilgrims this year, which officials attribute to both improved facilities and growing spiritual interest. Authorities have also deployed enhanced security and medical response teams to manage the high-altitude yatra effectively. The Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located at an altitude of over 11,000 feet in the Himalayas and holds immense religious significance. The Kedarnath Yatra doors for the year 2025 were opened for devotees on May 2. (ANI)
