Ex-Dodgers star Julio Urias plans MLB return two years after domestic violence arrest at MLS game in LA
Julio Urias, the disgraced former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher who pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge last year, wants to continue his baseball career, agent Scott Boras told the Los Angeles Times. '[Urias] still has every intention to continue his career,' Boras said at Tuesday's All-Star game in Atlanta. 'He's getting in shape. Obviously, he'll have options that are open to him.' The LA Times is reporting several teams have inquired about the 28-year-old southpaw who won a World Series title in 2020 before leading the National League in victories in 2021 and earned-run average (ERA) in 2022. Although Boras did not address the issue specifically, Urias' no-contest plea to a domestic violence charge in 2024 could be used to prevent him from returning to an MLB team due to immigration issues. The incident took place at a 2023 MLS game between Lionel Messi 's Inter Miami and LAFC, where Urias was seen angrily running after his wife and shoving her face into a fence. Along with Harry Windsor, the Duke of Sussex and a British royal, Urias was one of many celebrities in attendance that night. Urias faced five misdemeanor charges after posting $50,000 bail, four of which were dropped. He also pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery in May of 2024. The native of the Mexican state of Sinaloa was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 30 days of community service. He was also required to complete a 52-week domestic violence counselling course – the second of his tenure in Los Angeles. He was previously arrested for domestic battery in LA back in May of 2019 and was also required to take the domestic violence counselling course. Urias has been a free agent since October after spending the first eight years of his career with the Dodgers, who first signed him as a 16-year-old playing for Mexico's Diablos Rojos. He made his rookie debut in 2016, and although he was suspended in 2019 after his first domestic violence charge, Urias established himself as one of the more dominant left-handed pitchers in baseball. In 2022, for instance, he led the majors in ERA+, which measures a pitchers earned runs allowed while adjusting for ballpark factors and league averages. The statistic helps to compare pitchers across different teams, leagues and eras.

ESPY Awards 2025 worst dressed list: Gymnast Jordan Chiles shocks in bizarre tiny frock
From over-the-top ruffles and shocking nearly-nude looks to clashing patterns and weirdly-shaped frocks, the 2025 ESPY Awards have been filled with a slew of sartorial nightmares and fashion fails. The event, which is being hosted by comedian and actor Shane Gillis, kicked off at 8pm EST/5pm PST and is streaming live on ABC and ESPN+. It is set to honor the biggest sports stars from the last year, and a slew of top athletes have descended upon the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, ahead of the ceremony. And while some wowed in glamorous dresses and stunning ensembles... others completely missed the mark with their looks. That's right, many sports stars failed to impress with their bizarre outfit choices at the glittering soiree. Gymnast Jordan Chiles lead the worst dressed list at the 2025 ESPY Awards in a curious, checkered mini dress that had a slew of weirdly-shaped cut-outs in the chest area. The eyebrow-raising number resembled some sort of sun hat and stuck out on both sides - and it was so short if left very little to imagination. Track and field star Chari Hawkins's excessive white ruffled dress ensured all eyes would be on her... for the wrong reasons American rugby player Ilona Maher donned a black gown that only had thin pieces of fabric covering her assets on the top half Rapper Tobe Nwigwe's wife Fat Nwigwe was seen in a peculiar tiered dress that had ruffles on each layer and hung awkwardly on her fame Alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn's brown strapless gown looked more like a curtain wrapped around her than a dress, and the slit was way too high Basketball player Flau'jae Johnson wore a weird ensemble that looked like a metal grate. On the side, the fabric was tied into a giant knot... and it was not flattering Gabby Thomas looked awkward in her one-shoulder white frock that had feathered trimmings - and there were just way too many feathers if you ask us Basketball star Rae Burrell hit the red carpet in a strangely patterned gray and black dress, which she paired with a dramatic and oversized shawl. Fitness influencer Katie Austin shocked by wearing a completely sheer skirt that left her underwear on full display, along with an itty-bitty sparkly bra. Wrestler and mixed martial artist Daria Berenato arrived in a pair of leather pants and crop top that had pieces of fabric hanging off of it and a metal ring. Basketball player Flau'jae Johnson wore a weird ensemble that resembled a metal grate. On the side, the fabric was tied into a giant knot... and it was not flattering. Designer Kristin Juszczyk had on a silky off-white gown but the corset top and belt paired together totally clashed. Fashion fail: Soccer player Elizabeth Eddy's green mini dress had a very weird shape and a piece of fabric hanging off the side Sports journalist Kendra Andrews was seen walking the carpet in a black turtleneck body suit and a skirt that looked like it was hanging off Basketball star Chiney Ogwumike hit the red carpet in a strapless gown completely covered in gem stones - but the random pink dots all over it just didn't work Robin Azron - head instructor at Peloton - wore a strapless, metallic silver gown that contained a very low-cut neckline and an over-the-top skirt made out of tassels Runner Gabby Thomas looked awkward in her a one-shoulder white frock that had feathered trimmings. She completed the look with a matching scarf, and there were just way too many feathers if you ask us. Rapper Tobe Nwigwe's wife Fat Nwigwe was seen in a peculiar tiered dress that had ruffles on each layer and hung awkwardly on her fame. Flag football player and Olympic athlete Diana Flores opted for an all-white suit that contained an enormous and bizarre piece of fabric hanging off the side. Host Shane made the worst dressed list thanks to his a plain - and boring - black suit. Marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich suspended over banned substance
The women's marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for the presence and use of the prohibited substance hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). The substance, a diuretic, was detected in a sample collected from the Kenyan athlete on 14 March, the AIU said in a statement on Thursday. Chepngetich set the marathon world record in October last year, finishing the Chicago Marathon in two hours, nine minutes and 56 seconds. 'Chepngetich was not provisionally suspended by the AIU at the time of notification, however, on 19 April, she opted for a voluntary provisional suspension while the AIU's investigation was ongoing,' said the AIU head Brett Clothier. 'In the intervening months, the AIU continued its investigation and today issued a notice of charge and imposed its own provisional suspension.' The AIU said HCTZ is used clinically to treat fluid retention and hypertension, adding that diuretics may be abused to mask the presence in urine of other prohibited substances. In April, Chepngetich withdrew from the London Marathon, saying at the time she was 'not in the right place mentally or physically' to race her best. More details soon
