Kyle Manzardo homer lifts Guardians past White Sox
Bibee (5-9) allowed two runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings after losing his previous five decisions. He walked two and struck out five.
Relievers Erik Sabrowski, Cade Smith and Matt Festa combined to retire all 10 batters they faced over the final 3 1/3 innings for Cleveland, which has won five of six following a 10-game losing streak.
The Guardians led 4-2 before adding two insurance runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez.
Kyle Teel had a two-run single for Chicago, which has lost five of its last seven games.
The Guardians took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Sean Burke. With two runners on and two outs, Ramirez scored from second on Carlos Santana's single to right field.
Burke retired the next seven batters he faced before Santana singled with one out in the fourth and moved to third on Daniel Schneemann's double. Angel Martinez delivered a sacrifice fly to give Cleveland a 2-0 lead.
Burke allowed two runs on three hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out five.
The White Sox pulled even in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Benintendi and Lenyn Sosa began the inning with back-to-back singles, and both runners advanced on a double steal. Teel snapped an 0-for-17 slump with his two-run single.
Manzardo's solo homer put the Guardians ahead with one out in the sixth against Jordan Leasure (2-5). The 381-foot shot was Manzardo's 14th homer of the season.
Chicago hit into three double plays against Bibee, who was replaced by Sabrowski with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Cleveland tacked on another run in the seventh. Austin Hedges hit a leadoff double against Tyler Gilbert, moved to third on Brayan Rocchio's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Kwan's sacrifice fly.
Ramirez had three stolen bases for the Guardians, who have won nine of their last 10 games against the White Sox. The teams split a doubleheader on Friday.

The incident took place at a 2023 MLS game between Lionel Messi 's Inter Miami and LAFC, where Urias was seen angrily running after his wife and shoving her face into a fence. Along with Harry Windsor, the Duke of Sussex and a British royal, Urias was one of many celebrities in attendance that night. Urias faced five misdemeanor charges after posting $50,000 bail, four of which were dropped. He also pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery in May of 2024. The native of the Mexican state of Sinaloa was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 30 days of community service. He was also required to complete a 52-week domestic violence counselling course – the second of his tenure in Los Angeles. He was previously arrested for domestic battery in LA back in May of 2019 and was also required to take the domestic violence counselling course. Urias has been a free agent since October after spending the first eight years of his career with the Dodgers, who first signed him as a 16-year-old playing for Mexico's Diablos Rojos. He made his rookie debut in 2016, and although he was suspended in 2019 after his first domestic violence charge, Urias established himself as one of the more dominant left-handed pitchers in baseball. In 2022, for instance, he led the majors in ERA+, which measures a pitchers earned runs allowed while adjusting for ballpark factors and league averages. The statistic helps to compare pitchers across different teams, leagues and eras.

Marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich suspended over banned substance
The women's marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for the presence and use of the prohibited substance hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). The substance, a diuretic, was detected in a sample collected from the Kenyan athlete on 14 March, the AIU said in a statement on Thursday. Chepngetich set the marathon world record in October last year, finishing the Chicago Marathon in two hours, nine minutes and 56 seconds. 'Chepngetich was not provisionally suspended by the AIU at the time of notification, however, on 19 April, she opted for a voluntary provisional suspension while the AIU's investigation was ongoing,' said the AIU head Brett Clothier. 'In the intervening months, the AIU continued its investigation and today issued a notice of charge and imposed its own provisional suspension.' The AIU said HCTZ is used clinically to treat fluid retention and hypertension, adding that diuretics may be abused to mask the presence in urine of other prohibited substances. In April, Chepngetich withdrew from the London Marathon, saying at the time she was 'not in the right place mentally or physically' to race her best. More details soon
