Heartstopper's Joe Locke ‘thrilled' to make West End debut in Clarkston

Locke said: 'I'm thrilled to be making my West End debut in Clarkston. Samuel D Hunter's writing is so deeply human and honest that I immediately connected with the play when I read it.'
'I can't wait to bring this beautiful story to life and share it with audiences in London.'
Clarkston, directed by Jack Serio, tells the story of Jake, who is on a journey to discover himself when he unexpectedly meets Chris, a kindred soul working a night shift at a Costco in a rural American town. As the pair's bond deepens, so does their sense of adventure.
Writer Hunter said of the play: 'I couldn't be more excited to bring Clarkston to London audiences, especially with this phenomenal cast and creative team.
'I've always adored the UK's theatre scene, so being able to share this play with audiences in the West End is truly a dream come true.
'This play draws from themes of the vast and isolated American West and the colonial past of the United States, but it's fundamentally a story about love and friendship in the midst of an unknown future, which is a pretty
universal story these days.'
Locke starred in all three seasons of Netflix's teen drama Heartstopper as Charlie Spring, a gay teen boy who falls in love with his classmate Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).
The Manx star was nominated for outstanding lead performance at the Children's And Family Emmy Awards in 2022 for his role in the show.
The actor has also appeared in Marvel's Agatha All Along miniseries and made his Broadway debut last year in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.
Further details, including ticket sale dates, are yet to be announced.

American football Superman range drops as DC film hits cinemas

James Gunn's Superman reboot has finally landed in cinemas, with David Corenswet starring as the eponymous Man of Steel It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman. The Man of Steel is back today (July 11) as DC's latest superhero blockbuster finally lands in cinemas. The new adaptation sees Twisters star David Corenswet take on the role of Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. It marks the first feature release since the formation of DC Studios, overseen by former Marvel man James Gunn. The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker now serves as co-CEO of the studio, as well as writer and director of Superman. To celebrate the film's release, Fanatics and Warner Bros. DC have joined forces to launch a Superman clothing line consisting of t-shirts, American football jerseys and more, each inspired by college football. Among the items is the Superman American Football Jersey (£65). Ideal for Superman and NFL fans alike, this Clark Kent jersey is designed in the style of a classic college football jersey, emblazoned with '38' on the chest and back, celebrating Superman's 1938 debut. There's also a rival Lex Luthor American Football Jersey (£65) for fans of Superman's archenemy. The Superman Varsity Jacket (£150) draws on classic US college heritage with its Superman-inspired design, featuring sewn-on 'Metropolis Athletics' lettering. Again, those with a villainous streak may prefer the black Lex Luthor Varsity Jacket (£150) with its textured Lexcorp logo. Fans can represent Superman's city with the grey Superman Collegiate T-Shirt (£30) or red Superman Collegiate Hoodie (£55), both featuring college-style sewn-on Metropolis Athletics text. Fanatics isn't the only place to pick up Superman merchandise, with Amazon stocking items such as the Superman S-Shield T-Shirt (£14.39) and Funko POP! Superman Collectable Vinyl Figure (£15.40). There's also the nifty Fortress of Solitude Light (£49.99) from tech and toy retailer I Want One of Those. But Fanatics has won over shoppers on Trustpilot, where one five-star review says: 'Great quality products, great price and impeccable customer service.' Another says: 'First experience with Fanatics and I'm impressed. Good quality and good communication. I'll definitely use Fanatics again.' A more mixed review says: 'Ordering really easy, however, I did ask for the fastest delivery but this still took four days.' But another glowing review says: 'Always have had a great experience with Fanatics. They also always deliver on great products.'

A Quebec tourism ad is making Americans emotional but not for the reason you think

Know anyone in the U.S. who needs a hug? An ad from the Eastern Townships tourism board offering hugs to Americans visiting Quebec has gone viral, even scoring a celebrity endorsement from an Academy Award winner. The Eastern Townships, just north of Vermont and a short drive from Boston and New York City, is one of our favourite getaways. The 'Come Hug It Out' ad campaign, which shows an American tourist approaching the front desk at a hotel. 'Sorry, I don't speak French. I'm just visiting,' he says, before leaning in and adding in a whisper: 'I'm American.' Without missing a beat, the clerk reaches under the desk and presses a red button — which swings open the counter, allowing her to step out and give him a warm hug. The lighthearted ad hints at the considerable political tension between Canada and the U.S., and arrives on the heels of a new US travel requirement in addition to the updated U.S. travel rules and safety advisories—plus a travel warning sharing risks and recommended precautions for U.S. citizens travelling to Canada. The post on Instagram shared the following message: 'What if this summer, we opened our arms wide to warmth, smiles, and genuine moments? In the Eastern Townships, hospitality isn't something we say — it's something you feel. Come hug it out in the Eastern Townships — Close to you. Far from ordinaire.' Online, viewers shared comments like: 'This American in Texas would like a Canadian hug, please.' Even actress Sharon Stone chimed in, leaving the message: "Thanks we need a hug." In a press release, Isabelle Charlebois, General Director of Tourism Eastern Townships, wrote: 'Our American guests are more than tourists, they're part of our story. This ad campaign is our way of saying: we appreciate you and we can't wait to welcome you again.'
