The heartbreaking news that Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, had passed shocked the football world this morning.

During the fans' emotional tribute, Portugal boss Neto was seen with tears in his eyes.
While a picture of Jota appeared on the big screen inside the stadium, alongside the words: "In memory of Diogo Jota. 1996-2025".
Players appeared emotional as they stood arm in arm during the moment of remembrance.

The pair lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Zamora, Spain in a Lamborghini when the vehicle's flat tyre suddenly burst and sent the car veering off the road, police believe.
Moments of silence were also held by clubs at the Club World Cup during their training sessions in the USA today, with Real Madrid, Chelsea and PSG all paying tribute to Jota and Silva.
Among Real Madrid's minute's silence was Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was Jota's teammate at Liverpool for five years, making almost 150 appearances together.
Included in PSG's tribute was Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, Joao Neves and Goncalo Ramos - all of whom played alongside Jota for the Portuguese national team.
Chelsea's Pedro Neto, who played with Jota for Wolves and Portugal, did not train in the wake of his news about his friend.
Jota had got married just 10 days ago to his long-term partner Rute Cardoso and the couple have three children, Dinis, Duarte, and a daughter who was born in 2024.
Personal tributes have also been flooding in for the Jota, including one from Alexander-Arnold.
The England right-back wrote: "Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything.
"For Rute, his children, and his parents, all of our hearts are broken. And for Andre as well. Brothers and best friends.
"When it's less painful, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile. So many laughs and happy moments. He was such a great teammate and a true friend.
"Forever number 20. Rest in peace, Diogo."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot also paid tribute to Jota, describing feelings of "shock and pain" that are "so incredibly raw".
The title-winning boss added: "For us as a club, the sense of shock is absolute. Diogo was not just our player.
"He was a loved one to all of us. He was a teammate, a colleague, a workmate and in all of those roles he was very special.
"I could say so much about what he brought to our team but the truth is everyone who watched Diogo play could see it. Hard work, desire, commitment, great quality, goals. The essence of what a Liverpool player should be.
"There were also the parts that not everyone got to see. The person who never sought popularity but found it anyway.
"Not a friend to two people, a friend to everyone. Someone who made others feel good about themselves just by being with them. A person who cared deeply for his family.
"The last time we spoke, I congratulated Diogo on winning the Nations League and wished him luck for his forthcoming wedding.
"In many ways, it was a dream summer for Diogo and his family, which makes it all the more heartbreaking that it should end like this."
Fellow Liverpool icons such as Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and David James have all also paid their respects.

Too soon to say if Mbappe will start against Dortmund, Alonso says

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, July 4 (Reuters) - It is too soon to say whether Kylian Mbappe will start in Real Madrid's Club World Cup quarter-final match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, coach Xabi Alonso said, as the French forward continues his recovery from gastroenteritis. Mbappe made his tournament debut on Tuesday as Real Madrid edged Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals after missing all of the group stage. "He's getting better. He's been improving over the last three days," Alonso told reporters at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Friday. "Tomorrow morning we will be deciding if he will be part of the initial 11." Mbappe came off the bench as a substitute in the second half of the Spanish side's 1-0 win over Juventus in Miami on Tuesday, earning wild applause in a scene that underscored his global appeal at the U.S.-hosted tournament. Mbappe was briefly hospitalised early in the tournament, isolated from his teammates as he recovered. Alonso's team have leaned on Gonzalo Garcia to deputise in his absence, as the 21-year-old academy graduate has recorded three goals - including Tuesday's winner - and an assist in a breakout performance at the competition. "I think (Garcia and Mbappe) could complement each other and if it's something that is required, it's not something I'm going to turn a blind eye to," said Alonso. They face a Dortmund team in solid form on Saturday, after the German side held off a stirring second-half fightback from Monterrey 2-1 this week to book their spot in the final eight. "Dortmund is a very good team. As soon as (coach Niko Kovac) was at the helm, they were growing and developing and on the rise," said Alonso. "We are facing a tough opponent... It's gonna be tight tomorrow."

Nuno Borges dons black ribbon as Jota tribute after football top request denied

Instead he wore a black ribbon pinned to his hat during Friday's third-round defeat against Karen Khachanov, but said his team had initially pushed for a more visible tribute. 'I know Wimbledon is usually not very flexible with attire,' Borges told the PA news agency. 'But I was told we could still do something to pay our respects for what happened, so I think it was a nice gesture. 'He was a great footballer. It was a tragedy.' Borges, who lost a five-set thriller to the 17th seed, said his agent contacted Wimbledon about the idea of wearing a Portugal shirt, and even tried to source a white version to comply with dress rules, but it was not approved. 'We initially talked about getting a full jersey to walk on court,' he said. 'I even tried to find one in white, but it was turned down, so we ended up doing something a little smaller.' Asked if Wimbledon should have allowed the shirt, he said: 'I think that's what makes Wimbledon special and different from every other slam, so I really don't know.' Wimbledon relaxed its 148-year-old dress code in light of Jota's death, allowing players to wear black ribbons or armbands. Borges was among several players who did, including fellow Portuguese doubles player Francisco Cabral. Cabral, who wore a ribbon on his shirt sleeve during a doubles match with Lucas Miedler, said: 'Yesterday the idea of wearing a black strap came up – that was not allowed. 'I asked for permission to use the black ribbon and they let me play with it.' He described it as 'an honour', adding: 'It was not for the best reason – he was an inspiration not only for me but for the country in general. 'He made so much in the sport and conquered so much in my life. If I helped 1% for the family I will be super happy.' Cabral and Miedler lost their second-round match in straight sets to Czech pair Petr Nouza and Patrik Rikl. Wimbledon's dress code has long restricted visible colour on court, and tributes are rarely granted. The gesture marked a rare moment of flexibility from organisers, after the deaths of Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who were killed in Spain while travelling to catch a ferry to England. British doubles player and Liverpool fan Neal Skupski had also taken a black armband for his match on Thursday, but opted not to wear it after learning of the death of his grandmother shortly after coming off court. He said he may wear one 'in the next couple of days'.
