Actress Malavika Mohanan recalls terrifying moment in Mumbai local train: 'We were just 3 young girls'
actress
Malavika Mohanan
begs to differ. In a candid and deeply personal conversation with Hauterrfly, Malavika shed light on the everyday anxiety women face, especially during their early years navigating public spaces. Her story isn't just a reflection of her own experiences but echoes the concerns of many women who live, work, and travel in the city.
Malavika recalled a disturbing incident from her college days that continues to haunt her. Travelling on a local train around 9:30 pm with two close friends, she was in what's presumed to be a safe space—the first-class women's compartment. 'The train was quite empty. We were sitting near one of the window grills, chatting, when a man walked up to the window, stuck his face right up against the bars and said, 'Ek chumma degi kya?'' she shared. 'We froze… We were just three young girls, completely vulnerable.'
She added that while today she feels safer thanks to
personal transport
and a driver, her past experiences paint a far more complicated picture. She feels that it's always felt like a matter of luck, hoping that her commute would be uneventful.
While discussing the improvement of safety on film sets, Malavika Mohanan emphasised the need for both practical infrastructure and a more empathetic approach. She pointed out that providing essentials like pick-up and drop services, along with proper hygiene facilities, should be the norm. However, she emphasised that the more pressing issue lies in how women's concerns are often overlooked or dismissed. According to her, real change will only begin when women are genuinely heard and their experiences taken seriously.
About Malavika's upcoming work
Malavika Mohanan has wrapped up filming for Sardar 2, the sequel to the 2022 spy thriller Sardar. Sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the Thailand shoot on Instagram, Malavika called the project a "mad ride" and praised co-star
Karthi
and director PS Mithran for the experience. She noted that the role was unlike anything she had done before. A day earlier, Karthi had also announced the film's wrap with crew pictures.
Sardar 2
features Karthi in dual roles and also stars Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, and Rajisha Vijayan. The film is expected to hit theatres soon.

Pasta with Strawberries? Iga Swiatek Reveals Her Unusual Take On Wimbledon Snack
Last Updated: Swiatek shared her love for pasta with strawberries and yogurt, claiming Polish strawberries are better than British ones, sparking playful controversy. Iga Swiatek cruised past Danielle Collins in their third-round match on Centre Court Saturday, showing few signs of struggle on the grass. But it wasn't her dominant performance that stirred conversation — it was her post-match revelation about one of her favorite meals. Pasta with strawberries 🍓 @iga_swiatek 's favourite meal is an interesting one 😂 #Wimbledon — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 5, 2025 A Wimbledon Classic — With a Twist Each year, the All England Club estimates that more than 35 tons of strawberries — typically served with cream — are consumed during the tournament. The beloved treat is such a symbol of Wimbledon that strawberry-themed merchandise can be found throughout the grounds. Swiatek, however, introduced an unexpected variation during her on-court interview: 'You should try it, guys — pasta, strawberries, a little bit of yogurt." Later, she doubled down by posting a photo on Instagram of a bowl containing exactly that. Iga Swiatek shares a photo of her favorite meal, pasta and Lord. 😭😭😭😭 — The Tennis Letter (@TheTennisLetter) July 5, 2025 The dish, known in Polish as makaron z truskawkami, literally translates to 'pasta with strawberries." It's a sweet summertime staple in Poland, typically made with noodles topped with blended or mashed strawberries, sugar, and a creamy ingredient like sour cream, heavy cream, or — in Swiatek's case — yogurt. 'Why is it such a big thing? Everybody should eat that," said Swiatek with a grin after her win over Collins. 'I think in summer, kids are eating it a lot. I don't know. It's just a perfect mix of tastes." Polish Strawberries > British Strawberries? Asked whether Poland or England has better strawberries, Swiatek didn't hesitate. 'Honestly, I think Poland," she said. 'Because we have better climate for strawberries, right?" Then, smiling again, she added: 'Now Wimbledon is probably going to ban me from answering these questions."

Burberry's mesmerising vinyl records are nothing short of an optical illusion
Burberry has taken a stylish detour into the world of music and it's turning heads for all the right reasons. Known for its iconic trench coats and timeless check patterns, the British fashion house recently dropped something entirely unexpected: a set of custom vinyl records. But these aren't your average LPs - they double as optical illusions. And fans online can't get enough. While spinning-record illusions aren't a new concept, Burberry's take feels sleek, hypnotic and incredibly on-brand. The records feature animated designs that come alive when played – offering a fascinating blend of music, art and motion. The first vinyl includes a reinterpretation of Burberry's classic check pattern. As it turns out, the record creates a looping illusion to the tune of Liquid's 1992 rave hit, Sweet Harmony. It's part of a collaboration with artist Drew Tetz, who specialises in phenakistoscope-style animation – a technique that predates cinema and uses spinning discs to create moving images. The second design focuses on the Equestrian Knight, one of Burberry's oldest and most recognisable logos. Set in a repeat pattern, the knight appears to gallop in motion once the vinyl spins, bringing the historic symbol to life in a new, modern way. Reactions online were swift. 'I desperately need this to be a real record,' one fan wrote. Another added, 'I need it right now in my vinyl collection.' On Instagram, many praised the concept as a branding masterstroke, with one user commenting, 'Burberry are smashing socials rn (sic).' Beyond the design world, the release also taps into music nostalgia and Gen Z's vinyl revival. It's rare to see a fashion brand jump into physical media in such a striking, tactile way – and rarer still to do it this well. So far, there's no word on whether the records will be made available for public purchase, but that hasn't stopped the buzz. Between the clever visual trickery and the high-fashion aesthetic, Burberry's vinyls are already a collector's dream in the making. Yes, some illusions can hint at how you perceive the world and process visual information. Rubin's Vase and the Dress are among the most famous optical illusions in popular culture. They reveal how our brain can misinterpret visual cues like shape, motion, and depth. It's a visual trick that causes you to see something that differs from reality.
