Israeli PM says to brief army on Gaza war plan Jerusalem

TDT | Jerusalem Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised Monday to update Israel's Gaza war plan, a day before a UN Security Council meeting on the fate of hostages still held in the Palestinian territory. Addressing a cabinet meeting nearly 22 months into the war, the Israeli leader told ministers that later in the week he would instruct the military on how 'to achieve the three war objectives we have set'. Netanyahu's announcement comes as he faces increasing pressure to return the remaining hostages in Gaza, as well as mounting international calls to address the dire food situation in the Gaza Strip. Israel -- backed by the United States and Panama -- is preparing to convene a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday to highlight the fate of the hostages. At the weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu reiterated that Israel's three war goals remain 'the defeat of the enemy, the release of our hostages and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel'. His statement came after hundreds of retired Israeli security chiefs wrote to US President Donald Trump to urge him to convince Netanyahu to end the war. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said ahead of the UN session in New York that 'the world must putan end to the phenomenon of kidnapping civilians. It must be frontand centre on the worldstage'. Of the 251 hostagesseized during Hamas'sOctober 2023 attack onIsrael, 49 are still held inthe Palestinian territory, including 27 the Israelimilitary says are dead.

Bahrain's Islamic Council Condemns Gaza Starvation Tactics and Calls for Ceasefire

The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs held its 29th regular session of the fifth term today, Tuesday, chaired by Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the Council's Chairman. At the start of the meeting, the Council praised the unwavering royal support for mosques and Islamic endowments across Bahrain. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has continuously cared for the construction, maintenance, and allocation of land for mosques and endowments in every city and village. The Council also appreciated the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for its continued efforts in this regard. The Council emphasized that this support reflects Bahrain's deep belief in the mosque's vital role in Muslim life, as a place to promote values and reinforce social unity. It also commended the generosity of Bahraini philanthropists, who actively contribute to endowment projects and mosque development. The Council reviewed updates on its plans to enhance mosque services, encourage charitable endowments (waqf), and support ongoing mosque construction projects. Members reiterated that endowments are among the most rewarding charitable acts, benefiting society through continuous good deeds and social solidarity. On regional developments, the Council strongly condemned Israel's ongoing violations against holy sites and international laws, and its policies that endanger security and peace. It denounced the starvation tactics targeting the people of Gaza, which have claimed the lives of many innocent civilians, including the elderly, women, and children. The Council called for an urgent and responsible international stance to protect civilians, ensure the rapid flow of humanitarian aid, lift the blockade on Gaza, and implement an immediate ceasefire. It also welcomed the efforts of Saudi Arabia to secure international recognition for an independent Palestinian state, affirming that the Palestinian cause remains central to the hearts of all Muslims. In addition, the Council reviewed the conclusion of the sixth session of the 'Tafsir Councils' program, led by Dr. Khalid bin Saad Al-Mutrafi, former professor of Quranic studies at Qassim University. The sessions, held at the Ahmed Al-Fateh Islamic Center from June 27 to 30, brought together over 290 participants, including Quran teachers and students of Islamic studies. Over the course of six sessions, 227 lessons were recorded, covering interpretations from Al-Fatiha to Al-Ma'idah, which have been uploaded to the Quran Teachers Institute's YouTube channel. The Council expressed deep appreciation for this effort and prayed for the successful completion of the program to cover the entire Quran. The session concluded with the review of correspondence and requests, with the necessary actions taken.
