The Israeli military stated that it had conducted strikes on several Hezbollah military compounds in eastern Lebanon, including training sites linked to the group's elite Radwan Force.
These latest attacks represent the deadliest since a ceasefire ended a prolonged year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, including a two-month war that significantly weakened the armed group's capabilities.

Syrian minister unveils three-phase plan to restore stability in Sweida

Syrian Information Minister Hamza Al-Mustafa said on Saturday that the measures taken by the government in Sweida aim to protect civilians and prevent further escalation, following months of unrest in the southern governorate. Mustafa stated that Damascus responded to calls from international mediators to avoid a military confrontation or a full-scale war, which he said could derail Syria's development path. However, he accused armed groups in Sweida of taking a 'provocative' approach, engaging in acts of revenge and systematic displacement. The state is responsible for protecting all citizens, Mustafa stressed, adding that the unrest in Sweida was not new and that political solutions had been pursued from the outset. He said the chaos fueled by elements of the Military Council had deepened existing social tensions. The minister outlined a three-phase plan to restore stability in Sweida: Phase one: Deploying internal security forces as peacekeepers in the western and northern countryside and along key roads outside major cities to prevent clashes. Phase two: Opening humanitarian corridors between Daraa and Sweida to facilitate the safe passage of civilians, the wounded, and anyone wishing to leave the area. Phase three: Gradually restoring state institutions and expanding the presence of internal security forces once the ceasefire is consolidated, to return to normal life and enforce the rule of law. Mustafa said the plan reflects the state's national duty and commitment to Syria's unity. He stated that the unity and liberation of Syria are the aspirations of all Syrians. The absence of the state has proven to be the problem, while its presence is the solution. The minister also accused armed factions in Sweida of rejecting political solutions and operating with a 'closed mindset' that disregards Syria's territorial integrity. He confirmed that security forces would work to enforce the law and ensure the release of detainees on both sides of the conflict. Mustafa concluded by urging all parties to act responsibly. He added that the state always seeks political solutions, even at the expense of many issues. Syria, according to Mustafa, can accommodate all its people, and needs rationality and a unifying national discourse.

Syria President Sharaa renews pledge to 'protect minorities' after Sweida clashes end

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Saturday affirmed the country's commitment to "protecting minorities" and holding all "violators accountable, regardless of their affiliation," following a week of violence in the Druze-majority province of Sweida that killed more than 700 people. "The Syrian state is committed to protecting all minorities and sects in the country and is proceeding with holding all violators accountable from any party whatsoever," al-Sharaa said in a televised address after the ceasefire in Sweida. He added, "No one will escape accountability, and we disown all crimes and transgressions that occurred... We emphasize the importance of achieving justice and enforcing the law on everyone." Al-Sharaa's remarks came after the Syrian presidency declared an "immediate" ceasefire, coinciding with the deployment of security forces in Sweida province to "stop the chaos." Hours earlier, Washington had announced a ceasefire agreement between Syria and 'Israel' following 'Israeli' airstrikes targeting official headquarters and government forces in Damascus and Sweida. The US envoy to Damascus, Tom Barak, had urged "Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to lay down their arms." In his speech broadcast on state television, al-Sharaa commended "the great role played by the United States of America in affirming its stand with Syria in these difficult circumstances and its keenness on the country's stability," praising the efforts of Arab nations, Turkey, and other parties. Al-Sharaa stated that the 'Israeli' strikes, amidst clashes between Druze gunmen and Bedouin tribesmen, pushed Syria "to a dangerous stage that threatens its stability, as a result of the blatant bombardment of the South and government institutions in Damascus." Al-Sharaa criticized in his speech the "narrow interests of some individuals in Sweida," considering that "seeking strength from abroad and some internal parties using Sweida as a tool in international conflicts does not serve the interests of Syrians but rather exacerbates the crisis and threatens the country's unity." He also criticized the actions of "some groups" from the tribes who "tried to defend themselves unilaterally," stressing that these "actions cannot be a substitute for the role" of the state, which is "alone capable of preserving its prestige and sovereignty in every part of Syrian territory." Al-Sharaa called on all Syrians for "unity and full cooperation to overcome what we are all going through and preserve our country and land from external interventions or internal strife."

Syrian Presidency Announces Immediate and Comprehensive Ceasefire in Sweida - Jordan News

The Syrian Presidency announced a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire in the city of Sweida, in a statement released on Saturday, citing the need to spare Syrian blood and preserve the unity and integrity of the country's territory and people. اضافة اعلان 'In light of the delicate circumstances the country is going through, and out of concern for the blood of Syrians, the unity of Syrian territory, and the safety of its people, and in response to national and humanitarian responsibility, the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic announces a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire,' the statement read. The presidency urged all parties to give space to the Syrian state, its institutions, and its forces to implement this ceasefire responsibly, in a way that ensures stability and puts an end to the bloodshed. It also called on all parties, without exception, to fully comply with the decision, immediately halt all hostilities in all areas, ensure the protection of civilians, and facilitate the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid. The statement added that security forces had been deployed in several areas to enforce the ceasefire, maintain public order, and protect citizens and their property, thereby supporting de-escalation and stability. The presidency warned that any violation of the ceasefire would be considered a clear breach of national sovereignty and would be met with the necessary legal measures in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws. The province of Sweida has been witnessing violence for nearly a week following clashes between Bedouin tribal fighters and Druze factions—a religious minority also present in Lebanon and Israel. The death toll from the violence in Sweida has risen to 718, according to an updated tally reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Saturday.
