Chiefs Inexplicably Left Off Super Bowl Contender List For 2025
Apparently, it is easy to forget that just one game of football ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were being talked about as possibly one of the greatest teams ever in football, as they were chasing a third straight Super Bowl win.

But the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles has seen many fans and media alike jump off the Chiefs bandwagon ahead of the 2025 season.
Some have a regression from the 15-2 record, which is low-hanging fruit because achieving that in back-to-back years is a tough feat. The offensive line issues, coupled with the narrative that Patrick Mahomes has "peaked," all contribute to the belief that the Chiefs are done.
And now we have Fox Sports' Jason McIntyre, who went listing teams who can win the Super Bowl on The Herd, he only came up with six, and two from the AFC, in the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
But the Chiefs weren't mentioned.

It is easy to forget that Mahomes has beaten both the Bills and Ravens in the playoffs in the last two seasons, so there's that. However, it appears that the Chiefs' dominant aura has been tarnished by the Super Bowl loss, coupled with the roster weaknesses that many believe will be the catalyst for a poor 2025 season.
However surely the Chiefs are at least in the conversation to be Super Bowl winners, right?
Having won the AFC for three straight seasons, won two Super Bowls, and been to a third in that time frame, we think the defending conference champs deserve at the very least to be mentioned.

The Chiefs didn't need more motivation ahead of the new year, but they just got more.

Yankees right-handed pitcher Luis Gil impresses in his second rehab start, nears return
ATLANTA (AP) — Yankees manager Aaron Boone watched right-handed pitcher Luis Gil's second rehab start on video and said Saturday he was pleased with what he saw. 'Stuff was good, decent command,' said Boone, who watched a recording of Friday's game on Saturday morning. 'More importantly, another step and kind of building that pitch count into 57 pitches.' Gil threw 3 1/3 innings for Double-A Somerset, striking out seven while allowing two hits and two runs. He gave up a two-run homer in the first inning. Gil threw 39 of his 57 pitches for strikes. He is scheduled for one more minor league start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday before possibly making his 2025 debut with the Yankees. 'I think the fastball is playing,' Boone said. 'You see the jump on that fastball seemed like last night he was kind of in that, kind of living in that 95 range. I think I saw him up to 97 but it was like that live, you know, he's getting to where he wants it.' Gil suffered a strained lat in spring training that has kept him out of the Yankees rotation all season. Jets place DE Jermaine Johnson on active/PUP
The Jets placed edge rusher Jermaine Johnson on the active/physically unable to perform list Saturday, the team announced. Johnson tore his right Achilles in a Week 2 game against the Titans, but he is expected to be ready for the 2025 season opener. He gave an update after the Jets announced their pre-camp transactions. "I will be on PUP because the team wants to move slow to be safe, which I agree with. Not because I'm not ready. All is well," Johnson wrote on social media. Johnson, the 26th overall pick in 2022, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 when he totaled 7.5 sacks, 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. The Jets also placed wide receiver Irvin Charles on the active/PUP list. Charles, a core special teams player, tore an ACL on a punt-coverage snap against the Dolphins last December. At that time, his five tackles on special teams tied for team lead. Rookie linebacker Aaron Smith received an active/non-football injury/illness designation. His injury or illness is undisclosed. The South Carolina State product signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in April after leading the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with 92 tackles in 2024.

Connor Zilisch wins rain-shortened NASCAR Xfinity race at Dover
It was a surprisingly clean NASCAR Xfinity race at Dover Motor Speedway, and it never made it to the scheduled distance. When the rain arrived, Connor Zilisch was out front of the field. With more rain around daylight fading at a track without lights, NASCAR was forced to call it. Driving the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, Zilisch collected his fifth career Xfinity win and his fourth of the 2025 season. He surpasses Kyle Busch as the youngest driver to reach five career wins, doing it all before his 19th birthday. Aric Almirola finished second, Brandon Jones third, Justin Allgaier fourth, and Jesse Love fifth. Ryan Sieg, Taylor Gray, Sheldon Creed, William Sawalich, and Christian Eckes filled out the remainder of the top ten Gray led the race from pole position, winning the opening stage without issue. However, a messy pit stop cost him a lot of his track position with Zilisch emerging as the new race leader. Zilisch dominated Stage 2 and while Almirola got close near the very end, he was not able to mount a true challenge. At the start of the third stage, both Ross Chastain and Nick Sanchez fell out of the race with mechanical issues. Chastain said "the gear broke" when asked by The CW what happened. Chastain ended up finishing last (38th) in his worst NXS result since 2017. Kyle Sieg stayed out for the final stage, but he was quickly swallowed up by those who chose to pit at the end of the stage. Zilisch continued to lead as rain approached, forcing a yellow flag with 69 laps to go. NASCAR chose to red flag the event a few laps later, bringing the entire field down pit road. This is the first NASCAR Xfinity race to be shortened by rain since the Chicago Street Course in 2023.
