India Cements Indian IT sector to witness soft growth in Q1 despite seasonal strength, says Report
According to a report carried by Equirus Securities, the Indian IT services sector is expected to experience a soft quarter growth (Q1FY26) despite the seasonal strength, according to a report released on Tuesday.
The report also says that IT companies' earnings are expected to be mixed across the board with a very soft quarter for ER&D services companies on a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis.
As per the report, TCS's US$ revenue is expected to dip QoQ by 0.4 per cent in CC terms. Tepid growth is largely due to the expected ramp-down in the BSNL deal and some softness in sales growth in international markets. What is expected from Ajim Premiji's Wipro?
Also, Ajim Premiji's Wipro US$ sales to dip by 2.6 per cent QoQ in CC terms, while HCL Tech US$ revenue growth is expected to be 1.4 per cent QoQ. What is expected from Tech Mahindra?
Tech Mahindra's US$ sales to dip 0.8 per cent QoQ sales in CC terms considering seasonal softness in Comviva and continuing softness in demand from some of the hi-tech clients, according to the report.

India VIX falls to 15-month low on no sharp market swings
Agencies Live Events (You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our ETMarkets WhatsApp channel Mumbai: Volatility Index or India VIX-the fear gauge of the Indian stock market-has dropped to its lowest level in 15 months, as the absence of sharp swings of late, a decline in US volatility, and falling derivatives options volumes have eased risk sentiment. The India VIX remained flat and ended at 11.2 on Thursday. The benchmark Nifty 50 index fell 100.60 points or 0.40% to close at 25,111."Indian markets are currently mirroring the US VIX, which is at a 7-8 month low, offering some relief to traders globally," said Ajit Mishra, senior vice-president, research, Religare Broking. "With limited domestic triggers and much of the earnings season already priced in, the index remains subdued."Since the start of July, Nifty has traded in a narrow 25,000-25,500 range, failing to break out in the absence of triggers. India VIX is a volatility index based on Nifty option prices. It uses the best bid-ask prices of Nifty options to calculate expected market volatility over the next 30 days. The index typically rises when traders expect bigger market swings and falls when markets appear the last month, India VIX is down almost 22%, whereas the benchmark Nifty 50 has edged up 1%. The Chicago Board Options Exchange's CBOE Volatility Index, which measures volatility based on US S&P 500 index options, is also down 19.7% over the past month. The drop in VIX could also be on account of a fall in trader participation in Nifty options."At first glance, this may seem like a sign of market confidence, but the reality points to suppressed hedging activity and reduced participation," said Dhupesh Dhameja, derivatives analyst, Samco Securities. "Traders have largely avoided buying deep out-of-the-money puts, keeping option premiums subdued and implied volatility low." Dhameja said reduced activity of global liquidity providers like Jane Street has led to lower derivative volumes and thinner option market depth, especially in far out-of-the-money contracts, which typically reflect macro risk VIX may not fully reflect what is happening across the market, as it tracks only the benchmark Nifty 50 and its large-cap constituents. "The market appears calm on surface, but history suggests that such low-volatility phases are often followed by sharp directional moves," said Dhameja. He said that for now, the trend may stay range-bound, but any spike in VIX could be a "signal worth watching closely."

Best stock recommendations today: MarketSmith India's top picks for 18 July
On Thursday the Nifty 50 declined 0.40%, weighed down by weakness in IT and BFSI stocks. Both the Sensex and Nifty erased early gains and turned negative by mid-day as investor sentiment turned cautious amid uncertainty around the future of US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell. Also, weak global cues, disappointing IT earnings, lack of clarity on the India-US trade deal, and continued FII outflows contributed to the sell-off. Two stock recommendations for today by MarketSmith India How the Nifty 50 performed on 17 July Markets were volatile on the weekly expiry day and ended nearly half a percent lower amid mixed cues. The Nifty opened flat and gradually drifted lower through the session, with a brief mid-day rebound failing to hold. The index eventually settled near the day's low at 25,111, down 0.40%. IT, PSU banks and private banks were the major draggers, while realty, pharma and metal stocks showed some resilience, though not enough to offset the overall weakness. Notably, the broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, ending almost flat. The advance-decline ratio remained balanced at 1:1, reflecting a neutral market breadth. Over the past four trading sessions, the index slipped below its 21-DMA. It continues to trade within a narrow range between the 21- and 50-DMA, indicating indecision in the near term. On the daily timeframe, the relative strength index (RSI) has turned upward and is now approaching 47-48, indicating a mild improvement in momentum. However, the daily MACD continues to trend with a negative crossover above the zero line, indicating a lack of strong bullish confirmation. According to O'Neil's methodology of market direction, Nifty reclaimed its recent high of 25,116. Hence, the market status has been upgraded to a Confirmed Uptrend as of June 11, 2025. The index once again failed to surpass 25,250 and closed lower near 25,100, just 100 points above its 50-DMA. On the downside, if the index fails to hold above its 50-DMA support at 25,000, it may slip further toward 24,900 and potentially 24,750. To regain bullish momentum, a decisive breakout and sustained close above 25,300 is crucial. If this level is breached, the index could advance toward the 25,600-25,700 resistance zone in the coming sessions. How did Nifty Bank perform? On Thursday, Nifty Bank ended its three-day winning streak on a weak note, closing lower and breaching its 21-DMA. The index formed a bearish candle on the daily chart, marked by a lower-high and lower-low price structure—indicating potential near-term weakness. The decline was broad-based, with all constituent banking stocks closing in the red. Notably, IndusInd Bank, Canara Bank, Federal Bank, and PNB were among the worst performers, exerting significant downward pressure on the index. The momentum indicator, RSI, has shown a mild downturn and is currently positioned at 53, indicating a neutral stance with a slight loss of upward momentum. Meanwhile, the MACD has formed a negative crossover but remains above the zero line—signaling that while the broader trend remains positive, cautious observation and further confirmation are needed before validating a renewed bullish strength. As per O'Neil's methodology of market direction, Bank Nifty remains in a "Confirmed Uptrend", a trend it has sustained over the past few weeks. At the current juncture, Nifty Bank has slipped below its 21-DMA, signaling the need for heightened caution in the near term. A sustained recovery above this level—particularly a decisive move past 57,000—will be critical for reinforcing the bullish outlook. Should the index manage to reclaim and hold above this threshold, it may open the door for an advance toward the immediate resistance at 57,200, with further upside potential extending to 57,650. On the downside, the 56,600–56,500 zone remains a key support area and is expected to provide a cushion against near-term pullbacks. Vigilant monitoring of these levels is essential for timely risk management and positioning. MarketSmithIndia is a stock research platform and advisory service focused on the Indian stock market. EU-India ties seen as safe investment amid weaponisation of trade, tech: EU envoy
The European Union-India relationship is on a firm upward trajectory and has emerged as a "safe investment" at a time when global dynamics around trade, technology, migration, and information are increasingly being "weaponised," EU Ambassador to India Herve Delphin said on at an event hosted by the Ananta Centre, Delphin described the recent visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU College of Commissioners to India as a "historic" and symbolic show of "confidence and trust" in the EU-India free trade agreement (FTA), which both sides aim to conclude by the end of 2025, could serve as a 'turbocharger' for economic cooperation, the envoy said. While acknowledging the complexities involved, Delphin stated, "There is a clear statement on both sides that not a single issue will block the whole lot. We will go ahead," He emphasised that both the EU and India are committed to a rules-based global order and share growing intersections of economic, political, and security interests. 'This partnership has grown organically,' he said, 'and when you see how trade, technology, migration, and energy are being weaponised, we represent for each other a safe investment.'Delphin also framed the EU as a 'collective force' navigating a turbulent global environment. He noted that major powers like Russia, China, and the U.S. pay close attention to the EU, often critically, which, he said, 'probably means that we matter.'Describing the EU's evolving posture, Delphin referred to what he called the "rearmament" of the bloc—military, economic, and societal. 'We have fundamentally changed our DNA,' he said. 'We remain an open and democratic society, but we don't want that openness turned into a vulnerability.'Referring to recent geopolitical events including Brexit and shifting US-EU relations under former President Trump, Delphin said the EU has managed to navigate a "series of crises" and is now 'readying itself for the new normal.'On the global stage, he noted that the EU and India are increasingly acting as 'bridgeheads' for broad coalitions, advocating democratic values, human-centric development, and resilience in the face of coercive tactics.'We both reject wars of aggression, global terrorism, and economic coercion,' Delphin said. 'As large democracies, we attach central importance to human values.'He also cited von der Leyen's words during her India visit, calling the EU-India relationship a 'consequential partnership' not only for both parties but for the wider world. 'We both stand to benefit,' Delphin said, 'and perhaps this is the time to truly deliver.'- Ends(With inputs from PTI)Must Watch
