Mistaken UPI transfer? Act fast: contact your bank or NPCI within 3 days to recover funds. Learn how to file complaints and what to do if recovery fails
As UPI (Unified Payments Interface) continues to grow in popularity across India, minor mishaps such as sending money to the wrong person are becoming increasingly common. However, there's no need to panic as there are clear steps to help you recover your funds if you act swiftly and correctly.
Act Promptly: Time Is Crucial
If you've accidentally transferred money to the wrong UPI ID, immediate action is essential. Start by taking a screenshot of the transaction as proof. Next, either call your bank or visit your branch in person and provide full transaction details, including both the sender's and recipient's information.
Alternatively, you can contact the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) helpline at 1800-120-1740 and lodge a complaint within three days of the transaction. The sooner you report the issue, the better the chances of recovering your money.
NPCI's Dispute Redressal Mechanism
NPCI will then investigate and take the necessary steps to help recover your money.
Know Your UPI Limits
Understanding UPI transaction limits can also help prevent accidental large transfers:
(Note: Actual limits may vary slightly by bank.)
If NPCI Doesn't Resolve Your Issue
If neither your bank nor NPCI resolves the issue within 30 days, you have the right to escalate the matter to the Reserve Bank of India's Banking Ombudsman. The Ombudsman acts as an independent mediator between you and the bank, aiming to resolve complaints within another 30 days. Complaints can be submitted online via the RBI's official website.
As digital payments become the norm, it's vital to stay informed about your rights and remedies. By acting promptly and following the correct steps, you can resolve UPI-related mistakes with minimal stress.

Indian aviation industry to report net loss of ₹30 billion in FY26: ICRA
New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): India's aviation industry is projected to record a net loss in the range of ₹ 20-30 billion in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), broadly in line with the estimated losses for FY2024-25 (FY25), according to the credit rating firm ICRA. The firm said in a report that these losses are expected to continue compared to a net profit of around ₹ 16 billion in FY2024 due to the anticipated pressure on yields as airlines strive to maintain adequate passenger load factors (PLF) amid continued aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The report stated that while demand for air travel remains robust, airlines are unlikely to raise ticket prices significantly due to competitive pressures and price sensitivity in the domestic market. This, coupled with costlier fuel, is expected to eat into profitability. Adding to the financial strain, interest costs are likely to rise in FY26 due to growing lease liabilities, as several airlines have scheduled aircraft deliveries. The increased debt burden is expected to raise financing costs, further compressing margins. Despite these challenges, the projected losses for FY26 are a marked improvement compared to the massive setbacks of the past. The industry had posted staggering net losses of ₹ 235 billion in FY22 and ₹ 174 billion in FY23, largely driven by COVID-19-related disruptions and fuel cost volatility. Financial resilience, however, is slowly improving. The sector's interest coverage ratio, a key indicator of its ability to service debt, is expected to range between 1.5 and 2.0 times in FY26, suggesting relatively stable debt-servicing capacity even amid bottom-line pressures. For June 2025, domestic air passenger traffic was estimated at 138.7 lakh, 5.1 per cent higher than 132.1 lakh in June 2024. However, it witnessed a marginal decline of 1.3 per cent on a sequential basis. The airlines' capacity deployment in June 2025 was 4.9 per cent higher than June 2024; however, it was 2.3 per cent lower compared to May 2025. For Q1 FY2026 (April-June 2025), domestic air passenger traffic was 422.4 lakh, reflecting a YoY growth of 5.1 per cent. For May 2025, international passenger traffic for Indian carriers was 29.7 lakh, a YoY growth of 7.3 per cent. However, it remained lower by 7.9 per cent on a sequential basis owing to geopolitical headwinds. For 2M FY2026, international passenger traffic for Indian carriers stood at 59.8 lakh, a YoY growth of 12.1 per cent. For FY2025 (April 2024-March 2025), domestic air passenger traffic stood at around 1,653.8 lakh, a YoY growth of 7.6 per cent.

US FCC approves two T-Mobile deals after wireless carrier drops DEI programs
WASHINGTON: The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has approved two T-Mobile deals that would expand the wireless carrier 's network, the commission said on Friday, after the company ended its diversity, equity and inclusion programs under pressure from President Donald Trump's administration. T-Mobile was allowed to buy almost all of regional carrier United States Cellular's wireless operations including customers, stores and 30% of its spectrum assets in a deal valued at $4.4 billion. In a separate transaction, T-Mobile was given a green light to acquire internet service provider Metronet , which reaches more than 2 million homes and businesses in 17 states. T-Mobile said in a letter to FCC Chair Brendan Carr made public on Wednesday that the company is ending its DEI-related policies "not just in name, but in substance." In January, Trump issued sweeping executive orders to dismantle U.S. government DEI programs, and pressured the private sector to join the initiative. U.S. antitrust enforcers approved T-Mobile's UScellular deal on Thursday.

GST notices based on UPI data: Tax department
BENGALURU: Following reports of notices issued to small traders by the Commercial Tax Department, the state government clarified on Friday that the action was based on data collected from Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service providers to ensure compliance with Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws. Under the GST Act, in force since July 1, 2017, suppliers with an annual turnover exceeding Rs 40 lakh (for goods) or Rs 20 lakh (for services) are required to register for GST. This turnover includes both taxable and exempt goods and services, although tax is applicable only on taxable items. The department said while essential items like bread are exempt from GST, packaged snacks attract a 5% tax. It said UPI-based transaction data from 2021–22 to 2024–25 showed that many traders had received over Rs 40 lakh via UPI alone, excluding cash and other payment methods, indicating even higher total turnover. Based on this data, the department issued notices to traders. ENS
