Verizon confirms bad news for customers via email — and there's already a backlash

Verizon customers aren't having the best week. First, we heard the carrier was planning to increase fees, and now it appears that Verizon is raising fees and removing discounts from some plans, leaving customers forced to spend extra money. This is likely to upset some people and potentially lead them to switch to one of the other top phone carriers, such as T-Mobile, AT&T, or any of the popular MVNOs, which can be significantly more affordable. The gigantic mobile carrier is pulling loyalty discounts from customer accounts on September 1, at least that's what emails posted on Reddit claim. "We are writing to let you know that a discount on your account will soon end. This discount will be removed no sooner than September 1, 2025. It is important to us to be upfront and transparent when changes are made to your account," reads the alleged email. Of course, Verizon reminds impacted customers that it continues "to invest in offering the very best experience and most value for your money in the industry," but that may not be good enough for some users who are frustrated by this change. One Reddit user said, "They're ending loyalty discounts, which was the only thing keeping me with Verizon. Guess I'm gonna port out." It appears Verizon wants to get customers on older plans to switch, and this could be another attempt to persuade them. In the email, the company even says, "We want to ensure you get the best value and experience from Verizon and encourage you to check out our myPlan options for the plan that works best for you." Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. It's a bold move from Verizon, as it could lead customers to port their numbers out instead of switching to myPlan. Perhaps people on the older plans with loyalty discounts aren't as profitable, and Verizon figures it's better to take the risk of losing them by moving them to more lucrative plans. But that's speculation. In the meantime, read why we recently updated our top pick for best phone carrier from Verizon to T-Mobile. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 does shockingly well in infamous bend test — there's just one problem

While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 might not be as expensive as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it is still a pricey piece of hardware. As such, we'd want to know just how durable the phone is, and it appears we have an answer thanks to one of the most well-known breakdowns on the web. In his most recent JerryRigEverything video, Zack Nelson tested the overall durability of Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip, including whether it can break by being bent the wrong way. The first test involves scratching the inner and outer displays with a mineral pick, each rated on the Mohs scale of hardness. The outer display, with its Gorilla Victus Glass 2, showed scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves appearing at a level 7, which is the same score we saw on the iPhone 16 Pro. However, the big question is about the durability of the inner screen, and, unfortunately, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 didn't score much better than the tests on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The inner screen begins to see scratches at level 2, meaning you could cause damage with a fingernail alone. This isn't a new issue and has been present with the Fold models since their inception. Thankfully, Samsung does offer one free replacement for the inner screen protector within the first 12 months, with any further replacements costing $20. According to Samsung, this process should not be attempted yourself, and doing so will likely void your warranty. While a softer inner screen isn't the best at a glance, Nelson points out that they're unlikely to get any harder in later models, and bets that Apple's foldable iPhone will likely have a soft inner display. One of the big fears around even the best foldable phones is that they'll break when you bend them too far in the wrong direction. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. In Nelson's prior video, we saw that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 doesn't, and we're happy to report that the same is true here. While there were some concerning clicks while he bent the phone, there was no noticeable damage to the screen or the phone's functionality. In addition to not breaking when bent, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 also demonstrated decent resistance to dust. There were some new creaks and groans after the phone had been showered in dirt, but the functionality wasn't impaired. Meanwhile, running a blade down the sides did lead to scratches — as we would expect — but the back panel was much more resistant. Finally, the redesigned camera covers were resistant to being popped off with the blade, which is better than we saw on the Galaxy S25. Overall, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 appears to be a very resistant phone, although we'd still recommend buying a case. If we add this to the wealth of other improvements like the larger display, longer battery life and access to Samsung DeX, then there's no doubt this is one of the best foldables you can buy. This killer new iPhone feature extends your battery life — but it's only available on these models

One of the more underrated features of iOS 26 is the new adaptive power mode that Apple introduces, which helps to extend the life of an iPhone by making 'small performance adjustments to extend your battery life.' Lowering screen brightness and 'allowing some activities to take a little longer' are just two examples of how it can do this. Unlike the existing low power mode, adaptive power mode continuously works 'when your battery usage is higher than usual.' While this is great news, this new power mode isn't available to all iPhones running iOS 26. Instead, it's limited to the best iPhones that support Apple Intelligence — which means an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and any of the current iPhone 16 models. Here's the full list: If you have anything older, like an iPhone 14 Pro Max, you're out of luck because it appears that adaptive power mode is an AI-powered feature. Usually AI-powered features are a bit more forward facing, like how generative AI is used with Image Playground to take text descriptions to create images, or how Visual Intelligence analyzes on-screen images, but this one's a bit tougher to swallow with adaptive power mode. Presumably iPhone 17 devices will offer adaptive power mode whenever they're released, considering how they'll likely be running iOS 26 out of the box. But still, having this feature exclusively tied to Apple Intelligence is a bummer for anyone without one. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Interestingly, the new Call Screen feature with iOS 26 that screens phone calls for you isn't actually powered by Apple Intelligence feature — but rather an evolution of Live Voicemail. For now, Apple's keeping the feature exclusive to Apple Intelligence. It could be that the A17 Pro and A18 chips used by these supported iPhones are better optimized to handle this task, which would explain this decision. iOS 26 is currently available as a public beta, with a full release tipped for the fall.
