Indiana Fever vs Los Angeles Sparks box score: Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Plum final stats
The Fever had a four-point lead with 1:43 left only to lose 89-87, ending a three-game winning streak again with Caitlin Clark sidelined with a left groin strain. The Fever are 3-2 in her most recent absence.
Two stout defensive performances were undone Saturday night against the Sparks, who won by 10 with a fourth-quarter comeback June 26, also at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Of two teams who love to score in the paint, the Fever gained the edge 46-42 But the Sparks stayed in the game with efficient 3-point shooting, knocking down 10 of 22 3s. There were 10 ties and 12 lead changes, including Rickea Jackson's go-ahead jump shot with 58.1 seconds left.
Caitlin Clark has not played in the Fever's last five games after suffering a left groin strain. It was the latest in an up-and-down season in which she missed time during the preseason, too.
Clark doesn't want to play on a minutes restriction, and coach Stephanie White said the Fever still value her long-term health. Clark did go through semi-live shooting drills and 3-on-3 action in Friday's practice.
'She's stated she's not a fan of minute restrictions,' White said after practice Friday. 'If there is going to be a minutes restriction, maybe we'll hold her another game. I prioritize her long-term health and wellness and making sure that when she comes back, she's 100%.'
The Fever host the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday, the Atlanta Dream on July 11 and Dallas Wings on July 13. The Fever then go on the road July 15 at the Connecticut Sun and July 16 at the New York Liberty before hosting the WNBA All-Star Game.

Indiana Fever 'even more dangerous' without Caitlin Clark, ESPN analyst and former Purdue coach says
The Indiana Fever have competed as second-year guard Caitlin Clark deals with a groin injury, recently winning three straight games, including the Commissioner's Cup championship game. Have the Fever discovered that they don't necessarily need Clark? ESPN's Carolyn Peck, who coached Purdue to the 1999 national championship, is impressed with how they've played in Clark's absence. Advertisement "I think that Indiana is even more dangerous when Caitlin Clark doesn't play because she's a ball-dominant guard," Peck said. "The ball's in her hands a lot, so you know what you need to try to take away. "But when you look at Indiana now, they have so many weapons and Kelsey Mitchell is playing out of her mind." Peck also praised Aliyah Boston's development in her third season, and newcomer Aari McDonald. "Indiana, they are a threat, particularly on the defensive end. (Fever coach) Stephanie (White) is so pleased with the intensity they bring defensively," Peck said. "They wreak havoc." Advertisement The Fever are 5-4 with Clark in the lineup this year. She has missed 10 games, including the Cup title game, due to injuries. Her season averages: 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals. A 3-point shooting drought just before her recent injury has dropped her to 29.5%. Aliyah Boston's Big Game in Caitlin Clark's Absence Didn't Go Unnoticed
Aliyah Boston's Big Game in Caitlin Clark's Absence Didn't Go Unnoticed originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever needed the rest of the team to step up on Saturday night amid another injury absence for cornerstone superstar Caitlin Clark. Advertisement Clark was forced to sit out again on Saturday against the Los Angeles Sparks as she continues to deal with a lingering groin injury. This was the 23-year-old's fifth straight missed contest, and there currently is no firm timetable for her return. Aliyah Boston got the memo, and the three-time All-Star came up big for Indiana. She dropped a game-high 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 32 minutes of action. Unfortunately for the Fever, not even Boston's strong performance was enough to spare them from their blushes. Despite the 6-foot-5 forward-center's heroics, Indiana still fell to L.A., 89-87. Boston's praiseworthy outing did not go unnoticed, though. The Fever took to social media after the final buzzer to announce the 23-year-old as the Stat Leader of the Game. Advertisement Boston has been on a tear this season, averaging a career-high 16.6 points on 59.7% shooting, 8.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 blocks in 29.9 minutes per game. Her strong play throughout the campaign led to Boston being voted as a starter in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis, where she will potentially be teammates with Clark, who was named an All-Star Game captain after receiving the most fan votes.
