Ex-Man Utd and Chelsea star Juan Mata turns to 11 football legends including Eric Cantona to help launch new career

JUAN MATA has launched a new 'unique art exhibition' involving 11 football players and 11 contemporary artists.
The former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder says he used to frequently visit art galleries in England when he wasn't training or playing.

Now, the 37-year-old is aiming to prove art and football are similar, working with artists to show how both ventures are used as forms of communication and as ways to bring people together.
Household names including former Manchester United star Eric Cantona and Red Devils and Lionesses midfielder Ella Toone are on board for the project called 'Football City, Art United'.
Each player has their own individual piece in the exhibition, and Mata feels each person working with him on the project had or still has an artistic way of expressing themselves on the pitch.
Mata, who now plays for Australian A-League Western Sydney Wanderers, told BBC Sport: 'One player that was an artist on the pitch, it has to be Eric Cantona. So I'm very glad he accepted, he loved it and he's very much involved in everything we do.

'Shinji [Kagawa], who is a good friend and has a very unique piece with an artist in Japan, where he's from.'
Former Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids is also involved.
Mata made 278 Premier League appearances during his time with Chelsea and then Manchester United.

The ex-Spain international won two Europa Leagues, two FA Cups and one League Cup with the top flight sides.
He then left Old Trafford and England in 2022, but is now back in Manchester to open his new exhibition to the city's people.

'I'm really excited for the people of Manchester to come and see it,' he said.
'It doesn't matter if you don't like football, or if you don't like art, but I think this is the best of both worlds and hopefully it will bring a lot of joy to everyone.'

Arsenal have agreed a £52m deal for the England international, who is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal. Madueke produced 29 goal contributions in 92 appearances for Chelsea, having joined the club from PSV Eindhoven back in 2023. The 23-year-old will be Arsenal's fourth summer signing after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard. Gyokeres goes on strike Viktor Gyokeres has effectively gone on strike in an attempt to force through a move away from Sporting Lisbon this summer. Arsenal remain the favourites to sign the striker, but they have so far failed to reach an agreement with Sporting. However, Gyokeres has now refused to turn up for pre-season training in an attempt to force Sporting's hand. Portuguese outlet Record have reported that a €5m (£4.3m) gap remains between the clubs after their latest talks, with the Gunners prepared to €65m (£56m) upfront plus future payments of €5m (£4.3m) and an additional €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons. Eze latest Mirror Football understands that Arsenal are poised to make a formal approach to Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze. Eze has a £68m release clause and the Gunners have held several rounds of talks with the player's representatives, CAA Base. Arsenal are hoping they can sign Eze for less than that, but Palace have no desire to accept a lower offer. ‘I was really dizzy': Enzo Fernández reveals scare in heat of Club World Cup
Enzo Fernández has said that the high temperatures at the Club World Cup are dangerous and revealed that he needed to lie down during Chelsea's win over Fluminense because the heat left him feeling 'really dizzy'. The Argentina midfielder is the latest player to criticise the tournament's scheduling and call for Fifa to make changes before the World Cup takes place in Canada, Mexico and the US next summer. Challenging weather conditions in the US have been a major talking point during the first edition of the expanded Club World Cup. Thunderstorms have caused delays to games, and teams have also had to deal with mid-afternoon kick-offs in intense heat. Temperatures were high when Chelsea faced Fluminense at 3pm in the first semi-final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey last Thursday. Local authorities had issued a heat warning and Fernández, who was conducting media duties before Chelsea face Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday's final, saying that he needed treatment in the second half will heap pressure on Fifa to consider late kick-off times at the 2026 World Cup. Marcus Rashford handed exit route as Viktor Gyokeres makes shock decision
Ruben Amorim has been frustrated by slow progress on transfer deals at Manchester United after seeing just one signing - Matheus Cunha from Wolves - arriving through the door at Old Trafford Manchester United have one signing through the door this summer, but they have no plans to stop there as Ruben Amorim continues revamping his struggling squad. So far, Matheus Cunha is the only player who has arrived at Old Trafford after being signed for £62.5million and there are some frustrations from fans over the lack of progress over other deals. United are still locked in talks with Brentford over a possible move for Bryan Mbeumo but have been unable to agree a fee. There are also a number of unwanted stars like Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho whose futures need finalising as the club look to balance the books and rake in more funds for transfers. With that in mind, Mirror Football has outlined some of the biggest Manchester United transfer stories and gossip. Barcelona make Rashford "priority" target Marcus Rashford will be desperate to make his exit from United this summer after being cast aside by Amorim, forced to train by himself away from the squad at Carrington. United did give Rashford extra time to find a new club following his short loan spell at Aston Villa last season - and now the England star may have found a solution. According to Sky in Germany, Barcelona had seen a bid for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz rejected and are now prepared to go "all-in" on Rashford. The report says boss Hansi Flick has already given the green light to the move, which Barcelona hope will be a loan deal. United might also have to subsidise a portion of Rashford's wages due to the player's eye-watering £325,000-a-week wages and he is said to be willing to lower his wage demands in order to secure an exit. Gyokeres reconsidering United move For months, Manchester United were being talked about as the leading frontrunners to sign Viktor Gyokeres, due to the striker's relationship with boss Amorim. The Portuguese coach helped turn the Swedish star into one of the deadliest strikers in world football but United's failure to qualify for European football saw them fall away from contention - with Arsenal stepping up as favourites. It's understood Arsenal are offering a package of €65m (£56m) plus future payments of €5m and €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons but are around £4m off of Sporting's valuation. Sporting have asked for a "cooling off period" before restarting talks and Gyokeres has reportedly had enough of being patient and has gone on strike at the club - refusing to turn up for the start of pre-season. And now Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha have claimed Gyokeres has opened the door to United once again and is giving the Red Devils a "second look" after being forced to wait to join Arsenal. United want to add another forward player alongside Cunha and would jump at the chance to sign Gyokeres, who netted 54 goals in 52 games last season, as they continue to reach an impasse in talks for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo "frustrated" over transfer delay Another player who has been left impatient over a move is United target Mbeumo, who the Red Devils have been in talks to such for much of the summer so far. United have had two bids rejected for Mbeumo, the latest being one of £62.5m - the same fee they paid for Cunha. It's understood Brentford are looking for more than £60m but want the full fee paid upfront, while United want to pay it in instalments. Mbeumo was Brentford's star player last season, netting 20 goals in the Premier League and is seen as a player who could overhaul United's fortunes. But United are yet to return with a third bid and the saga is threatening to drag out even further - causing "frustration" from Mbeumo. Cameroon coach Ashu Cyprian Besong said: 'Yes, obviously he's very frustrated with how long it's taken. But he's a professional and anticipates these things. I spoke to him about a week ago and he is very calm with everything that is going on. "But of course, he's already told them he wants to go to United. He just wanted the two clubs to find an agreement, as he's very grateful for the opportunity that he's been given by Brentford in his career."
