Arizona Cardinals' biggest surprise of offseason program is rookie LB, says ESPN
Every NFL team is currently on break as they get ready for training camps to open later this month. They all wrapped up their offseason programs and, as always, players impressed and surprised, even if some coaches won't say who specifically.
ESPN compiled a list of the players who were the biggest surprises of their offseason program.
For the Arizona Cardinals, believe it or not, it was not receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with his noticeably stronger physique.
Reporter Josh Weinfuss wrote that it was a rookie — fourth-round linebacker Cody Simon, their fourth-round pick out of Ohio State.
The 2025 fourth-round pick has made a quick impression on coach Jonathan Gannon in a short amount of time. He's taken on the responsibility of wearing the green dot, which has added to the steep learning curve that comes with a player's first year in the NFL, but Gannon has praised Simon's ability to learn quickly from his mistakes.
"He's definitely flashed here," Gannon said. "We got him playing a couple different spots, so that's good. He is playing on fourth down right now, so he is learning all that. He's eager to learn. He doesn't make mistakes twice and he's got juice. He's physical, just like all those guys. Long way to go. But I like where he is at."
We don't know how much he has practiced with the first team in the offseason, if at all, but we will see in training camp whether he can crack the defensive rotation. With Mack Wilson and Akeem Davis-Gaither the favorites to start at inside linebacker, Simon has a shot after he was the Buckeyes' leader and defensive quarterback for their national champion team.
He, along with second-round cornerback Will Johnson, have the best chances at earning a starting job as rookies.
We will see soon what the buzz is about in training camp and the preseason.

Where do Jacksonville Jaguars 'Prowler' uniforms rank among NFL throwbacks?
Where do the Jacksonville Jaguars 'Prowler' jerseys rank among other throwback uniforms across the NFL? Where do the Jacksonville Jaguars 'Prowler' throwback jerseys rank among the other teams' throwback uniforms across the NFL? Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports ranked all 21 of the recent throwback remakes that we've seen as of late. The Jaguars and their Prowlers found themselves in the top 10, coming in at No. 9 overall. "Jacksonville did 1990s NFL fans justice when it debuted its late 1990s uniform design to commemorate the team's 30th season in the NFL," wrote Kerr. "These uniforms were a carbon copy of the 1998 uniforms, with the 1998 logo on the side." The Jaguars brought back the Prowler uniforms last season to celebrate their 30th season in the NFL. The team wore them in Week 5 against Indianapolis and then again in Week 15 against the New York Jets. The throwback combo features a black helmet with the Jaguars' original logo, teal jerseys with a running Jaguar on the shoulder, and white pants. NFL teams are permitted to wear alternate jerseys up to four different times during the 2025 season. Executive Vice President Tony Boselli has already said that they will be sure to "maximize" anytime they can wear the Prowler uniforms. As of now, the Jaguars cannot change what their full-time uniform looks like, but when that time comes, the Prowlers could be making a full comeback. "We can't change them immediately to be a full-time jersey. Stay tuned," Boselli said on 1010XL, via Jaguars on SI. "We'll communicate that as we have the opportunity to at our next jersey change. But for this year, expect us to maximize. I believe it's four times that we can wear the Prowlers, and we're going to maximize and wear those Prowlers as much as we can."

Stephon Gilmore's shocking admission on college recruitment
New England Patriots legend Stephon Gilmore never played a snap on defense until his first year of college football at the University of South Carolina. Gilmore played at the quarterback position throughout high school, but when he had an opportunity to play in the defensive backfield at camps, he would shut everybody down. Perhaps it was fate's way of letting him know that he was playing in the wrong position. Advertisement That didn't stop Steve Spurrier, who was the head coach at South Carolina at the time, from trying to recruit him to play on the offensive side of the ball. "It was crazy because I played quarterback in high school. I didn't play no defense at all," Gilmore said on The Money Down Podcast. "I was a guy recruited as an athlete. Spurrier recruited me. He was like, 'Man, you should play receiver.' I'm like, 'Man, I don't want to play receiver.' My dad was like, 'Man, you're a corner. Just play corner.' Because I used to go to camps and shut everybody down, and I had never played corner." Spurrier never gave up on the dream of Gilmore playing on offense and even dialed up a few plays for him. However, once Gilmore started playing cornerback at the collegiate level, he never looked back. He earned the starting job right out of the gate and developed into one of the best players in the country. That ultimately led to an incredibly successful NFL career with a Super Bowl win, Defensive MVP, two First-Team All-Pro nods and five Pro Bowls.
