Concerns raised over rising cases of human trafficking at Mysuru event
He was speaking after inaugurating an event marking the 'World Day Against Human Trafficking' here on Wednesday. The event was organised by the Mysuru District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Office of the Superintendent of Police, and other departments.
Mr. Amarnath, who is also the member secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mysuru, said that people should be aware of the gravity of the situation and must reflect as to why or how the society has reached a point where it has become necessary to observe a day to mark human trafficking. This is a troubling sign as to where the society is headed, he added.
Attributing human trafficking to lack of education and sexual exploitation, Mr. Amarnath stressed the need to prevent it and explained the legal provisions under which such crimes are punishable, including the sections of law and the duration of imprisonment applicable.
Additional Police Commissioner Nagesh said public cooperation was crucial in preventing such crimes and pointed out the rising number of missing minors.
Mr. Nagesh said that in many cases, children are trafficked under the pretext of being cared for but are later forced into housework or other forms of labour, including sexual exploitation. He urged the people to be vigilant and report such cases to the police. 'Combating such crimes is not just the responsibility of the police; all departments must work together to effectively tackle them,' he added.
Officials from the District Health and Family Welfare Department, Department of Public Instruction, Department of Women and Child Development, District Child Protection Unit, Social Welfare Department, and others were present.

Khandre has assured that the issues of fertilizer shortage, dilapidated school buildings, and substandard food supplied to schoolchildren in Bidar would be taken up seriously and addressed on priority. Chairing the Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) quarterly review meeting at the Zilla Panchayat hall in Bidar on Friday, the Minister directed Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma, Zilla Panchayat CEO Girish Badole, Assistant Commissioners, and Executive Engineers to conduct inspections and certify the quality of all ongoing works. 'Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth ₹2,025 crore in the district. There should be close monitoring of the progress and quality of each of these projects,' the Minister said. Raising concern over poor SSLC and PU results in Bidar, Mr. Khandre ordered the formation of clusters to support students through focused coaching by expert teachers in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. He asked officials to identify top-performing teachers across taluks and initiate revision classes for SSLC and PU students for two months. Responding to complaints about the condition of school infrastructure, Mr. Khandre sought a detailed report from the Education Department on all dilapidated school and college buildings. 'Submit a file within a fixed deadline indicating whether the buildings can be repaired or must be rebuilt. Include the year of construction, estimated cost, and reasons for the early deterioration of these buildings,' he directed. On law and order Expressing shock over a recent case of sexual assault against a minor girl, the minister instructed DSPs to expedite investigations in all cases involving crimes against women and children. He also questioned whether CCTV cameras had been installed at crime-prone public locations and directed officials to take urgent steps to install them wherever lacking. 'Only when perpetrators are arrested, tried, and punished will such crimes be prevented,' he said. Focus on skilling and employment Acknowledging unemployment as a pressing concern, Mr. Khandre suggested that youth be given loans and encouraged to take up self-employment through government schemes. He added that since Bidar lacks natural resources for a full-scale industrial revolution, skill training should be aligned with job opportunities in the service sector. He also asked the Deputy Commsisioner and Zilla Panchayat CEO to personally inspect at least five development works each for quality assurance. During the meeting, MLA Shailendra Beldale raised concerns over reports of adulterated cooking oil and poor-quality food being served to students. He urged officials to inspect hostels and restaurants to ensure food safety standards. Silent protest held in Belagavi demanding release of arrested Kerala nuns
Members of various Christian organisations held a silent protest in Belagavi on Friday, demanding the immediate release of Kerala-based nuns and a tribal youth in Chattisgarh. They have been arrested on false charges and under controversial circumstances. They have been charged with human trafficking and conversion. They are false, they said. 'The nuns and the youth were held at Durg Railway Station on July 25 under Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 4 of the Chhattisgarh Religious Freedom Act (1968), which pertains to religious conversion through force or inducement. They were accompanying three adult tribal women, aged 18 to 19, looking for nursing jobs, from Narayanpur to Agra. The women had all signed parental consent letters and carried valid identification. The charge of human trafficking is false,' the memorandum said. The rally was organised by the Catholic Association of Belgaum and other Christian organisations. Over 400 participants, including priests, nuns, seminarians, and laypersons participated. Copies of the memorandum have been addressed to the President of India, and the Prime Minister. Community leaders like Philip Kutty, Clara Fernandes, Louis Rodrigues, Pramod Kumar, Pastor Ankalgi, Sister Lourdes Joseph, Nooruddin Mulla and others were present.

Tour operator abandons pilgrims during Amarnath trip, held
Jaipur: Fourteen pilgrims who thought they were headed for Amarnath pilgrimage were instead led into a scam after their tour organiser left them stranded mid-journey, endangering their lives. SHO (Shastri Nagar) Mahendra Singh Yadav said that the police arrested Sanjay Singh Naruka, 42, a tour operator who allegedly conned 14 Jaipur residents under the guise of an Amarnath pilgrimage package. The victims, led by complainant Kamal Kumawat of Shastri Nagar, paid Rs 8,500 each to Naruka of "Lucky Tour and Travels" in Subhash Colony. The trip began on July 11 and ended on July 17. But when the group returned, Sanjay was gone. His phone was switched off, and his office was locked. "The pilgrims did not have enough resources to find their way back as the accused promised that everything would be arranged for the trip. Instead, the victims were left stranded in tents and arranged money after much difficulty in an area where the phone network was weak," Yadav said. A case was filed at Shastri Nagar police station on July 22. The investigation team tracked the accused's phone, but he switched it off. However, a Cyber Cell team pulled his IMEI data and zeroed in on a fresh activation. Cops raided his rented hideout in Shiv Shakti Colony, Shastri Nagar. He wasn't there, but their search extended across Jaipur. On Thursday, they finally nabbed him. Naruka, originally from Alwar district, was trying to lie low after pocketing the funds. Police said he had no intention of refunding or responding to any of the travellers.
