Inspector arrested for rape, demanding sexual favours
SUNGAI PETANI: A 29-year-old police inspector from the Kuala Muda district police headquarters has been arrested for allegedly committing rape and soliciting bribes, including sexual favours. The officer, who is unmarried, was detained following two separate reports lodged on July 3 and 4, one of which was filed with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly abused his authority as an investigating officer to demand sexual favours from individuals involved in a case under his supervision. "I can confirm that the case is still under investigation. "In terms of disciplinary violations, we are conducting a joint probe with the MACC. "The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist with the investigation and will subsequently be handed over to the MACC for further action," he said today. The case is being investigated under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code. Hanyan said the investigation is focused on two possibilities: whether the officer abused his position as an investigating officer to coerce the victim, or whether the sexual act occurred without consent. "We suspect the officer may have used his authority and influence to obtain sexual favours from the victim," he added.
