N Chandrababu Naidu
on Monday tried to restore the strained relations with the Singapore govt and investors. Terming Andhra Pradesh as the premier investment destination, Naidu extended an invitation to investors and the Singapore govt to participate in the partnership summit to be held at Vizag in Nov.
Naidu, along with his team, participated in a roadshow hosted by the AP-Singapore Business Forum.
Speaking at the roadshow, Naidu recollected his long association with Singapore. From the development of Singapore City in Hyderabad in united AP to collaborating in the development of the Amaravati masterplan, Singapore has been a valued partner in AP's journey, said Naidu, urging the investors to explore investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh again.
Explaining the industry-friendly policies brought out by his govt, Naidu said that Singapore's development model was the guiding force for Vision 2047 Swarna Andhra Mission. "We are transitioning to green energy solutions while maintaining our investor-friendly, secure ecosystem. Developing logistic corridors connecting Amaravati, Vizag, and Tirupati remains a priority, alongside creating skilled workforce pipelines.

Full-fledged mining to start from Oct
Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said in the assembly that mining activities will begin on a larger scale in Goa from Oct this year. Sawant said that an auction for 12 mining blocks has been tendered, and mining has commenced in the case of three, while four other blocks are in the process of being auctioned and will be operational soon. 'Others are awaiting approvals from the director general of mines and safety, etc. We have carried out 29 e-auctions so far,' the chief minister said. 'We are trying to start sustainable mining in the state in a full-fledged manner at the earliest. We will auction the remaining four blocks, and two major blocks will become operational.' He said, 'We are serious about the restart of the mining industry. I am fully aware of the problems faced by people in the mining belt of the state.' The CM said unidentified dumps on govt lands will also be auctioned. He said that the restart of mining in South Goa is facing some hurdles due to the requirement of forest clearances, as most of these mines are within forest areas. Quepem MLA Altone D'Costa said that the people of South Goa are waiting eagerly for mining to restart in a sustainable manner. 'You first said the loss was Rs 35,000 crore and then brought it down to only Rs 350 crore,' he said. 'But more than 50% of the recovery is still pending.' Sawant, however, said that a committee has been formed to carry out the recovery and added that much of the pending amount has been recovered.

Consumers owe Rs 350cr in dues, says power minister
Panaji: Dues amounting to Rs 350 crore are pending from power consumers in the state. Govt consumers are the biggest defaulters, with Rs 142.7 crore pending, followed by commercial consumers who owe govt Rs 122.8 crore, and domestic consumers who owe Rs 85.4 crore. The information was provided by power minister Ramkrishna 'Sudin' Dhavalikar in a written reply in the assembly. His reply stated that 6,551 consumers owe the department more than Rs 1 lakh in dues as of June 2025. These include around 3,000 public services consumers, which comprise govt departments. These also include 300 electricity department connections of its various offices. Another 1,525 defaulters are commercial consumers, 1,718 are domestic consumers, and 500-odd are industrial consumers. Of the total 6,551, 2,968 connections are active. When asked about the steps taken to recover amounts from major defaulters, Dhavalikar said a 15-day notice is served to the consumers to pay arrears, failing which the connection is temporarily disconnected. Goa Public Universities Bill, spurred by NEP, to be tabled
Panaji: State govt will introduce the Goa Public Universities Bill, 2025, in the ongoing monsoon session of the assembly to provide for the establishment and collaboration of public universities in Goa to implement the goals of the National Education Policy, 2020. The cabinet granted approval to the bill on Tuesday, empowering state govt to fund public universities through the consolidated fund of the state, with an initial provision of Rs 25 crore. The universities will be established to implement the multidisciplinary approach, imparting quality, industry-relevant, and world-class higher education. They will also aim to transform higher education institutions into multidisciplinary institutions. The main thrust of the National Education Policy on higher education is to end the fragmentation of institutions by transforming them into large multidisciplinary universities, colleges, and higher education institution (HEI) clusters/knowledge hubs. Each of these plans to cater to 3,000 or more students. The ancient Indian universities of Takshashila, Nalanda, Vallabhi, and Vikramshila had thousands of students from India and the world studying in vibrant multidisciplinary environments. The bill aims to emulate the success of such large multidisciplinary research and teaching universities. The cabinet emphasised the fact that to implement the objectives of the National Education Policy, it is imperative to develop a roadmap for transformation. This is especially important considering the policy mandates that by 2035, all affiliated colleges must evolve into degree-awarding multidisciplinary autonomous institutions. This transformation can be achieved through collaboration in the form of institutional clusters, as envisioned in the National Education Policy. Hence, Goa intends to establish clusters of public universities.
