Why did tender leave Kate and Wills' superyacht to get George a 'specific dietary item'... from one of the few Greek islands with a McDonald's?
Sailing around the Greek islands with his family last month, the Prince and Princess of Wales 's eldest son George, 12, apparently fancied something off menu.
The royals had just left Kefalonia and were heading south in the Ionian Sea towards another island, Zakynthos. After dropping anchor some distance from the shore, a tender boat was despatched on a special mission.
It seems something had tickled young George's fancy. Sources remain tight-lipped about quite what it was – though one said tantalisingly: 'George required a specific dietary item which led to the tender going ashore in Zakynthos to purchase it. Nothing extravagant, just something particular.'
It is hard to conceive of what it was that couldn't be rustled up by the superyacht's chef. And presumably the kitchen received plenty of forewarning about the children's likes and dislikes.
Hard to imagine the yacht running out of ketchup, say, or chicken nuggets.
George is said to have a penchant for spaghetti carbonara, a straightforward dish by any standards. He and sister Charlotte, ten, are also partial to curry. Again, easily prepared.
Perhaps as some locals on Zakynthos have half-jokingly speculated, George fancied a fast food treat.
They point out that it is one of only a handful of Greek islands that boasts a McDonald's restaurant. What's more it is close to the shore in the town of Laganas on the south of the island.
'It is company policy not to divulge any information regarding our clients,' said the manager.
A mystery indeed. In truth, while Princess Diana was known to indulge William and Harry with burgers and KFC, it is something Kate has avoided.
Last week the Daily Mail revealed that a retired civil servant spotted some of the royal party – Kate, Charlotte and Louis – on their superyacht off the coast of Ithaca, a tiny island 25 minutes by ferry from Kefalonia.
Penelope Likoudi, 64, was swimming in secluded Mavrouna Bay when she came within 30 metres (100ft) of the yacht.
'Kate was standing on the top level with Charlotte and Louis,' she said. 'There was an older lady next to them, possibly Kate's mother, but I wasn't able to see her well.
'I literally shivered with excitement. I was shocked, I couldn't believe it. Now I wish I'd called out hello to them. But I didn't, I got starstruck and couldn't get the words out.
'There was no sign of William or George though.'
The Daily Mail has learned that not once during the sailing trip did the royals set foot on any of the islands.
It is thought to have been considered but quickly ruled out because of security concerns. Instead the royals made good use of a platform that transforms the stern hatch into a private beach area, where they swam and played on inflatables and paddleboards.

Market stalls, Michelin stars and more: my Mediterranean food photography journey
Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card (Representative 53.3% APR Variable, Annual fee applies, 18+, Subject to status, terms and conditions apply) For most of us, taking pictures of a gleaming paella, Vietnamese pho or a display of lavender macarons is a huge part of being on holiday. Looking at the shots on our phone screens brings back not just the memory of a taste, but the place, the time, a soundtrack of conversations and emotions of that particular moment, a sensory souvenir of that pastel de nata in Belém or the crispy, wavy filo on the delicious spanakopita – the classic Greek spinach and cheese pie – at my friend Orfeas's home on Cephalonia. As a travel writer, food underlies so much of what I write about since it opens up the culture and history of a destination through local ingredients, preparation and cultivation. The photos represent a nostalgic trip back to the people I met and their stories. My dream travel experience, essentially, is discovering gastronomic gems and taking shots of the food, tucked-away restaurants and fresh produce markets I encounter along the way. Jon Bryant: 'Food opens up the culture and history of a destination through local ingredients, preparation and cultivation'. Photographs: Rebecca Marshall/The Guardian And I'm not alone in my enthusiasm – food, particularly sampling the local cuisine, is an important consideration for many holidaymakers. And if you have a Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card you can gather points while savouring local dishes on your gastronomic adventures. Cardmembers earn two points for every £1 spent using the Card, which can then be redeemed at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy on future stays and dining, adding more new dinner experiences to your list. My favourite food destination is Genoa and the Ligurian coast in northern Italy. The city, renowned for its pesto and panissa, has an Eataly food hall in the revamped port with huge racks of tomato paste, farinata, pasta and cheese. Down on Via XX Settembre, one of the main thoroughfares in the centre of the city, is the Mercato Orientale, a fresh produce market with glistening fish and stacks of artichokes. A little farther down the boulevard is the Cremeria Gran Sasso ice-cream parlour, safekeeping its fior di latte and fruity gelato inside steel canisters. Sometimes you stumble across a restaurant on your way to somewhere else. In Genoa, I was heading to the Castello D'Albertis on a hill above the city and came across Osteria Carabàs on Vico Tana. The tiny restaurant serves the most amazing Ligurian cuisine, such as homemade trofie al pesto, tuna seared with a pistachio crust, and black spaghetti with seafood. Meanwhile, at the AC Hotel Genova, you can enjoy beautiful views as the sun goes down during dinner on the terrace. Enjoy top regional dining at the AC Hotel Bologna and AC Hotel Genova Head inland, travelling east to Bologna, for more photogenic local produce and aromatic snack bars. Stay at the AC Hotel Bologna, just a few blocks from the Trattoria di Via Serra – a great place to experience Bologna's superlative pasta dishes. Back at the hotel, perks include a free fitness centre and meeting rooms for business travellers, plus Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Cardmembers will quickly amass points during their stay. Cardmembers gain six points for every £1 spent at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy, which can go towards room upgrades and free stays for their next culinary trip. Across the border in France, Nice has developed into one of the country's foodie hotspots in the last five years, with a huge selection of traditional and fusion fare, and eight Michelin-starred restaurants. Nice also has a popular cooking school, Les Petits Farcis, which offers classes in English and tours of the excellent fresh produce market on the Cours Saleya. AC Hotel Marseille Prado Velodrome's on site restaurant offers Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Photograph: Marc Rabaux/Studio BaALT Marseille is another French city with a burgeoning food scene, renowned for its beloved bouillabaisse (Provençal fish soup). The AC Hotel Marseille Prado Velodrome, set alongside Olympique Marseille's futuristic football stadium, is perfectly placed to enjoy the city's growing gastronomic reputation, and also has a restaurant on site, Oh Massalia, offering Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Food and photography can offer a deep insight into a new city, and I often find myself walking miles during my trips, locating food markets, tracking down recommended restaurants, and finding the best places to sample the local delicacies. It's common to eat dinner later in France and Italy, than in the UK. For a more relaxed start in the morning, your Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card automatically gives you Silver Elite status at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy, making you eligible for Priority Late Checkout (subject to availability). You can upgrade to Gold Elite status with even more benefits when you spend £15,000 in a year as a Marriott Bonvoy® Amex® Cardmember. Photographs: Andrea Federici/Shutterstock; Factofoto/Alamy A joy for any photographer is always the fresh food markets with their piles of spices, cured sausages, cheeses, pastries, and fruit and vegetables. Having drifted through the aisles of many of France's most celebrated halles as well as the English market in Cork, Atarazanas in Málaga, Markthal in Rotterdam and Rome's Mercato di Testaccio, the most picturesque is Barcelona's Mercat de la Boqueria. Packed with locals and visitors, it's rowdy, colourful, majestic and, set in a cavernous hall from the 1830s, is enticingly photogenic. Wherever you end up, in a few months' time, you'll look back at your photos, linger over those mouth-watering piles of cheese and pastries, and start planning your next food-based adventure. The McDonald's that's one of the world's most beautiful with pretty outdoor courtyard and volcano views
GOLDEN arches and red seating, it's safe to say that most McDonald's generally have the same look - apart from this one. In Guatemala there's a restaurant of the fast food chain that looks nothing like you'd expect, and has been called the 'prettiest in the world'. 5 5 Win one of 8 incredible holidays to the Caribbean, Mexico and Greece by voting in The Sun's Travel Awards - enter to win here McDonald's Antigua, Guatemala has ditched the usual McDonald's design for a beautiful courtyard, and incredible views. The restaurant is in the central highlands of Guatemala - so if you look out you get views of the enormous Agua volcano. It has a large beautiful cobbled courtyard full of lush green trees, bright flower, and tables with sun umbrellas surrounding a huge fountain. Some videos on social media even show off live music outside. You don't forget it's a McDonald's, though, when you spot a huge Ronald McDonald statue on a bench. It has made an impression with visitors too, one wrote on Tripadvisor: "I guarantee you won't have seen a McDonald's like it." Another said: "The McDonald's here is amazing. Because of the city's historical preservation rules, you won't know that McDonald's is there unless you happen to walk by and look inside." A third commented: "You can eat some burgers or ice cream with a beautiful view of mountains." It even has a swing set integrated into its design which has appeared multiple times on Instagram and TikTok. McDonald's new menu taste test 5 5 McDonald's knows what they're doing, as there's one very quirky restaurant in New Zealand that's inside a decommissioned DC-3 plane. On the aircraft-turned fast-food restaurant in Taupō, New Zealand, you have to climb the original plane stairs that lead into the restaurant. Inside there's not a lot of room, but 20 diners can sit across 10 tables. There's also the cockpit, which has been preserved behind a glass wall. The outside of the plane has been repainted, and the previous airline name has been replaced with the McDonald's logo of course. The tail end of the plane features the classic McDonald's golden arches and outside, there's a playground for kids as well. Here are more of McDonald's restaurants around the world that are both beautiful and unusual, from former banks to UNESCO sites. Plus, inside the world's most tranquil McDonald's with Japanese-themed tea garden and serene river.

Princess Diana's niece Lady Amelia Spencer shares a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Santorini holiday with her twin sister Eliza after she got engaged
Lady Amelia Spencer provided a behind the scenes glimpse of the Santorini holiday she shared with twin Lady Eliza Spencer after her lookalike sister got engaged. Eliza, one of the late Princess Diana 's nieces, announced her engagement to Channing Millerd on Thursday. And, over the weekend, Amelia, posted a series of celebratory snaps aboard the yacht on which the 33-year-old twins and their respective beaus set sail in the Aegean Sea. Clad in a flowing, yellow kaftan, wedding planner and model Amelia embraced her newly-engaged sister, who was wearing a short, white summer dress. The two striking young women, who are the daughters of Charles Spencer and Victoria Aitken, looked nothing short of stunning with their long, blonde hair blowing in the wind. While model Eliza's pear-shaped diamond ring, believed to be worth £40,000, was not visible in the photos, the bride-to-be's wide smile revealed her joy at fiancé Channing Millerd's recent proposal. Channing, a businessman and tech entrepreneur who, like Eliza, grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, also appeared in the photos. In one image, Channing and Amelia's nutrition and fitness coach husband Greg Mallet were pictured together shirtless. Amelia and Greg, who married in South Africa earlier this year, also wrapped their arms around each other for another photo. Proud Amelia captioned the photos: 'Setting sail in Santorini @sunsetoiasailing. Celebrating our favourite two getting engaged'. The twins' older sister, Kitty, 34, added 'Heaven!' in the comments section while Eliza and Channing both said 'Best day'. Eliza originally revealed her engagement on Instagram alongside a selection of photographs from the proposal, which took place in Santorini. After almost a decade together, Channing popped the question to Eliza in a stunning setting during sunset on the Greek island. In the post, captioned 'Forever and ever', Eliza shared a sweet photograph of her lovingly looking at her fiancée. The snap showcased the model's new ring, which features a lavish pear-shaped diamond. A second photograph appeared to capture the moment Channing got down on one knee to the model during a romantic candlelit dinner overlooking the sea. Eliza, a first cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry, put on an elegant display for the special moment in a silk red halter-neck dress and brown sandals. Friends and family rushed to congratulate the couple in the comment section, including Eliza's twin sister, Lady Amelia Spencer, who wrote, 'The best news ever', before adding, 'I couldn't be happier for you both! 'The BEST NEWS IN THE WORLD. I love you both with all my heart! The perfect couple and dream engagement.' The model's elder sister, Lady Kitty Spencer, 34, also congratulated the couple on Instagram, writing, 'So happy for you and love you both very much @elizavspencer @channingmillerd.' Eliza and Channing first met at a dinner party in South Africa through the executive's brother, Greg Mallet, according to Hello. Talking to the publication, Eliza said, 'We have such a strong, loving and supportive relationship.' 'He truly is my best friend. We understand each other so well, and no matter what life brings, we're always there for one another.' Eliza added, 'I absolutely believe he's The One – our bond is built on so much trust, laughter and shared values.' The happy couple appeared to capture the heartwarming moment Channing got down on one knee on camera Eliza's twin sister Amelia took to the comment section to congratulate the couple, writing, 'The best news ever' Eliza and Amelia live in London's Fulham, around 15 minutes away from their elder sister, though they travel a lot, including back to South Africa, from where their partners hail. Following the union, the model will become a stepmother to Channing's son from a previous relationship, Nate, who the loving father has dubbed his 'perfect boy' on Instagram. In an interview with Hello in March, Eliza said that she likes the idea of a destination wedding, particularly in Italy.
